About this property
Duck - Sound View, w/ Pool, Hot Tub, Kayaks, Bikes, Billiards & Guest Pantry
We love our beach cottage and know you will, too. "Sounds Good" is a custom-built 3,320 sq. ft. three-level home loaded with great amenities. Our cottage has three master suites because privacy matters, a private pool and hot tub, and a well-equipped kitchen with a fully stocked guest pantry. There is a sports lounge on the ground level with a wet bar, billiards, and a large flat-screen TV for watching your favorite movies or for quality gaming. Call us crazy, but we still have cable TV throughout the cottage, and the main TVs also stream. Sounds Good is our second home, and we visit it often, so we only open our cottage to guests for a very short season, simply because we miss it too much when we're gone.
One important note: though Sounds Good is in Duck, we are passionate about the wild Banker horses in Corolla, just 8 miles north. When you stay with us, $50 from your week's rental is gladly donated to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund to help these wild horses continue to thrive. Okay, back to cottage info...
Our five-bedroom, five and 1/2-bath home is super clean. We are committed to keeping this level of quality for our guests (and ourselves). We aim to exceed your expectations because your vacation and investment are important. At the same time, we INSIST that our guests are respectful and gentle on our home.
Sounds Good is a peaceful, laid-back place to vacation. We do not host parties and will not tolerate rowdy behavior; that's just not what we are about. We are about- is being readily available to you before and during your stay. We enjoy getting to know our guests and respond quickly to any need or question about the cottage or visiting the Outer Banks. Consider us your text-able concierge! We offer a well-stocked guest pantry; please see the photo in our gallery. Please bring your own linens and towels, or they can be easily rented from a company right down the street and conveniently delivered to the cottage.
Sounds Good is in one of Duck's most charming communities, Carolina Dunes, and is near the ocean, only one walkable block to the beach access, and the Currituck sound is just 50 yards away from the front door. Enjoy the Currituck sound and sunset views from the front balcony.
You'll be near all the things that make for a perfect family vacation: whether it's strolling along the Currituck sound walking trail, directly in front of the cottage, or wandering through the sound front shops (1.8 miles south - a walk or bike ride away), or dining at one of the many nearby restaurants, or visiting the Duck town park for an evening concert, you won't have to travel far or necessarily by car.
Back at the cottage, relax on one of the spacious decks or enjoy a good book under the second-floor covered deck, or chill in the hammock swing. The fenced backyard offers mature live oaks and is extremely private. Cool off in the backyard pool or go kayaking using our two kayaks. Launching the kayaks from the community dock is just a block and a half south. We've got the gear: wheel dollies, paddles, and life vests.
Game night is always fun, and our home has plenty of board game choices. Downstairs, the sports lounge has two TVs, one at the wet bar and the main flat-screen TV. There's an apartment-size dishwasher, microwave, full-size stainless refrigerator, and a high-quality 9' pool table.
If you're looking for location, fun, relaxation, and comfort, Sounds Good has it all because it's not a busy rental; it's our home!
House Gear: Four beach bikes, six beach chairs, various floats, two beach umbrellas, DVDs, books, a high-chair, crib, booster chair, changing table, pack n' play, all expected deck furniture, hammock swing, gas grill, Blackstone griddle, and beach buggy to cart your gear to the beach, which is only a 5-minute walk.
Enjoy your vacation wherever you stay, but we hope it will be with us!
Cheers!
Tom & Kelly

About the host
Hosted by Tom and Kelly Wilkes
We are Tom and Kelly Wilkes, we purchased "Sounds Good" in December of 2016 and are still overwhelmed with how blessed we are to have such a lovely beach cottage. We certainly don't have a home like this back at our primary residence in Richmond, VA.
Tom is a social worker for Henrico County, and I work for Virginia Lottery, no I cannot play. We enjoy spending time with our family and friends, and visiting Sounds Good as often as we can. We both enjoy playing golf when we visit the cottage but are complete hacks. Tom's hobby is running. I volunteer at the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, and we enjoy seeing live music and enjoying good food with good friends.

Why they chose this property
When we decided to look for a beach home, this is our second one, we had no idea we'd end up in Duck, which has turned out to be the most beautiful little community. About 360 people live in Duck year round. The house was by far the best quality home we had seen, and we looked at a lot of them! It really was love at first sight. We love it so much that we have a very short rental season of only nine weeks. We want to be at Sounds Good as much as we can with our family and friends.
What makes this property unique
Sounds Good simply has everything we want when we visit. The home has been so well maintained...you can tell there's a lot of love in this place, and it truly has become our second home and hopefully our primary home in the near future. We hope you will love our cottage as much as we do and return year after year.
