This was an amazing cottage, walking distance to everything local. The cottage was so well appointed and comfortable, and had everything a guest would need!

Thank you for your lovely review. It really was a pleasure hosting you and hopefully we will see you again in the future.
Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in this adorable cottage. Lisa was so helpful and had great recommendations for things to do and see in the surrounding area. Lacock and Castle Combe were so neat.
Good launching point for trips to Bath or the Cotswold. Chippenham is a charming location and many amenities are close. Cottage configuration is a bit wonky, but very comfortable. A guest must be comfortable with tight steps. Lisa was very accommodating as a host.
We rented this property because we were looking to experience British village life. The property was very comfortable, spotlessly clean, and stylish. I love the local art on the walls. Easy walk to restaurants and local pubs. Easy drive to a great many sites in the West Country and Cotswalds. We’d love to come back some day and hope we can! I would recommend this property to my family and friends.

So pleased that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed the cottage. You were a pleasure to host and we look forward to seeing you again!
Artisan Cottage is a beautifully formed cottage to the side of the owner's ( Lisa) gorgeous Georgian Home. Parking is on the driveway and the cottage is tastefully decorated with luxury touches including Neptune soft furnishings, Bramley toiletries and some wonderful hand made pottery. Lisa is friendly, welcoming and a font of knowledge about things to do locally. We visited Castle Combe village, Lacock, Stow on the Wold and the nearby farm shop. On the way home we popped into Marlborough ( well worth a visit) via Avebury and next time we'll take advantage of the fact that the cottage is close to Chippenham station from where Bath can be reached in 10 to 15 minutes. Highly recommended and we'll be back!
Very clean and comfortable artisan cottage. The location is perfect - just a few steps away from the main street, but easy walking to everything in town. The cottage is quiet, private, well-equipped and a great place to relax. Lisa and Mark (owners) were friendly, helpful and available if needed. They included a lot of information on the local area and great recommendations on places to visit, eat, etc. We were there for two weeks and will definitely try to stay there again when in the area.
My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend and couldn’t have had a better time. The house is beautiful and very spacious, with everything you need for your stay. Split over three floors the place is even nicer than the pictures and there are lots of nice little touches throughout. Lisa was very helpful with information before and during our visit and the whole experience was great. We’ll be coming back and sending friends! Very easy for day trips to the cotswolds / Bath too.
Just back from a lovely break which included 3 nights at artisan cottage. Was in great location for visiting quaint villages of the Cotswolds! The place itself was clean, stylish and finished to a very high standard! We wanted for nothing as all the amenities you could ask for were on hand, the layout took a little getting used to and watch your head on the low door frames but it all added to the character! We will definitely visit again!

Thank you for being great guests. Really pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and the area. Hope to welcome you again in the future
What a gorgeous place to stay! It's a Georgian extension to a medieval building, spread over three floors. Kitchen and small toilet on the ground floor, living room and bathroom on the middle floor and master bedroom in a loft conversion.
Everything is very clean, and very comfortable. At time of writing it looks as though it was refurbished yesterday. They've done a lovely job of it. Comfy sofas, with lots of reading material and a box of board games provided (I got beaten at chess). The kitchen is really cleverly designed to make a small room feel much larger. Washing machine, dishwasher, oven, hob and microwave are crammed into a set of units - you won't believe that they could fit it all in. We cooked there twice and had an easy time of it.
They provide locally produced provisions - we had some porridge, delish jam, milk, eggs etc.
The bathroom has a rain type shower and a handheld head, and a nice sized bath. A full set of shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath etc were provided. Just be careful of the low lintel on the bathroom door. It's an old place - they were shorter back then!
The bedroom is up in the roof with a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams. The lighting in there (and throughout) is really well designed and makes the best of the space. The bed is big and comfortable. We slept very well.
Really good communication on the HomeAway app from Lisa prior to arrival, and the offer of some garden produce for us while we were there.
It's about 10-15 mins walk from the rail station, about 90 mins walk from the beautiful village of Lacock, with other walks in the local area along the canal and the river Avon. We didn't have a car, so took a taxi to Castle Coombe but didn't travel any further.
We had a wonderful time, and I can thoroughly recommend that you choose Artisan Cottage. It was our second choice, after another place was booked this weekend. We're glad now that the other place was full.

About the host
Hosted by Artisan Cottage
Lisa and Mark live in the Georgian house next door. They moved here from London and took on the task of renovating the grade II* listed house and cottage. “We fell in love with the house and cottage for its history and charm, and we’re excited to share the cottage with guests looking for a peaceful, character-filled escape.”
Why they chose this property
Sir John Betjeman, the esteemed poet and architectural enthusiast, once described St Mary Street in Chippenham as "The most perfect unselfconscious bit of English country townscape one could hope to find." It remains little changed since that time. It's a beautiful street, and close to town. The cottage is a great place as a base to explore the Cotswolds, the ancient landscapes of Stonehenge and beautiful Wiltshire villages such as Lacock and Castle Coombe. It's a short walk to the station and a 10 min rail journey to Bath, or 1 hour by rail to London
What makes this property unique
Grade II* listed status is rare —it indicates the property is of exceptional architectural or historic interest. Exposed Cotswold stone walls, oak beams, a mansard roof, and handmade pottery add layers of authentic character The design choices aren’t just charming—they’re deeply local and rooted in the region’s history. The cottage’s hidden entrance, tucked behind other period houses creates a sense of privacy and discovery. It’s the kind of place that feels like a secret! Thoughtful furnishings, art, and Bramley bath products create a boutique-level guest experience. The cottage is aesthetically and emotionally memorable. Opposite a park and the River Avon for peaceful views and walks. Walkable into Chippenham, and a short drive to major destinations like Lacock, Castle Combe, Bath, and Stonehenge. Great for a romantic get away, solo retreat-goers, and heritage tourists.
