About this property
Beautiful renovated chalet near ski resort, France
Nestled in the hillside above the village of Araches, just 2 minutes drive from the ski lifts of Les Carroz in the Grand Massif with its 265kms of slopes.
This beautiful and recently renovated 19th century Savoyard farmhouse offers modern and cosy living, whilst maintaining the charm of original rustic features such as exposed beams and stonework.
The magical and peaceful location makes it ideal for holidays with family and friends during summer and winter.
The spacious chalet is laid out over three levels and 280m2. All of the rooms have their own special character, having been tastefully renovated and furnished – please enjoy the photos!
The ground floor includes a boot and ski room with programmable dryers for boots and gloves, a spacious entrance hall with plenty of storage space for jackets and ski gear, which leads to an impressive handmade staircase up to the first floor. Also on the ground floor are two bedrooms with attached bathrooms (one double, one twin), a lounge area, kitchenette and laundry room with washing machine and dryer. Whilst part of the main house, this area can also be closed off as a private apartment, with the option of a separate entrance from the terrace.
The main 50m2 living and dining area is on the first floor, which stretches the full length of the chalet, with access either end onto balconies (one covered, one open), and leads directly into the modern fully equipped kitchen (includes two fridge-freezers and dishwasher) with large central island. The dining area features antique furniture from Zanzibar, and an extendable walnut dining table that comfortably sits 14 guests. There are several comfortable seating areas, including the main lounge that also features a romantic wood burning stove and wide-screen TV (connected with UK and French channels), a collection of board games, books and information on the local area. Also on the first floor are two double bedrooms with attached bathrooms.
Upstairs are three more bedrooms (two bathrooms): one double; one twin; and, a further fun twin room just for small people – under the eaves – that kids will love (with full size single mattresses)! On the mezzanine there is a ‘kids cinema’ featuring beanbags, a flat screen TV and DVD player.
The house is set on 1,500m2 of land with a large south facing terrace that extends into a cosy sunken garden. Guests are welcome to make use of a large gas barbecue in summer.
The short private drive leads to five open parking spaces and two covered. The road and driveway are ploughed early in the mornings when there has been a major overnight snowfall.
Linen and towels are all included to make your stay more enjoyable.
From the chalet it’s just two minutes walk to an excellent traditional bakery with a small cafe, and a little further to the local ‘fromagerie’ – a working farm specializing in goats cheeses (great to visit with kids!). There is also a ski shop in the village.
The biggest supermarkets are found in Magland at the bottom of the mountain; there’s also a well-stocked smaller supermarket close to the chalet on the road towards Les Carroz.
In Les Carroz itself you will find ski shops (discount rental and shopping rates for our guests in one of the best outlets), plenty of bars and restaurants (two with Michelin stars), plus a great indoor / outdoor pool open year round with steam bath and sauna.
Beyond the outstanding skiing on well managed pistes (up to over 2,500m!), there is a wide range of fun and adventurous activities available in and around the valley, including cross-country skiing, dog sledding, snow shoeing, ice skating, skidoo safaris and ice climbing in winter.
In summer the area is a hiking and biking paradise; the Les Carroz downhill mountain bike park has become world famous, with trails for all abilities, and longer well-marked cross country itineraries. In Les Carroz there’s an impressive ‘pump track’ and skatepark.
Also in summer you can try rock climbing, acrobranche / rope course / ziplining, canyoning, trout fishing, tennis, golf, or visiting one of the many spectacular lakes in the region – to rent a boat, have a swim, or try your hand at a ‘total wipeout’ styled inflatable assault course.
Many of the major lifts across the Grand Massif run through most of July and August – carrying hikers and bikers – including from Les Carroz
