The Tulip House is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is the enchanting legacy of Jill Cooley, ready to amaze lovers of fantasy, of art, of whimsy. It is a home only the soul of a gypsy could envision and create. Susan Cooley is owner and 'curator' of this art gallery, and I invite you to become immersed in the extraordinary craftsmanship, the magical integration of carved wood, tile work that looks like quilting, and wonderful art collected for for decades, resulting in this wonderful and cozy home. It is a home of fairy tales and storybooks, part "Little House on the Prairie," part South Sea Island, infused with a Hobbit House and a gypsy caravan. It is located in Bass Lake, which offers fishing, jet skiing, shopping, hiking, or simply relaxing. 20 minutes from Yosemite's South Entrance. Close to the Sugar Pine Railroad. Near vineyards, museums, and art galleries. 10 minutes from Oakhurst and 1 hour from Fresno Intl Airport. The home is such a great fusion of styles, of artisans talents, with nods to artist Piet Mondrian, tile work of the Alhambra in Spain, with a mix of the San Francisco Victorians, with carved doors and archways evoking Bali, and with the home spun quilting in both bedding and in tile and wood combinations. There are 2 gas fireplace/stoves, a huge well stocked kitchen. The master bedroom has a king size bed and bathroom with a huge shower. In the living room, there is a purple velvet sofa bed that has an enhanced 10" combination foam and air mattress, and the African bathroom. The second bedroom is the Loft over the garage, which sleeps 3-5 people, and has a bathroom, TV, table and chairs, and 2 recliners. The third bedroom called the Corner Pocket, has a queen bed and a half bath. There is a laundry area. Off the kitchen is a porch for lounging or for dining, and on one side, an area to barbeque.
There is WiFi, cable TV, and high speed internet. There is a phone for 911.
Pets are possibly accepted, and must be disclosed to the owner. It is a pet friendly house, but not one for dogs that are not house broken, or are chewers of carpets, table legs, or decks. Yep, please, if your animal has any of these bad habits, don't bring them.
Of course, the Tulip House is smoke free.

What an amazing property. We spent the first few hours just checking out the house. So much love and attention was put in to this property. Even by the end of our stay we were finding fun and intersting new things around the house. We love staying aeoujd Bass lake due to the proximity to Yosemite and spend the warmer afternoons at the lake. Highly recommend!
Susan is a wonderful host. She provides all the information you need to have great time at the Tulip house. When I asked if there was a leaf available for the kitchen table she called her housekeeper and asked her to look in the garage and bring it to us! Definitely goes above and beyond to make your stay great.
Our family absolutely loved our stay at the Tulip House. The house was truly a treasure with all its amazing art and decor. The house was very clean, comfortable, well-stocked with kitchen supplies, and even provided toys and activities for the kids. Susan was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay. We have been traveling to Bass Lake for decades and this will stand out as a truly memorable vacation.
We had a marvelous Ladies Retreat. This home was more than we had expected. It was peaceful, serene and just what we needed to escape for our busy lives. The art works in this place left you in awe of the creativity that went into it. Surely it was a well loved and treasured place. Thanks for sharing with us
Where do I start? The host was very quick to get back to me instantly on any question I had.Our stay was so amazing my 7-year-old granddaughter cried her eyes out when she had to leave the house. So many unique details on the home where to even begin! I probably would start with all the beautiful tile work, knowing everything had a story behind it. Attention to details everywhere.. Conveniently located near to shopping, the lake, walking paths and nature. Lovely neighborhood.. can’t wait to return
We loved our stay - very close to our family reunion at Recreation Point. My 3 girls loved having their own space to relax in the loft, and we all enjoyed exploring the art and architecture throughout the home. Hope to come again!
This place is AMAZING! Part museum, part art, all beautiful!! This house can ONLY be experienced. IF you are headed to Yosemite, this place is AMAZING!! My wife and I could have sat hwre ALL day, but my kids wanted to explore. Seriously, this place is a one of a kind stay!!
We enjoyed this property!! Very comfortable house!!
Near Bass Lake and Oakhurst. Very centrally located for us visit!!
Never did find the butter dish lid!!
You will be hard pushed to find another house as charming, whimsical, exciting, imaginative and awe inspiring at the Tulip House. We stayed with our grandchildren and they absolutely loved everything and every detail. we were there for 3 nights and still found new things as we were leaving. 100% recommend this house for anyone to explore and wonder at the work that has gone into every single aspect of it. A complete delight
Rented this home for 6 adults for 3 nights. It was in a perfect location...easy to get in and out of and close to everything that we wanted to do. The home was exactly as described, and we had a seamless check in. My only issue, was that the WIFI didn't seem strong enough (This was a working vacation for me) and I kept getting booted out of my system I have to log into for work.Lessson learned: don't work while on vacation! High recommend this home for your upcoming vacation!
The house is really cool. The attention to detail in the decor is remarkable. My only complaint is about the location being 12 miles from the South Entrance from Yosemite which may be accurate but it leaves you 50 miles from Yosemite Valley which is most peoples destination. I did not know that so I consider the location description misleading.
Very Beautiful and Comfy house right next to Bass lake
The house is so unique and beautiful with colorful indoors and beautiful decorations. Rooms are nice with comfy beds and pillows. The bathrooms were nice and very clean. The kitchen area is open and huge. The patio also is large with comfortable furniture. 10 minutes walk to Bass lake.
The host, Susan was very nice and accommodating and gave very good detailed information about the house.
We all love our stay here. Thanks!
We had another larger house rented nearby and all meals were held there. At first the people in this house were disappointed they were not in the main house, but when they saw Susan’s house, they didn’t mind at all. They loved it and in fact one day the whole group had a picnic lunch here just so everyone could see it. Susan is a terrific host. Thank you!
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We had SO much fun cooking, playing games and just looking at all of the beautiful art. The beds were so cozy as well. Our only issue was that the neighbors (across 222) had the loudest parties two nights in a row until after 1:00 AM that kept our house up...but we know that is not your fault! I just wanted to give you a heads up if it's another VRBO. Thanks again!

Very stressful! We were afraid to damage anything in the house. We didn't feel comfortable in any of the rooms.

I of course disagree with the above comments. The reviews from a huge percentage of guests is that this house is magical and comfortable! The person had arrived at the house predisposed to dislike due to the fact that I forced her to acknowledge my 9 various messages and updates over 11 months on problem’s plaguing the Yosemite area. My Ring videos at the front door show that the lady and her son only left the house 2 hours per day, and for an entire evening event they attended. 4 nights. I was forced to send texts and emails, which were also mostly ignored to give pertinent info like lockbox code and garbage pick up tips. Who would spend 18-20 hours per day in a home they claim was uncomfortable? Reader, look at the photos of this magical, comfortable, and for some, transformative place.
The Tulip House is perhaps the best VRBO property we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. The host is an amazing curator of an extraordinary home she inherited from her sister, an artist who created the space over a large part of her life. We were particularly enthralled by the stunning tile work throughout the home. Every wall is adorned with beautiful art work. All the doors and trim are custom made with incredible carved wood. It was immaculate and most, if not all, the small and major appliances looked new. The host even gave us an intriguing riddle to solve. We were asked if we could find a part of a broken ceramic butter dish that her sister had incorporated into the structure of the home. It turned into a fun treasure hunt of sorts. It actually helped us appreciate some detail in the house that we may have otherwise overlooked. Anyone staying in this house will have a time to remember!
It's an experience, not a vacation rental. If you appreciate art and history, this is the house. I was beyond blown away, it's much better than I can describe or express. You will not be sorry.
Very unique property filled with artistic flair. Eclectic decor which is Mary Englebreit mixed with global touches - lots to look at. Rooms were clean and well stocked. House is close to the Pines where we rented a pontoon boat, wakeboard boat and jet skis. Had lunch at Miller Landing and Marina Grill, which were both good. Enjoyed our stay!
So big and so beautiful. Saw something different every day. I have and never will stay in any place like it. Yet it’s so comfortable and welcoming. My favorite thing are the doors. Each one different. The whole place is so unique but still safe, fun and close enough to Yosemite. Bass lake is also great for swimming and food
Fairy tale home, uniquely crafted by a local artist.
Cool, amazing, work of art home. Something unique in every nook and cranny. Great location on Bass Lake and close to Oakhurst. Clean, comfortable, well appointed and the most fantastic bathrooms I’ve ever had at a VRBO. We loved our stay here.

I am a retired flight attendant. I love hosting the Tulip House! My late sister created this most whimsical delight, and I decided it should be available for everyone. I am the curator and love the delight and transformation guests experience.
