A 180 degree view of the ocean and islands. Most of the time you can only hear the water and the birds. Very good night sky, as there is little light pollution. Well appointed and equipped. Cottage now has a wall-mounted split air conditioner/heat unit that works great to eliminate humidity.
We had a mishap with the oven, which caught on fire for no apparent reason while cooking some salmon. After burning itself out, a new stove was delivered within 2 days. We love the location and made friends with gulls, a hummingbird, and the chipmunks that steal the bird food. A classic Maine view from the deck!
Perfect location for a serene and restful vacation. The view is mesmerizing, the cottage is well-supplied and comfortable. This property exceeded expectations.
Beautiful site with views of the water and outer islands, with Spruce Head visible to the far right. The cottage works very well for two people, could accommodate children. It sits in its own private spot on the water at the back of a well kept property shared with a big house and barns. We look forward to renting it again in the future!
My stay at the cottage was so great! The view is so beautiful, and the cottage is so cute! It's such a beautiful place, and close to so many great restaurants and things to do. Can't wait to come back!
Old Maine charm, with lots of little old Maine quirks. The shower is revamped and is nice, and the kitchen is well stocked. Very clean and comfy. The hedge our front has grown up a bit, (or maybe we've shrunk,) but could still see the ocean. The brewery next door has music, but seems only on weekends so that's ok.
I would like to see a better toilet seat, as this one had trouble staying open.
Karen has always been easy to work with.

An honest review on this sweet little property- would stay again
First- my husband and I would certainly rent this property again.
However- I feel it’s important to leave an honest review.
My family owns 3 homes in the area that they rent out privately for vacations and business. This year- all 3 homes were hosting family from away for a wedding, so wethis little spot. My review comes from my own personal experience with growing up in this area.
We found the location of the home to be PERFECT- and the view was indeed stunning.
Cleanliness- 3/5 stars. On the surface, the property was clean. It has the feel of a well-loved home. It could use a thorough deep clean. I found a few tumble weeds of dust/hair/spiderwebs and spiders in corners and under the bed. I recognize that it is IMPOSSIBLE to deep clean a rental in between renters- so I understand. It didn’t bother us- but for any visitors with dust mite or even pet allergies- this could be a problem.
The smell of mothballs when we entered the home was overwhelming. The bath linens need to be updated- as many of the large towels set out for us were well worn and starting to fall apart on the edges.
Check in process- 3/5 stars. There really wasn’t much “process”. I reached out to the owner a few days before check-in when I had received no details on location of key, etc. (got the automated email from VRBO, but no additional info). Owner did respond and let me know that there was no process, and key was hanging on the wall in the cabin.
Accuracy of listing: 3/5
This home has spotty internet (worked 3ish out of 7 days we were there). For us, that is a REQUIREMENT when we travel (as my husband works remotely, and was NOT on vacation). There is a router in the home, but it is daisy chained off the main house, and does not keep a good signal. My instructions from the owner for a fix was to go to the main house and ask them to reset the router. We ended up not doing this- since we are renters and didn’t feel comfortable approaching the other renters(?) at 9pm/8am, 12 noon on Friday, etc.
Everything else in the description was AS DESCRIBED. For us - we chose this rental BECAUSE it had internet…. Hence the rating
Communication 3/5 - there’s definitely a delay with communicating- but owner does respond through VRBO app, and cell number is provided at the rental (however owner is not on site if you run into issues). Owner does indeed answer the cell- if you need to call.
Location- absolutely perfect
Had a terrific week of weather to stay at this quiet, cozy, very efficient cottage. We love this location because of its proximity to all that the mid coast of Maine has to offer. A better hostess could not have been found.
A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the ocean! The view from the cottage is great, and the deck with Adirondack chairs is a spectacular place to enjoy the sunrise over the ocean and gaze at the stars. The kitchen has all of the modern conveniences and there are great views of the ocean right from the dining area with large windows all along the front of the cottage. It was amazing to open all of the windows and let the sea breeze flow through while listening to the ocean waves. The bathroom overall was a bit small and dated and smelled a bit like mothballs, but the shower was very nice and updated. The bedroom was also small, yet clean, and the bed was comfortable. The views and sounds of the ocean again were amazing right from the room. We'd definitely stay here again!
This cottage is the perfect location to get away, relax and enjoy the tides and the waterfowl. It is very quiet and private. Also, there are many restaurants, shops, harbors, and sights to see within an easy driving distance.
This cottage and property offers peaceful, private bliss in a sublime coastal setting. It was perfectly equipped and comfortable, like slipping into your favorite pair of slippers. The nearby area offers beaches, preserves and parks if one wants to slip away, though my husband and I found we just wanted to relax and take in the beauty and nature of the coastal waters. Karen was more than helpful and responsive which made our stay carefree. If the stars align we’d love to come back!
Beautiful, private location with unobstructed views of the ocean. It is obvious that Karen wants her guests to have a relaxing time as everything you need is available to you. Thanks for helping us create lovely family memories in your cottage!
I instantly felt calmer as soon as I sat down in the wonderful Adirondack chair on the deck. The water is so close and soothing. Complete quiet when you want it and close enough to town to provide interesting diversions and great food. The cottage has personality, unlike some rentals that feel like just another hotel room. Loved it here.
The view from the deck is amazing and it was wonderful waking up to the birds/waves crashing along the rocks. If you are looking for a quiet mid-coast Maine vacation, this is the spot. The cottage is behind a house so when you turn down the drive, just keep going past the house until you hit the end of the drive.
This is my third visit and won’t be the last. Karen is always helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. The cottage is in the perfect location if you want rest and relaxation. It is comfortable, well stocked and close to all mid coast amenities. I can’t recommend it enough!
Perfect location—water views from almost every room
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Karen’s cottage. Very relaxing place. Comfy bed and furniture. Well-supplied. Wi-fi recently upgraded. Views and location can’t be beat. Great deck and Adirondack chairs. Nice to be able to do laundry. TV and DW were out during our stay, but Karen compensated us for the inconvenience. The yard and outdoor plantings are well-kept, too, and added to the appeal. Within walking distance to micro brewery and attached weekend food truck.
I came here for two weeks to finish a big project and I really needed peace and quiet to concentrate. It was perfect. And it was so lovely there, I miss it. The property is absolutely beautiful. The setting is amazing--quiet and private and right on the water. The sunsets are so beautiful, I started crying during one of them (there are chairs out on the deck and also a table where you can eat--tho not pictured... they're really nice). The town is almost unbelievably beautiful and charming with great lobster restaurants just a 5 minute drive away. The inside of the house is cozy and perfect. It's not super fancy and the decor and appliances are older, but I loved it--it felt comfortable and homey and wasy it's also very well stocked. In two weeks, I never found myself wanting something she didn't have. Karen was a great host--super responsive. I was kind of a high-maintenance, finicky guest and she was very gracious and kind and on the ball. But she also left me alone to do my work (she lives elsewhere, so everything was via text and phone) ... the house is totally private. There's no one around. There are neighbors, but they're not *right there and the property feels private without feeling creepily isolated. The lawn is gorgeous with lots of flowers and trees. Some written instructions would be nice for how to use the dishwasher, TV and A/C but I figured it out and all worked perfectly. The bathroom isn't pictured, but it's really nice, with a huge stone shower and a washer/dryer. The bedroom is beautiful and quiet. The WiFi is a bit slow. Streaming movies is a little spotty. But I can't recommend this place enough.
We stayed here last year and loved it. Cottage is perfect for a couple and one of the great features is the bathroom. It is also convenient to Rockland and Camden for day trips.
The place was delightful. View perfect. Not great for kids. But perfect for my husband and I. Cabin cute and comfortable. New shower in bath was great. We will come back

About the host
Hosted by Karen L. Knopper
After practicing law in NYC for a good number of years, I moved back to Detroit and now the own two pet boarding facilities in suburban Detroit. Dogs are a lot more fun than other lawyers. I started coming up to Maine in the mid-70's with a law student chum of mine whose family had a camp on Spruce Head Island.
Why they chose this property
After renting the cottage from a gentleman for two weeks every summer for several years, he asked if I wanted to buy it as he was building a 'real' house in Owls Head. The rest is history.
