Nan’s Cottage
Tucked away on the north-eastern edge of Briston village, Nan’s Cottage is a welcoming North Norfolk retreat with countryside views, stylish interiors, and plenty of space to relax with family or friends. With a hot tub, garden bar, BBQ hut, and secure enclosed garden, it’s a lovely base for exploring the coast and countryside.
Inside the cottage
The entrance door opens into a traditional pan tiled entrance hall, complete with a washing machine and handy shoe rack for muddy boots after coastal walks.
Just off the hallway is the ground-floor bathroom, featuring a bath with a rainfall power shower overhead — ideal for a refreshing start to the day or a relaxing soak after exploring North Norfolk.
Also on the ground floor is a comfortable king-size bedroom with a clever TV bed, perfect for lazy mornings or cosy evenings in. The TV rises remotely from the foot of the bed, adding a fun and practical touch. With the bedroom located directly opposite the bathroom, this layout can also work especially well for older guests or those with reduced mobility.
The hallway leads through to the modern oak fitted kitchen, which includes a dining table seating six, plus a high chair for younger guests. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you would expect for a self-catering stay, along with a bean-to-cup coffee machine and air fryer for those extra home comforts.
From the kitchen, double patio doors open out into the rear garden, creating an easy indoor-outdoor flow for meals and evenings outside.
Next door is the cosy lounge, with two or three double sofas depending on occupancy, making it a sociable and comfortable space to unwind. Guests can enjoy a selection of books, games and DVDs, as well as Free-sat HD TV and a Blu-ray DVD player.
A striking spiral stone staircase leads from the lounge to the first floor, where you’ll find two further bedrooms.
The spacious master bedroom has a king-size bed, along with a wardrobe and drawer storage. A lovely character feature in this room is Nan’s original treble singer sewing machine, kept here as a nod to the cottage’s history. There is also space for yoga mats, and the travel cot is stored here too.
The third bedroom is a charming twin room, decorated in a bold black and white theme, created in memory of the owners’ much-loved Dalmatian, Pebbles.
Outside space
As you arrive, a sign points you towards Nan’s Cottage parking area.
The front garden is laid to lawn, with a sectioned gravel parking area, and there is also additional parking space available just beyond the garden on the gravel road leading to the property.
To the rear, the cottage really comes into its own. The private enclosed garden is mainly laid with Indian sandstone patio, edged with pea shingle, and offers plenty of space for relaxing outdoors.
There is an L-shaped outdoor sofa seating area for al fresco drinks and dining, as well as a private hot tub, perfect for making the most of your break away in North Norfolk. The hot tub is suitable for adults and children aged 12+.
Guests can also enjoy access to the cosy BBQ hut during the colder months (available on request), while Nan’s Garden Bar adds a fun and unique touch for evenings at home.
The rear of the cottage enjoys open views across the Stody Estate’s arable fields and woodland, giving a real sense of peace and space. The garden is fully fenced, making it a secure outdoor area for well-behaved dogs.
The location
Nan’s Cottage is ideally placed for discovering the best of North Norfolk.
The cottage is just a short drive from the attractive Georgian market town of Holt, known for its independent shops, cafés, antique stores and bookshops. Holt is also well known as a favourite spot for the Royal Family when staying at Sandringham.
The stunning North Norfolk coast is within easy reach, including Morston for birdwatching and seal trips, as well as Blakeney, Cley, and Salthouse. Venture a little further and you can enjoy traditional seaside days out in Sheringham and Cromer, or head the other way towards Wells-next-the-Sea and Burnham Market.
For day trips further afield, both Norwich and King’s Lynn are around a 40-minute drive away, while Sandringham, Blickling Estate, Felbrigg Hall, and Holkham Estate all make excellent places to visit during your stay.
