The house is located in a secluded cul de sac just 1.25 miles from Westport town centre, one of Ireland's most beautiful and popular coastal towns, lively throughout the year with music, art and food festivals, sporting events, restaurants, bars and nightlife to enjoy year round.
Westport is based along the Wild Atlantic way on the shores of Clew Bay in Co. Mayo, offering a plethora of outdoor and cultural activities for all ages to enjoy.
Westport has been voted the ‘Best Place to Live’ in Ireland by The Irish Times. It's a designated Heritage Town and Clew Bay is said to have a island for every day of the year. It's an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the town itself is just 1km from the coast. In and around the town, is the Greenway, which uses disused railway to create peaceful and safe pathways for walking, cycling, sightseeing and enjoying the local scenery.
The English novelist, William Makepeace Thackeray, visited Westport and wrote of the town:
"The most beautiful view I ever saw in the world. It forms an event in one's life to have seen that place so beautiful that is it, and so unlike other beauties that I know of. Were such beauties lying on English shores it would be a world's wonder perhaps, if it were on the Mediterranean or Baltic, English travellers would flock to it by hundreds, why not come and see it in Ireland!"
As one of Ireland's three planned towns, Westport boasts a huge array of activities and amenities for tourists and visitors all year round, and has a large selection of restaurants, pubs and nightlife to explore.
A consistent winner of the national tidy towns competition, Westport is truly a beautiful and interesting place to visit, earning it a long-standing reputation as one of Ireland's most popular tourist towns.
The town is just 5 miles from Ireland's Holy mountain Croagh Patrick standing some 2,500ft tall, and is within easy reach of several blue flag beaches, plus the famous Greenway to enjoy miles of walking, cycling and many other sports and adventure activities.
Places of interest within easy driving distances are numerous and include:
Westport House and grounds, Westport Quay, Croagh Patrick, The National Famine Memorial, The Greenway, Achill island and Clare island.
Heading South of Westport for Leenane, Ashleigh Falls, Delphi and the Adventure centre, Kylemore Abbey Connemara, Galway City.
Head East towards Castlebar for National Folk Museum at Turlough Park, Castlebar, and Cong - where the film 'The Quiet Man' was filmed.
North Mayo is the site of the ancient Ceide Fields.
Just 40 minutes drive South East of Westport is the Irish speaking Gaeltacht area of Tourmakeady with it's beautiful woodland walk and waterfall and Lough Measc Distillery.
In Westport itself, Mescan Brewery offer tours to sample their beers.
Quite simply Westport offers the best base in the region to explore the town itself and the nearby places of interest.
The house is great for groups, wedding parties or family holidays. Newly refurbished to a very high standard, the house is disabled friendly with all accessible bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor.
Home from home, we have lots of baby and toddler equipment to save you the trouble. This includes a travel cot, highchair, baby bath, potty, toddler step, child-friendly cutlery, plates and bowls available on request.
The house is very well appointed and the kitchen includes quality pots, pans, utensils, dinner and glassware so that you can enjoy a home from home experience if you aren't out and about in Westport. We offer store cupboard essentials to get your stay started as easily as possible.
There are two separate reception rooms, each with an open fire place and TV so larger groups or families can have their own space to relax and enjoy as they choose.
The house has Wifi throughout. TVs have Freeview boxes as a minimum and some are smart TVs. There's a DVD player in the main living room.
Bedlinen and towels included for your stay.
Guests have full use of the entire house and gardens, including all appliances including cooker, extractor fan, dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and coffee machine.
The boiler house, located beside the back door of the house, is a utility area and houses the washing machine, tumble dryer and a spare fridge should additional space be needed. One allocation of fuel left here for your convenience too.
Sports gear, walking shoes and boots can also be washed in the butler sink if needs be, and left in here after a day's walking, hiking etc. We ask people not to wear outdoor shoes in the house to protect the carpets.
The house is spacious, set on half an acre of land, with a mature garden offering privacy. We have sheds to the rear of the property which can provide secure parking for bikes or sporting equipment on request.
There's lots of parking at the house and the back area of the house is spacious allowing you to sit outside to enjoy some sunshine when we're lucky with fine weather.!
Guests have access to the whole ground floor of the house, one of the sheds for storage upon request, and the gardens.
The upstairs is private and used for storage.
