I booked what was advertised as a townhouse for 4 guests in Toronto during one of the city’s busiest weeks. What I received was a dirty, cramped two-bedroom apartment that looked nothing like the listing. The unit was covered in human hair and clearly had not been cleaned properly. Because all other hotels in the city were booked, we were forced to stay in the unit partially and pay over $2,500 out of pocket for another hotel to accommodate the rest of our team. To make matters worse, the host demanded a $500 e-transfer deposit off-platform, violating Expedia’s own terms of service — a deposit I have never received back. The host admitted the mistake on multiple phone calls and kept promising a resolution that never came. I have over seven calls documented.
