The History of Turtle Mound

Turtle Mound is an ancient archaeological site managed by the National Park Service as part of the Canaveral National Seashore. The turtle shaped mound, comprised of oysters and refuse from the prehistoric Timucuan people, measures 50 feet high and 600 feet long and is the largest shell midden in the mainland United States. Added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1970, the mound can be seen from as far as seven miles out at sea, and was used as a landmark by early Spanish explorers and succeeding sailors. Archeologists have dated Turtle Mound to around 1000 BCE.

Had the pleasure of staying at the beach front property of turtle mound. View is gorgeous with a huge balcony for a condo. Sliding glass doors continue to provide a lovely view of the beach from the inside living and dining area. Parking is private and ample. Property was well maintained and plenty of amenities are provided within. Location was very quiet and a convenient drive to restaurants. Definitely recommend!

Perfect location to beach and intercoastal

We were so happy when we walked in the door of this quaint corner unit condo. The modern tropical decor was perfect and the views were splendid. This condo is located on the no drive beach and just steps away from the beach and complex's pool. It is also within walking distance to the intercoastal and the famous JB's fish camp. This place has it all and only a 10 minute drive to Flagler. We will definitely stay here again!

We truly enjoyed our stay at Chamdam by the Sea. I wanted a beautiful view and I got one. My only concern it was rather dated, we had lighting issues and curtain issues but maintenance was great. The master bath needs a new shower head, better ventilation and even a tub. But, I would do it again!

My teenagers would say “It’s fine”. The condo met our needs as a place to get away for thanksgiving. The linens, furniture, and kitchen items are fine but could be freshened up. Location is good. Parking is good. Pool is good but not heated.

Great location

We chose this unit because of the location & the fact that it is animal friendly. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We did have a few issues but the owner resolved them in a timely manner. This unit is very small so I wouldn’t recommend it for long term stay. There is no storage for groceries. The insulation to the building is very thin. When there was a renter upstairs, it sounded like they were coming through the ceiling. I would recommend this unit for short-term rental. The management team was always very nice & quick to respond.

No longer a full ocean view!

Super disappointed that we were not told about the hurricane damage to the beach access points, or to expect construction work of the house next door and directly in front of the condo, which resulted in constant beeping from contractors lift every morning by 8am, semi truck delivery (before dawn) at 6am Saturday morning, and the fact that a new 3-story house have been constructed directly in front of the condo, which blocks over 70% of the full ocean view shown in your photos. To top it off, after several calls and texts we couldn’t get a maintenance person to come out for the simple task of replacing a lightbulb that was out of our reach in the 9-foot ceiling. Wish there would have been more upfront and honest communication regarding the property surroundings…

Beach Vacation

Lovely area! We were looking for a peaceful area to visit that had beach, a place to ride bikes, run and walk and this was the perfect location. Our accommodations were adequate. The kitchen is quite small but had everything we needed. There also wasn’t much space for food storage but the condo is centrally located to several grocery stores so we just bought enough to get through a couple days at a time. Worthy of mentioning that there is now a new building located directly in front and therefore limits the view of the ocean somewhat, but not that big of a deal, just worthy of mentioning since photos are not current photos. The pool was lovely and I thought the grounds were kept tidy and it appeared that there would be new plants incorporated in the landscaping! There was also construction on the two of the boardwalks in front of the condo so we were only able to access the beach at the public park location. Sunrises on the Atlantic and sunsets on the Intracoastal were lovely! It was mating season for the manatees while we were there so we rented kayaks from JB’s and were able to see many manatees and dolphins playing in the water. Condo was fine. Had all we needed. Master bedroom fan was very wobbly and noisy, and the pillows weren’t the best…other than that, we had a lovely stay and would love to return again!

I have stayed at many of your condos before, but I must say this one did not meet our expectations. I was not informed that another building was located directly in front of ours, with windows looking into our unit. This forced us to keep the curtains closed the entire time, leaving us with zero privacy, as six windows faced ours directly.Additionally, when we arrived, the floor was dirty, and there were bugs in the corner. I had to wash the floor and vacuum it immediately upon arrival. The bathroom rugs looked disgusting, so I washed them right away, along with the small rug that led out to the porch. I was hesitant to put my feet on them! If that was not bad enough, when I went to pull out a baking sheet, there was a glue trap with a roach stuck to it on the pan ( Gross)!The TVs had two remotes each and were not user-friendly; I can't imagine an older couple being able to figure them out. The silverware felt flimsy, and everything in the unit was extremely outdated. The kitchen was not fully equipped, as I had to cut bread with a knife that seemed more appropriate for steak at best.Furthermore, I was not provided with any dishwasher detergent, and there was only a small amount of dish soap in the sink. This meant I had to go out immediately to purchase more. Overall, my experience did not meet the standards I have come to expect.

We recently vacationed in Ocean Club at Turtle Mound unit 101. We’ve been to NSB many times. This is the smallest unit we’ve rented (about 800 SF per the listing), but it was sufficient for the two of us and our small dog. This unit has an additional half bath, whereas other units listed have only one bath. The unit was very clean, nicely furnished and adequately stocked. There are several beach chairs and boogie boards for use. We had some concerns about being so close to the public park in mid-July but easily found our own spot on the beach. We loaded our beach cart and walked to beach ramp in about two minutes – very convenient! The kitchen is quite small, so anyone wanting to do much cooking might find it limiting. There are 28 steps up to the unit and no elevator (as listed). Parking underneath is very convenient. While we didn’t go in the pool, the pool area and restrooms are nicely maintained. Since this unit is on the north corner, I think we had a better view from the balcony than other units. We at least had a partial ocean view, which was nice. Overall, we would consider staying here again.
