Ma'alaea Surf, Unit A2 is a conveniently located ground floor condo, with central AC just steps from the beach. This luxurious unit features a fully furnished kitchen, living and dining room and dining table. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed. The large living room has expansive views, Wi-Fi and a flat screen TV. Enjoy the amazing ocean views and Maui's colorful sunsets from your spacious private patio (lanai). The maximum occupancy allowed in this unit is two. All units at Ma'alaea Surf are non-smoking. The resort has two pools, tennis and pickleball courts, washer/dryers onsite and convenient parking is included.

Our property is NOT impacted by the recent news regarding potential short-term rental (STR) restrictions in Maui. Because we are zoned as a hotel property, we are exempt from the County of Maui's proposed STR regulations.

Malea(rental manager), husband, and friend moved our luggage and my wife over flood gate to condo A2, directed me to parking, and to condo. We couldn’t have done it by ourselves. Above and beyond the call of duty.Our second year in A2. Terrific condo, sixty feet from ocean, and one hundred eighty degree view of Pacific across Maalaea Harbor.Highly recommend.

Good, "old fashioned" beachfront rental

I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Ma'alaea condos are situated right on the beach, the surf no more than 60 feet away! This is really unusual and delightful. They have a pool, that we never used... the Pacific Ocean is literally 60 feet away, although the sandy bottom provides little incentive for fish and other creatures to congregate. For that you have to go elsewhere. The condo is nicely situated in a fairly quiet neighborhood, with a first-class local bakery within walking distance. Restaurants are a bit further away, but that is quite OK. Long walks on the beach can get you to such places, or drive; Kihei is full of good and interesting eating-places, no more than 10 minutes from the Condo.The Condo is in itself, a bit "old Fashioned", although nothing essential was missing; the bed was good, the water hot enough, the TV a tad small, but well insulated both in terms of temperature and noise, and with a view "to die for". It simply does not get any better than that!The one thing we found missing was an opportunity to charge our electric rental car, i.e. "old fashioned". We heard that some other condo complexes do provide 110 V outlets that the charger in the car could have used. Not so at the Ma'alaea resort. An on-site manager actually came out to chastise me that I was attempting to find a "hot" outlet. We had the note displayed, approving our parking privileges, so there was nothing circumspect about what we were doing. No level II charger is needed, but due to the lack of public chargers on Maui, the level I charge could have done all kinds of good.Would I recommend the place to friends and or family? Absolutely, but I would also recommend that they go "old fashioned" and rent an internal combustion car.

An enjoyable stay at our favorite resort on Maui.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We've visited Maalaea Surf Resort several times during the last five years. We like the resort's location at an uncrowded, very walkable and extensive beach, it's low density architecture and good landscaping. We had previously stayed at units C4 and mostly H2, which we liked very much. We generally enjoyed our last stay at unit A2, esp. it's beachfront setting. But unlike H2, it did have an unpleasant moldy odor, which persisted even with strong cross ventilation. We suspect that it came from the carpets covering most of the floor. We would also suggest to improve the lighting for better reading, next to the sofa. The tagging with reminders was a bit overdone, and for our taste the unit was somewhat overdecorated. But everything considered, we would recommend it to friends.

The condo was updated with some new furnishings since the last time we were here. Management is very responsive and helpful. The price has increased significantly, which I understand given the economy and recent flooding to the units. However, I was surprised that the price per night of this one bedroom unit was the same as the two bedroom unit next door.

Pool was dirty and unusable for week we were there. Pool lounge chairs very basic. Actual rental unit was fair. Small ants were throughout bathroom all week. LOTS of rules and directions posted prominently throughout condo. Boardroom right very stained and dirty. Sofa and bed uncomfortable. We went to Target and bought sheets. Nice new floor in main area. Again- go for amazing walk out to ocean lanai.

We decided to stay in Kihei due to the convenient location (45 mins max drive to any major tourist destination). The only downfall of this place is that there aren’t many restaurants and attractions within walking distance. Also the washer/dryer situation was an issue in multiple buildings but still happy to have onsite laundry. That’s definitely the trade off for being right on the beach for an affordable price. Met the owner and/or building manager (Lydia) on the last day and she was super nice. We really appreciated the late checkout due to our very late flight. Thank you!

So we booked again for this Dec, and everything was awesome again ! Great location, just steps from the beach and sometimes seems like our own private beach. The condo and amenities are everything you need and more. We love to stay in some nights and cook nice dinners vs eating out every night. We are not “high rise” hotel people, so this condo works perfect ! We tried to find flaws but could not.

GOOD

Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay while we came to Maui to get married. The view here was unparalleled. We would come back from wedding errands and just relax in front of the beach. We were always able to easily contact the site manager no matter what time of day it was. The kitchen and unit was fully equipped with everything we needed. The only cons was no beach equipment (though you can request at the front office for beach chairs and an umbrella) and no laundry in the unit itself. BEWARE: THE DAMAGE DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
