Old Duffus Farmhouse on Scottish Estate - stunning castle views
Old Duffus Farmhouse, sleeping 8, is a traditional stone farmhouse on family run Duffus Estate and is just 5 miles from Elgin. This spacious yet homely property is ideal for families or larger groups. It is surrounded by fields with unrivalled views directly across to the ruins of Duffus Castle - an ideal place to retreat and relax. Just imagine a stroll through castle ruins whilst the sun sets across fields of golden barley or a sunny evening bbq or fire pit with a killer castle view! 3 of the 4 bedrooms and the living room all have unbeatable, south facing views of Duffus Castle which makes this a truly unique place to stay.
You enter via a large porch which is great for storing boots, coats, golf clubs and other outdoor kit.
The two generously proportioned, double bedrooms (both with king sized double beds) are situated on the ground floor, along with both of the bathrooms, therefore making it easier for those with more limited mobility. The bathrooms have been renovated to a high standard - each has a walk in shower and the larger bathroom also boasts a beautiful roll top bath.
The two twin bedrooms are located on the first floor, along with a wee snug. The snug is an ideal room for children/teens. It also has a desk so is good for those who may need to shut themselves away to work.
The large, bright sitting room with a wood burning stove for cosy nights in. We provide complimentary logs from the Estate for the stove and the fire bowl outside.
The farm house kitchen has a big central table seating 8 - perfect for those long, lazy dinners with family or friends. It is fully equipped so ideal for those who like to cook when they are away. There is a separate utility room with plenty of space to dry laundry.
The grassed, south facing garden also benefits from views of Duffus Castle. It has seating for 8, BBQ and a fire pit.
Please note, Old Duffus Farmhouse is situated beside some barns which are still occasionally used by the local farmer so the odd tractor may pass by the house.
We welcome up to 2 dogs - there are lots of lovely dog walks in the area, including exploring the ruins of Duffus Castle on your door step to the miles of quiet sandy beaches along the nearby Moray Firth.

About the host
Hosted by Caroline Dunbar
Hi, I'm Caroline. I am originally from York but have lived in Scotland over half my life. My husband, Ed, and I moved up to Moray from Edinburgh to run Duffus Estate in 2013. Duffus Estate is Ed's historic family Estate - his family have been here since the late 1600's. We have spent the past 12 years diversifying the Estate and now run 6 holiday lets, as well as our outdoor cafe, Kula Coffee Hut, which is situated at the foot of Duffus Castle. The Estate also comprises 4 farms, some residential lets and also a campsite (opening 2025). There are plenty of trails around the Estate grounds for our guests to explore during their stay. Ed and I both love the outdoors and spend a lot of time enjoying what our local area has to offer - running, biking, SUP-ing, sea swimming and coastal rowing to name a few. A typical weekend might involve something active followed by cooking sausages over an open fire on the beach with friends. I love welcoming guests to the Estate giving them hints and tips of how best to enjoy our wee corner of Moray.
Why they chose this property
We are blessed to live so close to an amazing coastline but also have access to the Cairngorms less than an hour's drive away. We have miles of unspoilt, quiet sandy beaches, less than 3 miles away. Sailing, SUP, sea swimming, fishing trips, dolphin spotting trips or simply just relaxing on the sand is all easily accessible from Duffus. We share the Estate with a host of local wildlife and see red squirrels, roe deer and hare almost daily.
What makes this property unique
Old Duffus Farmhouse has the most stunning southerly views across to the ruins of Duffus Castle. 3 of the 4 bedrooms and the living room, as well as the garden, all look across a field straight towards the castle. The castle is free to visit and children and adults alike will love exploring the striking ruins and picturing what life was like all those years ago! The light at the castle at sunrise and sunset is particularly spectacular and makes Old Duffus Farmhouse a truly unique venue for your holiday.
