Cottage 25 sqm on archipelago island

At the northern tip of Svartsö, between Träskö Storöfjärden and Ingmarsö and not far from Finnhamn, you will find Gistholmen. Pack your bags, forget all the must-haves and prepare for a break. Your holiday starts right at Strömkajen.

There are 21 cottages at Gistholmen: the large cottages, the small cottages and the Caretaker's Cottage. All cottages have their own unique view. One is located on a cliff, another closest to the meadow. One is located in the forest, another by the archipelago jetty. If you have a favourite cottage that feels more like home than any other, you can of course book it, subject to availability. We guarantee that all cottages have their own charm!


There are 18 large cottages on the island. They are 25 square metres each and can accommodate four people. These have a divisible 160-bed, a sofa bed for two people and a small kitchen with hotplates, microwave and fridge. There is also a private toilet and shower, as well as a veranda where you can drink your morning coffee. The cottages are self-catering, final cleaning and bed linen can be purchased for a fee.

Forest Escape

Gistholmen is a secluded, forested island with a beautiful view and is well-connected to ferries to the larger Archipelago islands. The cabins have a grown-up camp feel.

Beautiful island getaway

Absolutely gorgeous and well kept island. So much to explore and a great place to relax and take in all the nature. The cabin was comfortable and clean. There was a discrepancy with the listing but the host was very responsive and did a great job resolving the matter!! If you’re looking to get away from the city for a few days, this is the place to go! Amazing sunsets!

Wonderful cabin on private island

Our time on Gistholmen was FANTASTIC! However, it started with the hiccup of the VRBO description being on the wrong island (it is NOT on Ingmarsö Södra, an 8 minute walk from the ferry dock as the description is or at least was, hopefully that gets updated!). It is on Gistholmen that you need to take the Waxholmsbolaget ferry to (no need to book ahead, but depending on the day and season there might only be two potential drop-off and pick-up times). Our lovely host offered to refund our money, but we jumped through the hoops and got there and absolutely loved our time there in the sweetest cabin, rowing around the islands and spending evenings in the superb sauna.
