The property is lovely. The setting is the Hood Canal. There were seals at play, bald eagles giving their young instructions, and wonderful sun and moon risings. The kitchen is complete and the beds are comfortable.

Overall the vacation rental was pretty good. The host was very responsive and the house was clean. The views were excellent and even though the house is pretty close to the road the way it sat down cut out most of the road noise and when sitting on the back deck it was almost completely blocked out. The driveway is a little tricky and tight and you can only enter when traveling South on the road. My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay.

If there was a way to give 10 stars for this place, I would do it. Do not hesitate to rent this Vrbo. Our family does a lot of Vrbo’s and it was definitely one of the best if not the best. And it was like being in a national geographic show watching the wildlife that was beautiful beyond words. Plus, kayaks and everything you could possibly think of to enjoy the Olympic Peninsula was provided. Our whole family has decided to hopefully make an annual trip to the Balsch house.

The home was absolutely beautiful. From the minute we walked in through the kitchen door till the moment we left we could not stop talking about the view and the wildlife you could see from the home. It was a wonderful experience and we would love to book again for a much longer stay next summer. Every possible kitchen item you could think of needing, is provided. The house is wonderfully stocked. Fishing rods, life vests, umbrellas, you want for nothing. It’s like coming home and knowing everything is taken care of.

We had such a great time at Suzanne's lovely house!! The house itself has so much charm and character. The kitchen was one of the best stocked kitchens we've encountered in a vacation rental. We absolutely loved the location and the views from the house, both inside and out. With the mouth of the river right out back it made wildlife watching so much more interesting. There were so many seals and bald eagles. We also really enjoyed taking the kayaks out. Suzanne was great to communicate with and it is clear she has taken a lot of care to provide a great stay for her guests. We definitely hope to be back!

Was a great stay. Loved the historic home and the location is great for heading out exploring the nearby state parks, Mt Walker viewpoint and also the Olympic National Park. Was fun to spend time kayaking and just hanging out on the back porch. Would definitely stay again.

Family of 5 loved our stay would definitely rent again. The house is charming and had plenty of space. We cooked dinner every night and kitchen had everything you could want. (Grocery shopping on the way in worked out well, as nearby options are limited.) House was clean and everything was working well and in good shape. Amazing views from everywhere in the house (including the tub). Water is calm and great for exploring by kayak. Enjoyed short hikes at Murhut Falls, Falls Canyon Trail, and Donkey Steam Loop. Enjoyed lunch at Hama Hama so much we went a second time. Everyone also became fans of the coffee options at Catkin.

Absolutely magical setting. The house is quirky in a very charming way. It is well equipped, there was nothing that we needed that we couldn’t find. Host was responsive to the couple little things we needed help with. We booked hoping to have a fairy tale type of holiday, and the place did not disappoint. The kayaks were our kids favorite touch. The tidal flats/river mouth at the bottom of the stairs was teeming with wildlife. The luxurious upstairs bathtub with majestic views of the hood canal was the grownups favorite. Extremely happy with this place.

This place was beyond amazing and exceeded all expectations. The view was epic, the wildlife was spectacular. The home was charming and well stocked with anything you could possibly need. We used the kayaks multiple times and enjoyed sitting out on the deck to watch the seals and otters. We will remember this trip for the rest of our lives, by far one of our favorite experiences.

We had a very nice stay and the house was great. The kitchen has everything you could need, the beds are comfortable, the views from the porch lovely and relaxing. My only caveat would be to say that it is far from other parts of the peninsula that you may wish to see, such as Hoh Rain Forest and Rialto Beach, and it’s a long way to a full-service grocery store. Plan ahead and stock up on your way in! If you’re just looking for a quiet place to relax, and don’t intend to do much sight-seeing it is perfect.

We really enjoyed our stay! The views were amazing -- we spent our mornings watching the seals swim around, and were treated to a pair of bald eagles one afternoon. The house was quite charming. The entire region had lots to offer, including some fun hikes with beautiful scenery. Suzanne was very attentive to any questions we raised.

Great place to stay! The views were beautiful. The house was so charming with lots of quality decor. A good mix of antique and modern. The main floor and upstairs bedrooms were perfect-- comfortable and clean. The down stairs bedroom was a little more rustic (because of the age of the home) but still clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

The house felt like happy people lived there for a century. It is very well loved and cared for, with a stunning view and gardens. It was cozy and elegant, and we loved learning about the house's family. We loved being on the water, and feet from Doswallips State Park where we took walks, and enjoyed the river, and lookout points, and hikes. The town is small and friendly. We enjoyed everything about our stay. We just wish we could have stayed longer. It was a breathtaking beautiful place. I actually got to wade around in proximity to a bunch of seals who seemed annoyed but not too bothered by my presence. They also provided binoculars at the house. We spent hours watching wildlife. I did not look at my phone, a computer, or a t.v. once. I didn't miss it. In fact, I feel like I've been reminded that the life around me can be far more enriching than what is on a screen.
