Nice weekend stay, family of 6 adults

We stayed for 4 days and it was nice, we never struggled to find a place to sunbathe, never took too long to find a table at the buffets, and we liked the food and the drinks. The only inconvenience is the check in and check out process, took a lot of time and was a very cumbersome.

Solo and regular senior traveller to P.V.

As a regular traveller to P.V. to visit friends I find Canto Del sol very convenient. It's within walking distance to town or the bus stops just round the corner. The hotel itself is very clean, rooms cleaned daily by very pleasant staff. The food could be better. The breakfast is probably the best meal of the day and cannot be faulted. There are 3 special restaurants where you make a reservation in advance and these 3 provide very nicely presented good food! The evening shows are good but if you go in the low season like I did once, then they were pretty poor. All in all I find the Canto Del Sol a hotel that I would return to and one that I would recommend to anyone. You are very well looked after there !

Beautiful Hotel Friendly Staff Beautiful Beach...

My experience at the Canto Del Sol Plaza.... Was the best...... The staff made it a pleasant experience.... The variety of Food excellent.... The entertainment staff work very very hard and their hard work pays off for them and the people that stay in the hotel...... As for the bar staff and the waiters all very friendly and hard working.... The cleaning staff cleaned the room everyday if required... if you did not want your room cleaned they would always make sure you had clean towels and anything else you required..... Again very very hard working staff...

When my family and I arrived for 7 nights at the main hotel, they put us in a run down Vella Vallarta side which was terrible and falling apart. I had to pay extra money for the next 6 nights to be upgraded to stay in Canto Puerto Vallarta main building in adjoining rooms. The food at the buffet was awful and we were in shock about the horrible condition of this aging property.

Hard to rate the property. Overall it had normal amenities. Our room was a nightmare though, and they didn't do anything to make it right. Toilet off main bedroom had "deposits" from a former guest in it when we checked in. Asked them to fix 3 times. Never did. Said I wanted a new room and was told I had to speak to a manager. Not there. Smelled like sewer. Day 4, something brown leaking on kitchen floor. I cleaned it up, wrote a note for the housekeeping staff to have someone contact me. Nothing. Sent an email to Canto Del Sol and was told it was the marketing group and they'd have someone contact me from the hotel. Nothing. Asked the front desk for a free night or a discount and was told I had to talk to the manager - Elmer. After trying to get him to contact me multiple ways with no success, I found him at the service desk. He avoided me for over 24 hours. Said since I was asking for a free night he knew he couldn't help me so he didn't bother. I was immensely patient with this hotel and very respectful with Elmer even after all that. He refused to do anything and said he only had a report of one complaint from me, but would have given me a different room had I asked. It's not the customer's fault that his staff didn't pass anything on. Elmer needs some classes in customer service. I know things happen, but they handled it very poorly. Room also had pigeon poop all over balcony, multiple lamps/lights didn't turn on... Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The hotel is all inclusive. The evening meals were very good. We were unable to book one restaurant the entire time we were there unfortunately. Lunches were buffet or, quick foods by the pool occasionally offering fresh Tex Mex by the pool overlooking the ocean. The ocean was rocky to get into. This hotel didn't have a grand entrance when driving in like other all inclusive we have stayed at but authentic Mexican feel. the downtown and Malacon was a fun venture morning for us. We really liked all the pool activities they offered. It would have been fun to have water Volleyball twice a day at the pool vs at the beach. The nighttime entertainment started at 9 vs 10 like some so that was nice too. The rooms are al ittle smaller especially the bathroom. If you like conditioner for your hair be sure to bring your own. It is a one step shampoo they give & we didn't see any at the stores we stopped by at. We had brought our own but looked for a future stay if would need for our family. They have tennis courts and provide rackets. I play pickleball & brought our own paddles but they didn't have the lines up for it. The courts were surprisingly busy. I did suggest they put in lines for pickleball on the tennis courts. Overall we had a very enjoyable time & will go back.

The canto del sol put us in rooms across the street and far removed from the main building. Food was average, although staff tried hard. The straw that broke the camel's back was the loss of the two red clay courts that was the distinguishing feature of this once proud facility. I won't be back!

We booked 2 mountain rooms for 2 queen beds and received an "upgrade" to the Luxury area due to renovations. Only one king bed and no sleep spot for my kid. A cot was brought in which blocked the balcony door and left no space. The room was dingy, had a hole in the wall for ventilation directly into the janitorial closet and the shower didn't drain. The second room was very different - it had a pull out couch, seating and more welcoming. Main pool area was crowded, seating with view of the pool for kids was challenging as seats were claimed very early. There was always music and activities through the afternoon. Luxury pool area was much quieter and less busy - there is no bar nearby just an employee that takes drink/food orders for the afternoon. In 5 days, we were given 3 restaurant meals. When booking, most were full for the week and only late times left. The food was very good at them. Service at Akita took 2 hours. Buffet food was ok, and very crowded. They need changes to how the line flows as the grill slowed it down. We had to wait in long lines for most meals. Upstairs my family went for ice cream, while being served the staff was told to throw them out, and we were to come back after 1 - this was at 12:45. Location is fairly short taxi rides from the airport and Puerto Magico. Located on the beach. There are shops across the street. Security was at all entrances. Facilities were clean. We enjoyed our family time but feel the resort has room for improvement.

This was our 5th time staying at Canto Del Sol as we used to love the food, atmosphere & friendly staff. However this time, we did not encounter any of these. Our flight came in the morning. So we had to pay 560 MXN for our wristbands. Of which we found 3 other couples that came in prior to us & were no charged. After 8 hours of waiting on a room, they placed us in Villa Vallarta, which is across the street, so we had about a 10 minute walk to food & the beach. There were several inconsistencies, which was frustrating. One day they would let men into the buffet with no sleeves & the next, they would turn them away. We opted not to have housekeeping come into our room as we heard of others who had items missing, which also was frustrating. The service at our Mexican al a carte was non existent. We ended up walking out before we got our full meal. So sadly, we will be going elsewhere next vacation.

A conservative family oriented resort. I reserved a luxury suite beach section but there is no view to the beach I was deceived by this. Once I bypass my ocean view everything was fantastic! All inclusive including room service in the luxury section. This was our first time getting “all inclusive” the meals at the specialty restaurants were delicious. You have to make a reservation to all once you arrived otherwise you will not enjoy them. The common areas are clean and the staff very friendly. Elmer did an excellent job trying to accommodate our requests and answering all questions. El Canto del Sol has events every night, good shows and they even have a church here! Daily mass and a place to pray. Sheraton was sold out and El Canto came out as a suggestion by Expedia.. didn’t disappoint. Price range was in line with what we used to pay at the Sheraton or Westin. Besides the view, El Canto is a nice choice because you get unlimited drinks and meals. Be prepared with cash for taxis and tips. Enjoy Puerto Vallarta!
