About this property

Splendid Yorkshire Getaway

The Old Cattle Barn is a part of a charming 18th century farmhouse set halfway up a steep and picturesque hillside in the peaceful Calder Valley.
The cosy space is newly renovated and designed for a perfect home away from home experience.
To the rear of the property is a direct footpath to the Pennine Bridle Way. Just a few minutes walk will immerse you in stunning panoramic views where you can take in the wild and rugged beauty of the Yorkshire moors.
You won't believe Manchester is just 25 minutes away.

We are new to Vrbo but have been welcoming guests on Airbnb for 2 years now. We are recognised as "Superhosts", accommodating 74 guests, in this time, and hold a review score of 4.96. please see some of our recent reviews at the bottom of this page.

Our wonderful surroundings

Calderdale is a walker and biker's paradise. Whether you're a roadie or a mountaineer there are endless trails and routes to explore through forests and across moors.
You won't run dry of amazing sights to see in this place with its rich history and terrain.
From the house its a 1 mile hike up to Gaddins Dam reservoir where you can take a dip at 'Britain's highest beach.'

Walk or cycle the Penine Bridle Way over to Stoodley Pike or catch a local bus to Hebden Bridge and stroll about the arty shops and cafes.
Catch a steam train to Keighley and discover the home of the Bronte sisters in the quaint town of Haworth or take a short drive or bus ride to Hardcastle Crags, The Bride Stones or one of the many local reservoirs.
If you fancy a day of shopping you can hop on the train into Manchester and indulge in the trendy delights of Britain's second largest city and still return to the quiet country retreat.

Your space
Your accommodation is the ground level of the converted barn which retains the natural features of exposed stonework and deep set windows.
Thick Yorkshire stone walls make it both a cosy retreat in the winter and cool and refreshing one in the warmer months.
The entire space is newly renovated and designed for complete convenience and comfort.
We've done a bit of globe-trotting ourselves so the decor conveys a hint of a few of our wanderlust adventures.

We - Andy, Crystal, Reuben (5) and Delancey (3) - live in the main house which is connected to the barn, however the barn is completely private with its own entrance and is yours to relax in while you are here.

Bedroom:
The double bedroom with its 'weaver's windows' has a light and spacious feeling. It features a rustic Victorian style solid Indian Rosewood bed, crisp white linen, drawers and hanging space for convenient storage.

Kitchen:
A modern kitchen, fully equipped for a self-catering stay, you'll find everything you need to whip up culinary delights if you feel so inclined.
The induction hob and dishwasher make tidying up afterwards quick and easy.
You'll also have olive oil and vinegar, salt and pepper grinders and a small selection of condiments (the last things you want to be lugging around on a weekend escape).

Breakfast:
You have the options of cafetiere or espresso machine coffee as well as Breakfast tea.
Enjoy a breakfast of fruit and nut muesli at the breakfast bar or sit by the french doors where you can take in the greenery of the valley.

If you prefer to cook your own breakfast you can take a 15/20 minute walk along a particularly beautiful section of the canal which brings you into Todmorden. Alternatively, it's a 2 minute drive.
There you'll find several artisan bakeries, a local market (Weds to Sunday) and a Morrison's supermarket.

Lounge/diner:
The lounge/diner is a beautiful, bright room that is open plan with the kitchen.
It features a 52 inch TV with ability to connect to your Amazon/Netflix account so you can relax in homely comfort if you're not out for the evening.
Alternatively you can browse the bookshelf and curl up on the very comfortable sofa that converts to a full size double bed for the convenience of 2 extra guests to sleep.
Fibre-optic broadband also presents the possibility to use the room as the ideal calm, getaway work space.

Bathroom:
Having been out enjoying the spectacular countryside, be that hiking, running, cycling or mountain-biking there is nothing more you will appreciate than refreshing yourself under the relaxing rainfall shower.

Please note: In the interest of allergy sufferers we do not allow pets at the property. Apologies for the disappointment.

Other things to note
There are no laundry washing/drying facilities in the accommodation, however we are happy to do some washing for you if needed. Just pop it in the laundry bag provided and send us a message.

Getting around:
There are frequent buses to the neighboring towns from the bus stop a minute's walk from the house, either direction.

The train station is a 5 minute walk from here.
It's a 25 minute journey into Manchester, 20 mins to Halifax and Leeds is about 50 minutes away.

Manchester International airport is about a 45 minute drive or a 40 minute train journey.

You don't need a car around here but it helps if you like the convenience of private transport and there are some stunning country roads taking you to incredible heights and views that you might not otherwise experience.

Todmorden is a relaxed and bohemian little town with a rich history and a compassionate heart of gold.
It boasts a truly wonderful selection of pubs and restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines that also offer delivery.
Tod's iconic Golden Lion pub and music venue is a major community hub and an unmissable experience.

The accommodation is clean, comfortable and stylishly decorated. Although our stay was over a very wet and windy weekend, it was warm and cosy in the apartment. Tod town centre is within a 20 minute walk. Walsden station, which provides connections to both Manchester and Leeds. Crystal was friendly and approachable and quick to respond to any questions we raised before and during our visit. We look forward to returning. Thomas

Crystal and Andy's place is really comfortable and pleasant, surrounded by some beautiful scenery. We stayed for a couple of nights in January traveling to a funeral in the area. Having lost a family member, my partner and I were both quite rattled and our hosts were super kind and understanding, happy to do everything contact free (when I got the feeling they usually give a big, warm welcome!), communicated really well and were all-round great hosts. The apartment was a very nice size, with a well equipped kitchen adjoining a comfortable living room - the big double doors on one end would definitely be great on sunny days! The bedroom was good and comfortable, and all you needed for a relaxing stay. We didn't have much of a chance to explore the surrounds, but did make one short stroll up the path behind the farm to the top of the hill and it was beautiful - it's incredible how you go from being in the village to what feels like proper wilderness almost instantaneously. I'm looking forward to hopefully visiting again under different circumstances so I can properly explore. Thanks for a lovely stay, Crystal & Andy! Simon
