A disappointing hotel

A great location but that's about all it had going for it. No air conditioning and only a really old, ineffective ceiling fan meant the room was unbearably hot. The bin collectors come at 1am and are incredibly noisy. I wouldn't stay here again or recommend anyone else does.

right in the centre of old Nice

We couldn't have picked a better hotel for location, right opposite the garden with the dancing fountains and next to place Masina, close to everything and in the old town. We paid for one of the superior rooms , so glad we did the views were lovely from the French windows in a morning. The room was basic but spotless bedding spotless, cleaned daily with fresh towels, the bathroom was modern small but again spotless. The staff were available all the time for info etc. we had breakfast at the hotel on one morning for 6 euros each with was coffee,( refills were no problem) orange juice, croissant, pastries and baguette with butter and jams. Basic continental but more than adequate and really good value for money. Love Nice and would definately stay here again at this time of year. Not sure how we'd cope in the heat of summer as no air conditioning ( there was a fan) but wasn't s problem for October as although warm during the day we were out and by the time we returned it was cooler in the room as temps do drop on an evening in October. Overall a really pleasant stay in the heart of nice .

Old style hotel in corner building. Great location for Acropolis, Place Massena, and old city. 400m tops to beach. If you like a bit of character in a hotel this could be the one. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Just what I needed

Stayed here for 4 nights with a group of friends, it did exactly what was needed, a decent room with a bed and a good hot shower. Very close to the seafront, about a 5 minute walk. Bit noisy at night due to some weird delivery patterns and road cleaning but other than that, all OK! Cheap and cheerful. Staff were very helpful and accommodating too.

No room at the inn

Having booked this a week or so before and (I thought) pre-paid I was surprised to get a phone call the day before saying the hotel was fully booked and I would be sent to a different hotel on arrival. They managed this perfectly well on the night, although I had to walk to the substitute hotel with my luggage and the room wasn't very nice - through whether better or worse than the Acanthe I could not say. I paid the same rate - although I suspect it was more than the replacement hotel would have cost. All in all not a great experience.

Hmm

The hotel room was indeed very small and very basic as described, so no shock there. However, it was clean and suited us fine as we just needed a place to sleep. It was a 5 minute walk to the Promenade De Anglais which was perfect and the staff were accommodating too. We asked for a late check out as our flight was at 18.40, they kept hold of our luggage whilst we took in the last views of the this beautiful city and even allowed us to shower and get dressed in another very basic room. Overall, I can't complain. Thank you!

Very good of you want location

This hotel is all about its location. 1min to the Place Masséna! The rooms are clean but very basic - could do with a more modern touch: perhaps new bedding as it looks out of date but it's clean which is essential. The staff is very friendly. If you want to be close to the beach then this is a very good choice.

Clean & Friendly hotel

Good Points: Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, comfy beds, great location. Bad Points : Rooms are a little on the small side. A little noisy when people came in / left in the middle of the night, but this could have been due to my room being near the lift! : Overall, If you are looking for a nice hotel in a central location this is hotel is well worth a visit.

Cheap and Cheerful (albeit a little hot)

We were somewhat dubious about staying in the hotel having read poor reviews online but the hotel is fine and really good value for money. The location is amazing, very central though on a noisy street. The main flaw is that there is no air-con and nights were very hot and noisy with the fan on and windows open. I do think people seeking to do Nice on a budget could do a lot worse.

The perfect location

Hotel Acanthe is in a wonderfully central location in an attractive neighbourhood, just a few seconds away from the atmospheric Place Massena. A very old and typically French hotel, it could do with some modernising, but was still generally clean and well maintained. Our room was a good size and bed sheets and towels were changed daily. Staff were helpful and on duty at reception 24 hours a day. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and an outstanding location in this most beautiful of cities!

Typical French two star hotel, very good location,quiet room but bathroom very small

The staff are very friendly and helpful, when we arrived at the hotel at 10am, they already had a room for us and explained the limitations of the bathroom, which was OK if you just want a shower. We asked if there was a room with a bath and they had one but it was book for the next two days, so we reserved it, on the third day we looked at the room which was at the rear, but it was too noisey, so we asked if we could return to our original room, which they didn't mind. We've stayed in the hotel before and would recommend a room in the front as the rear bedrooms suffer from noise coming from the early morning refuse collection, the breakfast is basic but what do you expect for the price. The location is very good for everything is Nice.

Brilliant location

Despite the poor ratings I have given for the general state of the hotel, cleanliness of the room (no clean towels and sink remained unwashed during our stay) and the attitude of some of the reception staff as long as you have enough fortitude to cope with these the location of the hotel couldn't have been better. Within easy walking distance of all areas of interest, beach, old town, transport and lots and lots of shops..! Hence the overall rating.

I can't think of anything positive to say about this hotel except for its location. This hotel is dirty, the rooms & bathrooms are tiny, and the hotel is noisy inside. Good luck if you want to sleep.

Terrible

Centrally located for charming old town and for conference facilities. The hotel staff were helpful and pleasant; unfortunately, this was one of the dirtiest and noisiest hotels I have ever stayed in. Was alone on business and even though this was 1 star hotel and I was just looking for a bed for three nights. I would however have liked a clean and quiet room. If staying on 1st floor, reception TV is left on full volume until midnight and noise from corridors throughout the night was unacceptable.Will not be back!

the rooms are very basic - not unlike a university dorm room. it was clean on arrival but was not cleaned on one day that i was there. it is in a very good location but is very noisy through the night. there is double glazing but no fan or air con so if you are facing the street it would be too hot or too noisy in the summer months. the staff were polite and helpful though. s

The hotel staff were very friendly and able to speka multiple languages. However one thing put me off using this hotel again. The first room we were given smelt like someone had been smoking in it just prior to our arrival. I asked for another room and was given one which was just about bearable (complete with a grubby looking carpet). This was despite my booking request for a non-smoking room. I understand that requests can not always be met but a smoke free room is a right that should be afforded to any guest that requests it.

Location ottima. In pieno centro ma tranquillo. Personale cortese, gradevole sempre disponibile a tutte le ore. Solo il bagno un po' piccolo in assoluto ma aveva comunque tutto il necessario e adeguato allo standard francese due stelle. nessun altro problema particolare. Sicuramente da consigliare.
