Very interesting property, one of the top three "most unique" I have stayed at. Very clean, well stocked kitchen, also lots of water, coffee pods, and snacks available. The St Elmo location was very convenient to hikes, walk to restaurants, greenway path, and more. The uniqueness comes form the age of the property, reminded me very much of my grandmother's home built in the 1900's with a bit of modern thrown in.
My family and I had a terrific time visiting Chattanooga. Staying at Steve and Sharman‘s lovely home was a big part of our terrific experience. We were at the foot of Lookout Mountain and enjoyed all that the Saint Elmo area had to offer.
This place was such an unassuming gem. And we will definitely be coming back - phenomenal property and you don’t even realize how big it is until you get inside. The property managers were terrific to work with - very much a lovely family feeling yet still gave us the privacy we needed for our girls weekend. Excellent location, and awesome amenities. Thank you for a great trip!

Sherman and Steve are very friendly and the space beautifully done. Also can't beat the location!
We had a wonderful time while staying here. We didn't cook, but easily could have done a full meal in the kitchen. The rooms were nice and the location was perfect for a quick hike to ruby falls or in to town for dinner. We would stay here again, when in town!

Thanks so much for your review! We are so glad you could stay with us. Please come again anytime. Yes, we have lots of great hiking opportunities within 1 to 2 miles. Plus the Riverwalk is less than a mile from our house! Thanks, again, for your review.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bear House in historic St. Elmo. It was rejuvenating to be back in the mountains. Only challenge was the stairs for for two 80+ year olds
The unit was walking distance to a few restaurants and shops, and close to Ruby Falls and Rock City. We really enjoyed sitting outside in the garden areas. Beautiful property!

The Bear House was the perfect location for a relaxing family trip. Conveniently located with easy parking access made getting out about to see the city. We had some hiccups with the TVs working but Steve & Sharman were very responsive.

Thanks for choosing to stay with us here at The Bear House. Yes, we do have a great location for a trip to Chattanooga to be sure! Yes we had major storms come through which knocked out cable on a couple of the TVs, but we are happy to have a cable provider that responds promptly. Please come again anytime.
Was a nice stay while we were just visiting for a couple days. The rooms were spacious and there was two living rooms also. The kitchen was newly done and worked great for our stay. There was rather strap stairs to our loft upstairs, just as a FYI. I would recommend and would stay again.
We loved staying here!! The apartment was adorable and the property was beautiful. We were greeted at check-in by the owner who gave us a tour and told us all the history of the property as well. So many nice touches in our rental as well. We enjoyed our stay so much!!
I could not have been more satisfied with my apartment at the Bear House! The hosts were pleasant, very accommodating and understand quality! Full of charm and class. I will stay here again no question about it!

Loved all the small, additional touches. Great stay!!!
My son and i came to Chattanooga to explore the area and do some climbing. The house we stayed in was so nice and very clean and quiet, perfect for 2 adults needing segregate rooms and close to lots of things.

About the host
Hosted by Steve and Sharman Sherfey
The Bear House is a beautifully restored 6,900 square foot house built in 1890. We have lived here for 25 years, raising our four children and enjoying this small community (St Elmo) within the city. Our long-term plan has been to share this special property as a B&B/Short Term Rental when we retired.
We opened as The Bear House in March of 2017. It has been a truly special year and brought great joy sharing The Bear House and meeting so many wonderful guests.
Steve and I live on the 1st floor of the house, which is completely separate from the 2nd story listings as well as the basement/lower level listing. In addition, we have the Carriage House with 2 listings. We are proud of The Bear House and think you will have a wonderful stay!
