Beautiful property! Exceptionally clean. We loved sitting out on the covered pier watching the sunsets and sunrises. We were surrounded by wonderful wildlife… the dolphins, large rays, wild horses and many friendly dogs. Miriam, the house manager, is lovely and picked up hot food for us after a long day of delayed flights. We will be back!

Magic

We had an excellent stay. The cabana and property were remarkable. A neighborhood bar emerged while we were there and I hope it doesn’t last as every other aspect of this place was spot on!

Hi Hal sorry to hear your stay wasn’t as quiet as you would have liked. We had guest also staying on the property at that time who runs a charity on the island and is very kind to and popular with the local youth. So they all love to come around and see him when he is there. Hope to see you again. Thanks. Georgie

This was a wonderful place to stay. Miriam, Johnny, and Victor made it even better. Being next to the dolphin Institute was a pure treat, and being able to snorkel and see so many amazing sea creatures right out from the dock was wonderful. I traveled down there with a torn rotator cuff, so I couldn’t do a whole lot heavy duty swimming, so this place was perfect

This is the spot!

Great spot on Sandy Bay. Close enough to walk along the beach to a few places to enjoy a meal. On site security at night is a plus, the dock is 100' off the reef for easy snorkel dips. The shower is a bit tight, we hope the manager and owner will renovate the space and make the spot even more PERFECT! Best hosts we have ever had the pleasure to meet!

Fabulous on the beach

Perfectly laid out tiny A frame with a screen porch, private deck and beach chairs. Watch the dolphins training 75 feet from your private dock. All amenities including silent AC, 4 burner stove, refrigerator, flat screen Direct TV and hot shower. Two good restaurants a short walk down the beachGood snorkeling from shore, but mostly dead coral. We plan to return.

Miriam was an amazimg hostess. After a long flight from Canada she quickly made us feel comfortable and made the whole pick up/check in easy for us. She went out of the way to help us get around, laundry and cleaning service. She communicated with us easy through Whatsapp. She had a great network of support staff that helped us out during our stay. There was a lovely security man at night. The place was perfect for a couple. There was a private dock we were able to Snorkel off of. The location was close to some amazing restaurants, like Blue Bahia, Sunken Fish, Plan B Pizza, and the Anthony key resort restaurant Ankor Seafood. It was easy to flag a taxi from the main road if needed to get to West End. And it was fun and easy taking the water taxi from the dock, but slightly more money than a land taxi. Would go back again!

Lovely

Everything we’d hoped for. Exactly as listed and much, much more. We asked for extended stay and were accommodated with warmth, speed, accuracy and smiles. This Cabana is perfect, in and out. Thank you, Miriam, Georgie, Johnny, Victor, and of course, Lucile.❤️

Just as wonderful the second time!

We had such a wonderful time here last year that we came back for another week. Once again Mirriam took excellent care of us from picking us up at the airport, to dropping us back off at the end of the week. The cottage was lovely and had all that we needed. We had a week of snorkeling, relaxing and watching the dolphins at Anthony's Key. We will be back! Thanks again Mirriam!

Sanctuary

Really great location. Steps from the water and access to the Marine Park. A short swim to the reef. Cozy cabana. Miriam and other staff very nice, helpful and always there to help if needed. Not a big space but great for 2. We likened it to a small version of Humphrey’s cabana in TV series Death in Paradise.

A little piece of heaven!

We loved our stay at The Sanctuary Cabana! Our favorite part was sitting at the end of the dock, drinking our morning coffee watching the dolphins frolic! Miriam, the property manager was wonderful! She was always there to help with our needs. Johnny the grounds maintenance man was just as helpful and accommodating as was Victor our trusty night watchman and his sidekick Roy! We will truly miss our new friends and look forward to coming back.

Winter escape!

From our first arrival, we knew that we were in for a great experience at The Sanctuary! Miriam and her bunch were so accommodating. Great little cabana right by the Caribbean Sea and protected from the prevailing winds with a location on Roatan that also provided us fantastic sunsets and good snorkeling! Location was very convenient to explore and to visit restaurants and shops. Getting a taxi was easy as well. Two weeks of paradise! Shirley and Greg

Great stay

Perfect place to stay if you want quiet, away from tourists. Had beach to myself, dock to myself. Felt very safe. Excellent views. Watched the dolphins every day. Easy to get a taxi. House was comfortable, grounds very nice. Easy walk to bar/restaurant. Wish I planned a bit better with grocery shopping that first day, gotten more food but I managed just fine. Had local meals recommended by the property manager—sooo good!!! Bring plenty of cash for tipping etc. Can be challenging finding working ATMs. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect bungalow on the sea

This property was exactly what we had in mind, a cozy little Casita on the ocean. Even though it was small, the kitchen was very well stocked and the bathroom was also nice. The shower was hot and had great pressure! The dock was wonderful to go sit on and have coffee and breakfast. The staff was very helpful and friendly, even offering to do a load of laundry for us! We were within walking distance of restaurants and the Sandy Bay Dive shop. Victor, the security guard at night, really helped us feel safe and protected. It was perfect. The only advice I would give other travelers is to research how much excursions (like snorkeling and fishing) and things like that cost before you arrive. We ran into some opportunists!

Can't wait to come back!!

What a wonderful week we had at the guest cabana at the sanctuary! Room for everything we needed and a perfect location! Miriam, Johnny and Victor made us feel so very welcome and take great care of the property and their guests. We snorkeled right from the dock to the reef a few times a day every day and it never got old. We saw tons of reef fish, cuttle fish, 3 different kinds of rays, an eel, lobsters and so many more. Having spotted eagle rays swoop past us 4 different times was a highlight for me. We ate breakfast every morning out on the lovely dock and watched the dolphins play just across the boat lane at Anthony's Key. We had wonderful dinners at the restaurants just down the beach, especially Blue Bahia. Thank you again Miriam, loved our time here at the Cabana!

Wow, Thanks Tracy for such a beautiful descriptive review of the sea-life in our marine reserve. I know this will paint a new picture of what a Caribbean vacation at The Sanctuary could look like and entice and excite our future guests. Thanks :) And see you SOON :) Georgie

6/10 Okay

Shack on the beach.

Why can they charge this much per night? Because you think the location is great and you don't know any better about the cabana. My wife said 2 stars. I gave 3 stars because I hate to feel rude. The location didn't change, but the quality of the facility? The pictures look good. Now add 10 years of wear and weather. To the dock. To the bathroom. To the kitchen. Etc. It's romantic in it's own way, but for the $$$, you can find better facilities with equally good beach space. I mean, even a shack on the beach should have a blender! Seriously. Arrival gift basket? No. (Didn't care but was advertised.) Coconut oil for bug repellent in gift basket? No basket. (Didn't care but was advertised.) Beach towels? No. Mid week cleaning? No. Mid week towel exchange? No. And with this much humidity - you'd like a new one. Dish soap? No. Bathroom soap? No. Clean? You wonder what will crawl out from under the mattress at night. Working TV? Didn't really care; tried it out of curiosity. Couldn't get anything to happen. Just lots of little things that you wouldn't think would make a difference in paradise. But they do. Guests in the purple house next door (same owner) said it had leaks. Fortunately none were over the beds. They were out on Sat about 10:00 am after 2 weeks of stay. Next arrivals came in at noon. Wow! That was fast cleaning! Yeah, ours wasn't that clean either. (Remember reading about the "bleach cleaning every week"? Normally that would get rid of the cobwebs and leave a clean type of smell. It didn't. Hey, it's hard to keep a beach shack clean, I get that, but they've done a good job with their PR that made me think otherwise. (Some of this info is found on owners personal website.) Local staff was friendly, responsive and trustworthy. Dolphin pen was very close to end of dock and we could watch them play and put on the show for those who paid to get inside with them. Snorkeling? Average. Murky. But what you have is almost exclusively yours. But do you want great quality? As much as I don't like the touristy area - the snorkeling within yards of the beach at West Bay was exceptional. Crowded with people, but lots of sea life. You know what it's like when you're traveling by auto and you get one of those cheap motels to spend a quick night and get back on the road the next day? So you deal with the deterioration of the room? It's like that. Do yourself a favor. Either get this for about $50 bucks a night or spend your $$ elsewhere.
