Doonbeg is a charming small traditional village in West Clare. It got its name from the Irish, Dun Beag which means little fort as the village grew up around Doonbeg Castle. Doonbeg is a wonderful base for touring County Clare as it is just 10km from Kilkee with its golden sandy beach and is also within easy driving distance of other popular tourist towns of Lahinch (30km), Liscannor, Ennis, Lisdoonvarna and Doolin in Clare. It is easily accessible by road from Ennis or by the Ferry between Tarbert in North Kerry and Killimer in County Clare.
