Hotel in a good location

The large piazza in front of the hotel is a welcome green space to relax and at night the area was peaceful, no traffic noise. A 10 minute walk gets you to St Lorenzo and the Central Market. Lots of cafes, restaurant and bars to choose from.

Hotel review

The hotel was comfortable and within a short walking distance of the centre. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was continental and very good .the only downside was there were no facilities in the room or in the hotel to make a hot drink.something they should consider..that apart I would recommend this hotel.

Good location, clean, staff are so friendly

The staff were so friendly and couldn't do more for me! The hotel, although a bit dated and could do with some work, was clean and well presented. Also it was only a short walk from the main train station and within walking distance to the main tourist attractions.

It was a good basic hotel, would have been better to ha e had tea and coffee making facilities in room, clean , good breakfast although too much sweet cakes and processed ham and cheese for my personal taste , but good alternatives provided, Hotel in a good location to explore Florence, Staff helpful, room had high windows , about 5ft , number 206, so couldn't look out of windows on my level , would recomme d this Hotel , good value for money, budget level, clean and comfortable ..

Good location

I experienced problems with check in. We had to spend our first night in another nearby hotel, although I booked hotel stay nearly 3 months earlier. Breakfast is very, very limited choice and similar hotels offer better value. On the plus side, location is very good, 10 min to Train station and all main attractions. Beds are extra comfy and importantly very good sound proofing!

average hotel with good location

The WiFi only worked once. You get the WiFi from the nearby hotel stronger then the Malaspina network. On arrival they tried to squeeze me in a single room even tho I booked a double with single occupancy. So be aware they try to make the most of you for their benefit. Apart from that breakfast is basic but fine and the location was pretty fine. Florence is not that big so in 10 min you are in the main square.

Can't fault the location

A 10 minute walk to the Duomo and train/bus Termini so an ideal location, and quiet. Hotel was a little disappointing having read reviews - Water pressure not good so shower poor and water barely warm. Fridge and air con could have been better bearing in mind 32 degree temperature. Free Wifi but no signal at all. Cold buffet Breakfast small choice but ok met my needs and great Cappucino !

Great location

Nice clean hotel situated Close to the centre of Florence, a short walk to the train station, central market and the duomo. Hotel was clean and the staff helpful without being overly chatty. The breakfast was ok however there was no fruit available and a rather abrupt sign telling visitors that no food was to be taken away. Asking for a cup of coffee or hot water to make tea in the evening was a no go as it meant opening the kitchen up, I thought that was what hotels did, served the customers. WUlf I go back, probably not!

Good central hotel in Florence.

The Malaspina was exactly what we were looking for, for our long weekend. Very central, meant we could walk to most of the sights, restaurants and shops. The facilities were probably a bit better than expected - good room, quiet, wifi, and an excellent continental breakfast. Staff were helpful, and other than a 3.50 Euro local tax per night - no surprises at checkout. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

All fine at the Malaspina and Donatello hotels

When I arrived I was informed that due to a plumbing problem I would spend the first two nights in the hotel next door which was the Donatello. The hotel Donatello was fine and met expectations. The transfer to the Malaspina after two days went smoothly. The room allocated by the Malaspina met expectations of a three star room, plus the breakfast also met expectations. Just to add to the points above whilst there was not tea making facilities in the room coffee was provided by the hotel bar without further charge plus air conditioning was not required given the time of year. Overall the two rooms were of a three star standard and my stay was enjoyable.

Disappointing. You get what you pay for.

Positives. Great quiet location close to the station and all the sites. Staff on the whole OK. Breakfast good. Cheap. Not So Positives. Very tired hotel in all ways. Not the cleanest. Air conditioning not working in any of the rooms. Mosquito city so you can't open the windows. Fridge not nearly clean enough to consider using. To their credit they supplied an electric mosquito killer and offered to store stuff in their fridge but couldn't supply fans. Would pay more and stay elsewhere next time though.

Basic but all you need

Throughly enjoyed our stay of 4 nights here. Room was clean, had a good view. Also maid service was twice. Fridge always stocked & air con worked (not very strong but it wasn't always needed) Staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was pleasant, could do with more variation but overall it was fine. Great location for us & restaurants were good enough that were local to it.

Barely working Air Con - Staff didn't care

It was well over 30 degrees in the day, so we hoped to come back to a cool bedroom. You could tell the aircon was on by the horrendous sounds it was making as it coughed warm, smelly air into our room. We asked about twice a day for something to be done - borrow a fan, get it fixed, move rooms - nothing was done. They continued to fob us off with lies about it being fixed soon. No sleep for three night. Not happy guests. Fortunately Italian coffee is good.

The hotel was in a good location and rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately there were a few aspects that let the hotel down. Firstly the air conditioning in our room was not adequate and when we raised this with reception they said that it was because it was too hot outside, however I don't think this was true because the hotel lobby was cool and so were all other shops and restaurants we visited in Florence. When having breakfast one morning the air conditioning unit dripped onto our table (fortunately not into our cereal!). This was one of a number of queries that we discussed with hotel staff and each time we were surprised by their lack of interest, they couldn't be bothered to look up from whet they were reading. They gave us incorrect answers or fobbed us off, making it seem that our question wasn't worthy of their time (they didn't replenish our shampoo/shower gel throughout the stay and we had to request it each time it ran out). The level of customer service was the worst we have received from a hotel. If you are lucky enough to have few interactions with the staff when staying here then the hotel is good value and well located but the attitude of the staff really lets it down.

clean, comfy and streets from main attractions

The hotel was as expected, clean, comfy and quiet on a budget, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful with good English skills.. Breakfast was limited in choice and repeated daily but all still fair for the cost.. And 2/3 streets away from the main city attractions all reachable by foot.
