COWS!!

Our group stay was nothing short of 10/10! If I could give it more stars than 5, I absolutely would! The home was perfect for our group stay and the upstairs beds let us feel like kids at camp! Waking up to the cows was incredible! The cowboy pool and umbrella were perfect and we spent most of our Friday outside! Sarah was communicative when needed and a great host! We will be back :)

Hideaway peace

What a beautiful, peaceful place. We loved the house and property. It was close enough to go eat and enjoy town but yet secluded and peaceful. Really enjoyed the stay.

Quiet escape

We booked The Hideaway for our small group gathering over the 4th of July, and it was exactly the quiet escape we were hoping for. The house has such a warm, easygoing character, with great porches for sitting outside together and plenty of room to spread out. The history of the home and what it now offers guests is a wonderful story the owners should be proud of sharing. We spent our days lounging in the cowboy tank, a perfect way to cool off on a hot day, and our evenings unwinding and playing dominoes in the dining room. Schulenburg was the perfect distance to get away from the busy city. Would happily book again for another low-key getaway.

We’ve stayed in many Vrbo rentals over the years, and this was by far our best experience. From start to finish, everything was seamless. We had a unique situation, and our host was incredibly gracious, caring, and accommodating. Their kindness and willingness to work with us made all the difference. The house itself was comfortable, well-appointed, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. It’s the perfect place to unplug and enjoy the peace and quiet away from the noise of the city. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a restful retreat.

Peaceful and Beautiful

Our family took our 79 year old mom to see the painted churches. We all stayed at The Hideaway. It was so beautiful and peaceful. We all enjoyed spending time out on the porch just enjoying nature and family time. This place is so nice and clean and our host was very courteous and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

Great stay!!

Just got home from a lovely relaxing weekend. We stayed to go to a family wedding and wanted to stay with family members and not in a hotel. It was perfect for 7 adults to feel like we all had space and not on top of each other. We all got time to enjoy the outdoors and the back patio eating and drinking morning coffee. Great time had by all!!

We had such a wonderful stay here for our family Easter weekend. The house was incredibly clean, spacious, and thoughtfully set up for a comfortable stay. It was also very well stocked with everything we needed, which made things so easy traveling with kids. One of the highlights for us was how family-friendly the property is. There were toys provided, which kept the kids entertained, and the fenced yard was absolutely perfect for our toddlers to play safely and freely. The outdoor experience really made this place special. The kids had an amazing time fishing, and they were beyond excited to interact with the animals—playing with the donkey and chatting with the cows quickly became their favorite activities.Overall, this was a perfect spot for a relaxing and memorable family getaway. We would absolutely stay here again!

Happy at Hideaway

We enjoyed the Hideaway so much! It is a precious house. We took my mom and her sisters to see the Painted Churches. This house added joy to our experience. We loved reading the history on the house, enjoyed time visiting on the porches and saw wildlife (deer, fox). Our contact, Sarah, was very helpful and we appreciate her kindness and her time answering all my questions while planning our quick trip. Everything was great!

Beautiful, relaxing weekend getaway

We had a wonderful time at this beautifully restored home. Huge front and back porches with locally crafted rocking chairs and swings made the sunsets and sunrises comfortable and relaxing! We enjoyed seeing the cows and deer, wading in the cowboy pool, and watching the stars at night. Close to wineries, great food and the painted churches, this is a perfect spot! And our hosts thought of every detail—from games, to fans, to leaving fresh eggs for us (thank you)!! We will definitely come back!

If you are looking for a great place to spend time with family, especially outdoors, this is a wonderful pick. It is very stylish, clean and there is a lot to do on the property. Sipping coffee on the porch in the morning and listening to the cows and birds is idylic. I would say the one complaint is the arrangement of the bedrooms (one flows into the other), and the fact that the downstairs bedrooms are far from the bathroom which is right off the kitchen. If you have much older members in your party, this could present a problem. The upstairs bedroom/bathroom area is beautiful and well-appointed, and the beds are SO comfortable!! Overall, great place to enjoy time with family and close to wedding venues!

Excellent stay!

My family and I had the most relaxing time! The house is comfortable, beds are great, very clean and well equipped. The property is secluded, so great time to relax, barbecue, watch and hear the nature around us. Be aware of the spiders, scorpions and wasps which is expected when outside. The backyard is not fully fenced, so our dog ran away once but came right back. We will definitely be back to enjoy this beautiful property and views! Couldn’t ask for a better stay!

Homeowner's Response: "Hi Amanda, thank you for your 5-star review. While our yard is fully fenced, we want to ensure our guests know that small dogs may still be able to crawl out. Thanks again for your review. We hope to have the pleasure of hosting you again soon!"

The best stay ever!

We spent our Thanksgiving holidays at The Hideaway to be close to our family to celebrate in Flatonia. It was a magnificent stay and so peaceful and quiet. We loved reading about the property’s history and seeing the amazing and transformative renovation on this special home. The beds were comfy, the cleanliness was exceptional and the management, Sarah Kate, always responded immediately with helpful information. I cannot say enough to show how wonderful this property is. If you get a chance to stay here, you are very lucky. What a beautiful home! Thank you!!

Serenity

What I enjoyed the most was the quiet. Just to sit outside and listen to the crickets and occasional moos from the cows roaming around. Such a beautiful property, I hated having to leave! My only negative would be the uncomfortable chairs in the living room, but that would not deter me from visiting again. Loved reading about the history of the house, thanks for sharing your lovely place in the country.
