Great family vaca

This house is set up with everything you need to have a wonderful family vacation in Michigan. We loved the two houses , the gourmet kitchen with all the plates, utensils and cookware, even an ice maker! The deck was perfect and bug free even in the midst of the lovely trees. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach and the bakery. A fun week!

Family Vacation 2025

We vacationed with 12 adults, 3 children, and 2 Labradors and house was great for all! Beach was a 2 min walk with great steps for access. Elderly parents were able to enjoy the beach as well for this reason. Yard was completely fenced in for dogs which was unexpected and FANTASTIC! Living room, dining, and kitchen were one large gathering area that fit us all in the evenings comfortably. Warren Dunes were a 6 min easy drive and the Swedish Bakery on the corner was superb! We had a great week coming together in one home!!

Outstanding Space and Location.

This home was a jewel for our 8 adults and 7 children ! Tons of space inside and out for gathering together, meals or for a quiet spot to read. The grounds were beautiful, shady, interesting and spacious. We have never stayed at a Vrbo with such kitchen and laundry amenities including, 2 ovens, 6 burner gas stove, microwave, commercialice maker, and ever kind of plate, glasses, utensils, pots and pans to cook whatever you like. The walk to the beach is a breeze. The beach is beautiful with soft white sand and clear water. Close to grocery, markets and Warren Dunes SP. New Buffalo and St. Joe are a short drive. If you want a great family stay, this is the place.

Family vacation

Ideal location for a family vacation. Nestled in the woods with lots of wildlife to see. Marked hiking trails in the woods. It was a five minute walk to the beach for swimming and playing in the sand. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need to cook and serve meals for a group.

The Perfect Getaway

Great Location

We gathered for a family reunion, and we needed to sleep 12 people. The size of the house plus guest house was just right. An easy walk to the beach - it was so close! We enjoyed the hot tub, the grill, and the fire pit. We had other family members scattered about in cottages in Harbert Woods and the Prairie Club, and we were able to walk everywhere to meet up with them. Very well located for us to enjoy all our favorite shops and restaurants.

Perfect location and amenities

Our second year having a group get-away here and it was even better than the first! Very well-equipped kitchen, cozy great room, comfy beds and a steaming hot tub. Owner is quick to respond, helpful and friendly. Fantastic!

Family vacation

We loved the location - it was so nice to walk to the beach easily! We were with our kids and their kids (5 who were 5, 4, 3, almost 2 and 1). We had plenty of room and the kitchen had everything you would need. We had a couple of rainy days but we enjoyed visits to the library and the children's museum. We would definitely return!

Great getaway for a large group!

We stayed at the Harbert house for our wedding anniversary along with our kids and grand kids! The house is a beautiful escape. The decor adds to that feeling of escape. We loved so much about this house; the ability to cook together in the well stocked kitchen, the privacy and comfort of the bedrooms and the perfect setting in the woods. Our time there has made some very special memories! We thank the owners for sharing their beautiful home!

Best weekend with friends

We had an incredible stay with our 11 friends and two kids. Perfect kitchen to cook and feed all of us. Quick walk to the beach and amazing hot tub at night. Neighbors far enough away to not have to worry to much about noise and in a perfect location. Thank you so much it was beyond perfect

Great Family Gathering

We recently had an extended family get-away with our entire family. Everything was perfect! Harbert House met the needs of infants, toddlers, teens and adults. The beach was super easy to walk to and was gorgeous. The property itself was wonderful as well, and we enjoyed everything from the wooded setting to the hot tub to the fire pit to the outdoor dining. Great host with lots of recommendations for the area. Highly recommend!

Artfully designed mansion in the woods

We rented the Hobart house for a gathering of old friends and loved everything about it- the location was ideal for people traveling from Chicago and Detroit. The layout of the house is perfect for large groups, with a well appointed kitchen at the center that faces the living room and dining area. We spent three days together hanging out, going for walks, cooking, and playing board games. The interior design of the house is delightful, the space is cozy yet large, with interesting art and furniture. Bedrooms were very comfortable and each one manages to have a nice view while feeling private. Our group loved the nearby trails and a few of us tried the hot tub, but we barely took advantage of the lovely outdoor spaces because it was winter. We all agreed that we’d love to come back! What a magical weekend.

Family vacay

Harbert House was a wonderful place for our 3 generation family, ranging from 68 to 2 years. The walk to the beach was easy going down to the lake. Three flights of stairs coming back up took a little bit, but it was well worth the effort to enjoy the beautiful, clean beach and fun water play. The owners were very accommodating, concerned and helpful bringing a lantern and flashlights when we had a storm resulting in a power outage for 36 hours. We would love to enjoy this property again in the future!!!

Spacious house, great outdoor space

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at this property for a girls weekend. Everyone had a comfortable place to sleep. We had plenty of supplies for cooking and did not go without anything we needed. The property owner/manager was great with communication and lots of suggestions and instructions for things around the house! Nice quiet neighborhood and truly is just STEPS from the beach which is also beautiful!

Family Vacation 2024

Property was great! Fit the needs of our family well. Very close to the beach, which was so great. The home felt very comfortable, well decorated and cozy. Kitchen was very well stocked with all tools needed for cooking meals for a large group. Only bit of “criticism” we had was the home could use a deep clean. Pillows in some of the rooms could be replaced as they don’t have much life left to them. You can see this is a well loved property and needs a bit of a refresh as far as wear and tear. Overall, the stay was fantastic and the owners We’re communicative and quick to respond. Would definitely refer the Harbert Home and Guest House to others!

Great house. Great location.

Spacious and attractive houses and property. 2 minute walk to beach makes it very convenient for large family group including small children. Everybody can come and go from the beach on their own schedule. Hot tub after beach day is great. Large Outdoor sitting and dining area gave us plenty of room to enjoy being together but not on top of each other. We have several cooks in the the family and the kitchen is very well-equipped and easy to work in. This is our second year at this property and we will be back next year too!

Wonderful vacation!

The house is in a great location just a couple of minutes walk from the beach, so it was very convenient with small children. No cars/car seats to hassle with. Large and attractive home with guest house. Well-equipped kitchen with high quality pans, knives, appliances, etc. Comfortable beds. Plenty of towels--both bath and beach--for everyone. Hot tub was wonderful after the beach. Owners are great to deal with, and we would definitely return!

Harbert Haven!

What a beautiful home and guest house. It was perfect for our family’s needs. We had 10 adults, a toddler and a baby. When we had questions after we arrived, the hosts were very quick to respond, which we appreciated. Because our evenings were a bit humid we didn’t take advantage of the lovely hot tub. It was nice to have the outdoor shower, though, to rinse off the excess sand brought back from the beach. Having two washers and dryers was a huge blessing, as well. We would love to return to this beautiful property in the future.

The pictures need to be updated

The kitchen was stocked great! We loved the outdoor space and hot tub. The pics on the website are outdated. The decor is "dark". A lighter color of paint would do wonders. Also, some of the antiques made the upstairs smell musty. The rug is frayed in upstairs bedroom, which made a tripping hazard in the dark. I almost fell twice getting up at night. It needs attention.

Lovely vacation home

We are a geographically widely dispersed family and Harbert posed the perfect solution to our gathering dilemma – how to come together, without anyone having to fly, especially with infants? Proximity to the beach, lots of beach chairs and towels on property, fun outings nearby and many restaurants and fresh markets with a variety of food options, made for an easy week. There are just a few gaps that might be filled — like a collection of board games/puzzles, better lighting (the house is in the woods and despite many windows is quite dark), and more pillows for sagging couches. Overall, however, the house is capacious and comfortable, and the owners have thought through many details, including one of the best equipped kitchens we’ve ever rented!
