About this property
Beautifully situated amidst rolling farmland
The ambiance of Bowhouse is beautifully captured in one of its five star reviews :-
"Lovely location with a homely feel We arrived late at night and didn't really get to see the house until the following morning, when we were very pleasantly surprised by the charming location - horses coming up to chat over the garden walls - the wonderful views from almost every window, and the general homey-ness of the house. It has clearly been a much loved home and remains a haven, with unexpected nooks, a warm, sun filled conservatory and lovely large open rooms. It was an absolute pleasure to spend a week there, big enough to accommodate our extended family and guests with ease, and a lovely entertaining space also. We enjoyed early morning in the conservatory just as much as late night chats, and the facilities overall entirely met our needs (definitely got value from the dishwasher too!). The children were delighted by a selection of interesting toys and games, and the adults tucked into a wonderfully random collection of books .It is a charming, tucked away location where there is a pervasive sense of peace and quiet which was a very much needed respite". Bowhouse is a charming 300 year-old farmhouse set in beautiful Scottish countryside. An ideal family accommodation, it’s been tastefully modernised, yet still manages to retain its original character. The rooms are bright, well decorated with many homely touches and tasteful furnishing. All rooms, especially the sun lounge, offer wonderful panoramic views. The large stone walled garden is well maintained with lawns and shrubs and there is secure storage for sports equipment.
Accommodation comprises:
Ground Floor: Lounge with open fire, dining room, library, sun lounge, breakfast kitchen, utility room, bathroom with bidet and shower over bath. There is an electric cooker, oil-fired heating, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave oven. Television, DVD, CD player and Wifi is also installed.
First Floor: One double and two twin bedrooms, spacious shower room. Bed linen and towels are supplied to guests.
Bowhouse is a wonderful base for exploring the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, with its beaches and quaint fishing villages. There are plenty of golf courses too - St Andrews is about 25 miles away – and sports activities to enjoy. The farmhouse is within easy reach of Edinburgh, the Trossachs, and Stirling. Yet despite Bowhouse’s rural location, it’s less than three miles from the dual carriageway leading to the Scottish motorway system.
Cleanliness has always been a prime consideration with Bowhouse, and that is even more so in the days of covid 19. The house is meticulously cleaned by the local housekeeper between all visits, and the best practices are observed. The ratings given for cleanliness in the guests reviews speak for themselves, emphasising the excellent standard achieved.
Whether you’re looking for a sporting, cultural or relaxing holiday, Bowhouse can help make your stay in Scotland one to remember.

Another stay whilst visiting children and grandchildren in Fife and Kinross. Peaceful location, well equipped and a lovely garden room to eat in and play games with the wee ones.
Very well equiped, wonderful garden room where we enjoyed breakfast every day, watching the birds in the garden and passing overhead.

How nice that you really appreciated this. I think that it is one of the most delightful features of the house, and you are the first guest to have commented specifically on it.
Nice authentic Scottish home. 3 bedrooms, multi spaces for whole family to relax or sit by the fireplace and enjoy a good movie at the end of a day of exploring the countr9
Lovely cottage in the countryside, perfect for exploring the area
The milk, bread, orange juice and bacon waiting for us on arrival was a wonderful welcome touch
Great communication throughout the process
Be sure to download the PDF instructions before you go so you have the code, we had trouble getting in.
Lovely little farmhouse, charming and was well stocked for us. Would highly recommend!
The house and property are lovely, clean and well cared for. The owner happily answered any questions i had right away. We would definitely recommend Bowhouse.
Wonderful time at Bowhouse. Beautiful country and iconic golf courses. Fish and chips, haggis were awesome. Host could not have been more cordial. Will stay here whenever we return and will be recommending to friends and family.
300 year old stone farmhouse in the countryside. Beautiful location in rolling hills with horses crazing. The house is very comfortable with everything we needed, large rooms and a lovely sunroom to enjoy the view with the morning sun.
All good.
Just great to be set away from the noise of city living.
Bowhouse Farm is very welcoming and comfortable.
It had everything we needed for a 4 night break away.
We would gladly book again to stay here, without a thought of doubt.
Thank you for having us
Lovely spacious cottage with a traditional feel, in a wonderful rural location but close to main routes. The cottage is surrounded by ponies which come to the fence to greet you as you walk along the track. Fantastic log burning fire in the living room makes for a cosy evening. Great place at a great price. ❤️
Bowhouse is a beautiful old farmhouse set in a stunning location, it has a lovely energy about it, the house itself is a gem, with lots of little extras, I am an avid reader and love old books so l was very pleased with the collection of books on hand, also a nice selection of games for the kids. The garden is very well maintained and the dogs loved it.
All in all, we had a very nice break and would love to visit again sometime when the weather is warmer and we could enjoy the garden and surrounding area at its best.
What a delightful house in a beautiful, country location. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) stayed for 10 days and didn’t want to leave. We found Bowhouse the perfect spot whether we wanted to relax in the garden, wander the surrounding countryside, or head out and explore Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and environs. Beds were particularly comfortable; kitchen had all we needed. Would love to return one day! Will long remember the wonderful garden, horses nickering just over the fence, the late light of summer and the peace and quiet in a hectic world.

You clearly found the house and location, as I did, a haven of peace and tranquility in a hectic world.
You and your family are welcome back anytime.

Had a super family break in this wonderful cottage for 3 days. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, and more.
The owner has the most charming property with a lovely mix of old and new styles, and has many lovely personal effects and decoration throughout.
Wonderful views and garden, and so tranquil and relaxing with a cosy open fire in the lounge, and relaxing sunroom.
Great position, as felt lovely and private, but only a short drive to many various activities and places of interest.
Will be delighted to stay here again as soon as possible.

I am very surprised by this review, and its sweeping generalisations. In well over ten years renting, I have never had one like it. I could go into details and comment on each remark, such as the fact that the scaffolding was there in the interests of safety to repair recent storm damage and was perfectly safe, or that the fridge was in perfect working order and the food in it was fresh food always put there for the guest’s first day convenience, but I would rather let others speak for me.
May I invite potential guests to look beyond this review, and study others. They will find that of the last ten, nine were 10/10, and one was 8/10. I feel that these give a far fairer picture of the facilities and standard offered.
It is our aim to give complete satisfaction. The contact details of the housekeeper and facilities manager are provided, should they ever be needed.
I wish we had been able to spend more time at the property, but we were in Scotland due to an event, that we spent most of the 5 days there.... I would not hesitate to rebook this property, as everything that you would need in a home, when on holiday, is present there. There is buckets loads of room so you never feel "squashed in" like a lot of the newer properties that are up for renting... As soon as we arrived we were met with complimentary food and milk, which is a very nice touch, and very welcomed. It was very quiet at night, so you will never be disturbed by anything other than the occasional owl. The gardens around the house, are welcoming with more than enough room to get the barbeque out whilst the children entertain themselves, so if you do need somewhere quiet, very homely, enough space for more than 6 people, and not a bad price, pick here you won't be disappointed.... Cheers

Hi Rob,
Thanks for taking the time to write such a charming review.
It is most fulfilling for me, as you have captured just the ethos which I believe is one of the strengths of Bowhouse. In addition to all the things to do locally, it really is a rest haven, and great for a break. I cannot wait to get there in August.
I look forward to welcoming you back.
Cheers,
Malcolm
We had a lovely weekend in this property it had everything you could need also quiet and secluded. The house was nice and warm for our arrival which was lovely as it is winter time! Lots of information for travellers on things to see and do if so desired. Would definitely return to Bowhouse.
My family and I had a wonderful stay in Lochgelly. Beautiful older home full of charm which is well stocked. The home is much larger than we expected with plenty of room for the six of us to stretch out. Also, the location is absolutely stunning with the horses nearby and the rolling countryside. We enjoyed it so much we added an additional night. Highly recommended and look forward to our next stay.

We had a lovely family holiday in a beautiful setting. The house is big and spacious but poorly maintained. The floors are very uneven. The upstairs shower didn’t drain away properly and downstairs shower was a spray. The sitting room furniture is uncomfortable, very old and very low making it difficult to rise from.
We didn’t let any of this detract from having a great holiday but it would stop us renting again unless the property was upgraded.

Why they chose this property
My wife and I moved to Fife in 1980, from Surrey. We wanted something completely different, yet convenient. She found this house, and as soon as I saw it, I knew we had to have it. If I had been asked to sketch her dream house, this was it. A serene stone house, set in a large walled garden, amidst rolling fields.. We lived there for 20 years, before circumstances forced a move back south. We could not bear to give up the house, and I still use if for vacations.
