The sandy, high-quality beaches in Alum Chine are among the best. Alum Chine beach is hugely popular with families due to a pirate-themed large adventure playground, toilets with baby changing facilities, RNLI lifeguard stations, pubs and ice cream kiosks. Alum Chine is home to a beautiful Tropical Garden which is situated to the rear of the beach just into Alum Chine and immediately above the play ground. The land train runs along the Promenade seasonally, from close by the bus terminus at the foot of the Chine, to Bournemouth Pier and to Boscombe Pier beyond. Seasonal open top buses will take you into Bournemouth and Poole - so let the breeze run through your hair! Just a short walk along the Promenade in the direction of Poole is Branksome Chine which offers yet more sea, sand and sunshine. Bournemouth centre itself is only a short drive away and offers high street shops, theatres, an Odeon cinema and restaurant complex known as BH2, other restaurants, bars and entertainment for the whole family.

Bournemouth lies to the east of the county and offers seven miles of blue flag beaches. It is near the market town of Christchurch with its 11th century Priory Church, ruined castle and Saxon mill, and the stunning medieval New Forest. The area caters for diverse interests, the popular buzzing beach resort in Bournemouth with its vibrant nightlife; the gentler pursuits of walking, wildlife and bird-watching in the nature reserves and national parks, and along the 20 miles of Bournemouth Coast footpath; and active pursuits such as cycling, sailing, rowing, canoeing, windsurfing, kite-surfing and sea kayaking. Popular also for touring, Southampton, the Isle of Wight, Salisbury and Stonehenge are all within reasonable travelling distance. Dorset features some excellent museums, with world leading centres at Bovington (The Tank Museum, telling the history of military vehicles), and the Russell Cotes Museum and Art Gallery in Bournemouth.
