The Cardinal Cottage is a comfortable, roomy, 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage located in a small, upscale established development. Our guest cottage is just 10 minutes from downtown Hendersonville and the Asheville Airport. The cottage is located 1/4 mile from a main two lane highway. Our paved dead end private road hosts only 9 homes. The cottage is situated on our 10 acre property and through dense woods in a private setting.
The Cardinal is nestled in a forest of mature pines and oaks. The land surrounding the Cardinal is level and there are only three steps from the driveway into the cottage. The cottage is surrounded by large wooded tracts, creating a very quiet relaxing and private setting. The location is perfect for all your sightseeing adventures or relaxing on the porch. The cottage is close to Hendersonville and Mills River but a retreat all its own.

The Cardinal is nicely decorated and has a fully equipped and stocked kitchen. A large screened-in porch is accessed through double French doors off the living room. Enjoy relaxing on the porch while white squirrels scamper and birds land on the feeders. An occasional flock of turkeys or a deer might wander by. The porch boasts an old-fashioned wooden swing, 4- person dining table and 2 comfortable reading chairs.The living room is spacious with comfortable furniture and a game table for cards or computer work. There are 2 Smart HD tvs. The one in the living room is 4K with a DVR. The other Smart TV is in the twin bedroom. One bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two twin beds. The twins can be converted to a king for 3 weeks stays or longer. Both have large dressers and double-deep closet space. The bathroom offers a comfort height commode, 2 grab bars and a hand -held shower wand.

A high efficiency central air and heating system keeps you comfortable Year round. A washer- dryer is located in the garage which is also heated and air conditioned.
An attractive stone lined paved road leads you through the woods to the cottage. The yard is sunny and flat for you to enjoy a game of bocce, crochet or throwing a frisbee. A large gas grill and grilling utensils are available for cookouts.
Come relax and enjoy all the CC and the area has to offer.

Wonderful Get Away

Clean and cozy, surrounded by nature but close to all the great shops and restaurants in the area. Everything is there that you need for a comfortable stay, from cooking to sleeping. Hosts took care of us and made the stay special, it felt like we were hosted by family.

Perfect weekend getaway

I can’t even put into words how perfect this little cc cottage was, had everything we needed, very cozy and felt like you were far away from the hustle and bustle yet we were close to be able to shop. Our Host Lonnie was so kind and very helpful letting us know if we needed anything. I know when we go back to Hendersonville if this place is available this will be where we’re staying.

Wonderful stay again!

We just returned from our 4th stay at the Cardinal Cottage. Mrs. Lonnie and Mr. David are fantastic hosts. They make us feel very welcome and at home. This cottage is in a great location - a short, easy drive to downtown Hendersonville and is very private. The screen porch provides a great place to watch all the birds that come to enjoy the feeders. We look forward to our next visit.

Our stay at the Cardinal Cottage was very enjoyable and relaxing; just what we were looking for when we decided to visit from Florida for a short week. Lonnie was very responsive before and during our stay. She provided a detailed introduction to the house and property and offered us recommendations to local attractions. My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at this cozy home! It’s just minutes away from Hendersonville but in a private setting surrounded by trees. Three week stay

My wife and I stayed at the Cardinal Cottage last September for four nights so when we decided to spend three weeks in the Hendersonville area this summer, we had Cardinal Cottage at the top of the list. We love the large screen porch, the warmth of the house with the real pine paneling, the deer which we saw about every other day and the quiet location. The Cardinal Cottage will be at the top of our list next summer if we decide to return to the Hendersonville/Asheville area.

Wonderful weekend!

We enjoyed another wonderful stay at this cozy cottage. The hosts are very kind, cottage is clean, well equipped and the location is perfect for visiting Hendersonville, Brevard or nearby waterfalls and hiking trails. The back porch is a great place for birdwatching. We especially enjoyed seeing the beautiful white squirrel frolic in the trees! This was our second stay and we’re already planning our next one.

We had a lovely, peaceful stay at Cardinal Cottage. Lonnie met us when we arrived and gave us a thorough intro to the house and advice for the area. Great Location in the Woods

The cottage is well located to visit the area attractions and only about 5 miles from downtown Hendersonville. The cottage is clean , private and very well equipped . The owners are available and helpful in answering all your questions. So many birds came to the feeders. We saw at least 3 white squirrels and 3 deer grazing in an open area. We were happy we booked the cottage. Will definitely return.

Charming, secluded yet close to everything!

Nestled in the heart of apple country this cottage is an oasis of serenity. My husband and I were hoping for a vacation property with a sense of privacy, yet close to all this lovely area has to offer, and we did indeed find it! The cottage itself is most comfortable with everything needed at your fingertips. I could have spent the entire time on the porch surrounded by the trees watching the white squirrels and the birds at the feeder. Perfect little cottage!

After many trips to the mountains, we've come to love the Hendersonville/Mills River area. We chose this property because of its proximity to both. Lonnie greeted us when we arrived and gave us a thorough tour. She may be the kindest person you'll ever meet. The kitchen is fully stocked, the beds are very comfortable, and that porch...oh my! We watched birds at breakfast and lunch on the porch and finished our nights there relaxing in the cool mountain air. We visit the mountains regularly and I would absolutely rent this property again. It's secluded and cozy...a perfect little cottage.

We grew up in Ohio- Cleveland Cincy and Lima. We moved to WNC after graduating from Ohio State.. David worked at DuPont in Brevard until retiring in 2000 when the Brevard location closed. Now the property is the DuPont State Forest.
Lonnie taught Middle School in Henderson County.. She's also a Carolina Dahlia Society member. When the dahlias and other garden flowers are blooming, you will often find a bouquet at your back door to enjoy.
After visiting us many times, our parents also fell in love with Hendersonville. They chose this area for their retirement location. After living in the area for 50 years we are still in love with the mountains and our woods.Just a little slice of heaven on Earth.

Why they chose this property

Rugby Community
We knew we wanted to be in the woods on acreage yet close to town. We searched for a year and finally located this beautiful piece of property in 1982. The woods are filled with native plants-azaleas mountain laurel, ferns, trilliums, rhododendrons and towering hardwoods. Originally our entire community of 9 homes was a single large estate. It sadly burned down in the 30's giving rise to a cottage debpvelopent.There are 3 original cottage homes dotting our private road. The Cardinal Cottage is one of them.. They were built for the Charlestonians to escape the summertime heat. After WWII this idea was abandoned . The remaining acreage was sold to individuals to build their custom homes. There are only 9 homes on our private road. We own 2 of them. Our road is lined with stones reminiscent of the original estate and bygone era. We fell in love with the property and we're sure you will also. Relax, unwind and step back in time.

Location location location! The property is secluded yet convenient to Hendersonville. The cottage adjoins our 10 wooded acres and is situated on its owns 1.5 acres. The dense woods offer privacy and tranquility. We are less than 5 miles from downtown.and 10 mins. from the Asheville Airport.
