About this property
Cozy 5 BR 4BA Cabin Pool Table Game Rm 2.5 Acs BBQ Dogs On Way to Grand Canyon
The cabin sits on 2.5 forested acres. It is secluded but close enough for Door Dash: privacy with convenience. The main cabin is casual, cozy and relaxing, featuring four bedrooms (two of which have en suite bathrooms) and outdoor decks on all sides. The nearby separate studio apartment accommodates two people and is included in the rental. Loads of parking for cars, trucks and trailers.
The cabin has two separate areas: one upstairs and one downstairs. Upstairs are a great room, including an eating area, with a vaulted ceiling, a powder room, a primary bedroom with ensuite bath and the kitchen.
On either side of the great room are two alcoves, one a television viewing area and the other a library or children’s play room, stocked with adult and kids' games and toys and its own tv. In the middle of the great room is a wood-burning cast iron stove. Just off the television alcove is the powder room. There are 2 tvs upstairs (one in the living room and one in the kids' game room), there re 3 tvs downstairs (one in the pool room and one in the second primary and in one of the other bedrooms) and there is one in the studio. All of the tvs except the one in the studio (which only has internet), have cable.
All decks are accessed from the second floor. The upstairs primary bedroom has an outside door opening onto the west deck. On the back (north) deck guests will find a patio table with an awning and six chairs. On the upper level of that deck is a Weber propane grill. The other three decks feature an assortment of patio tables and chairs, suitable for enjoying the views and the ambiance. During the spring, summer and fall there is a corn hole game on the western deck.
The kitchen features granite countertops, a small pantry, a large pantry, a wine cooler and new (as of October, 2022) stainless-steel range, dishwasher and refrigerator. The small appliances include two toasters, an electric tea kettle, a rice maker, a blender, an ice maker, a Fagor instant pot and a crock pot. There is a large microwave oven and a full assortment of cooking utensils, pots, pans and two dutch ovens. For the coffee lover, there is a Baratza Virtuozo burr grinder, a drip coffee maker, an espresso machine, and various Melitta filters and French press pots. There are Keurig coffee makers on both floors.
Downstairs there is a second primary bedroom, featuring a king-sized bed with an adjoining bath, a tv and a gas fireplace. Across from this room is a third bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a TV set, and an electric fireplace fashioned to look like a cast-iron stove. The third bedroom has access to the full bath next to the downstairs primary bedroom. Also at this end of the ground floor is the utility room, with a washer and dryer. The lower floor also offers a game room, featuring a full-size pool table, a compact refrigerator and a television set. On the other side of the pool room is a fourth bedroom furnished with two full-sized beds. Across the hall from that is another full bath. At the end of the hall is a mud room that opens directly outdoors onto parking spaces.
There is a two-car garage in the same building as the studio apartment which is about 70 feet from the main house. The garage contains a Charge Point Flex 50-amp, 240-volt hard-wired electric vehicle charger with a 23-foot cable. This charger is available for use by guests who download the Charge Point app to their smart phones.
In addition to the garage, the property offers parking for approximately 8 to 10 other vehicles. There are two outdoor cameras on the property, one on the main house, covering the back yard and one 70 feet away, on the garage, facing the parking areas.
The cabin is the perfect place to get out of the city and relax in nature or to use as a base for all the adventures Flagstaff has to offer. The setup is perfect for a couple, a family, a family with grandparents or adult children and/or kids. It also works well for a group of unrelated individuals. There is a big closet in the pool room with a full-size crib and a porta crib in the closet of the upstairs bedroom. They can be moved anywhere in the house. A highchair is in the entry closet upstairs. The house can accommodate up to 10 persons and the studio accommodates 2.
The studio attached to the garage. The studio has its own kitchenette, with a stove, sink and refrigerator, and its own ¾ bath. It is furnished with a queen-size sleeper couch, a desk, a printer, an office chair and an internet-connected television set. It also has a Keurig coffee maker. While the studio is a great office or an extra bedroom for adults, because it is some 70 feet from the main house, it is not appropriate for children by themselves -- although teenagers can use it to watch TV and get away from adults. The studio can accommodate two more adults and is included in the rental.
Every room has internet connectivity and every bedroom has a USB charging station for phones and laptops. It is in the forest so there are pine cones and pine needles on the property depending upon the time of year. We try to keep the house stacked with necessary supplies, but it is a cabin in the woods and it is a family cabin. We use it with our family including children, grandchildren and friends. We treat it as a cabin and hope you will too. We love it but it not perfect and it is an ongoing process. We try to improve it every year. It great for getting out of the heat and exploring all the great places this part of the country and state has to offer. It is in the forrest so there may be deer, coyotes, many birds, squirrels and other animals (including an occasional bug) on the property.
Recreation lies right outside the front door. One neighbor raises chickens and goats and another has horses, all of which delight small children. For hikers and mountain bikers, some 400 yards up Magdalena is a private neighborhood entrance to Fort Valley Trail system of the Coconino National Forest. (Because this connects with the Arizona Trail, one can literally walk from here to Utah or to Mexico.). By walking down Magdalena in the other direction and crossing US 180 one can easily access the Flagstaff Urban Trails System (“FUTS”) via the Karen Cooper Trail at Peak View Road. The Karen Cooper Trail runs along the Rio De Flag all the way to downtown. It is largely level (with one easy grade) and has a good surface.
Other recreational activities abound. Thousands of acres of National Forest surround Flagstaff. From our house it is a 10-minute drive to the shopping, entertainment, and restaurants in Historic Downtown. NAU lies just beyond. The Museum of Northern Arizona and the Flagstaff Pioneer Museum are two minutes away. The Grand Canyon is only 76 miles up US 180 and it takes only 40 minutes to get to Bearizona in Williams. Sedona, with its restaurants, galleries, hiking, mountain biking and stunning views is about an hour away, either by the I-17 freeway and Ariz. Hwy. 179 or by driving down the jaw-dropping switchbacks of Oak Creek Canyon on US 89A.
Because our house is on the west side of town, during ski season our guests do not have to fight Flagstaff traffic jams to get to the slopes. They just travel 400 yards down Magdalena to US 180 for a short drive to the parking lots and shuttle buses at the base of the Snow Bowl hill. At the day’s end, skiers can shed their gear in the mud room, call for pizza delivery from the nearby Fratelli’s restaurant and relax in front of a roaring fire in the great room while waiting for food to arrive.
Up to 2 dogs are permitted with permission of Owner for extra $100 cleaning fee. Contact owner.

Why they chose this property
Perfect location in the pines between Snow Bowl and Downtown. Perfect place to get away from heat in Phoenix in the summer (and fall and spring). Open concept living room, kitchen, living room and dining area. Kitchen has brand new appliance and granite countertops. (Also a new washer and drier) Close to many major attractions. 90 minutes to the Grand Canyon. 4.6 miles (13 minutes) to NAU.
What makes this property unique
Magdelana T-bones north of US 180 half-way between the Snow Bowl and Downtown. The property is set back from Magdelana and feels secluded but has access to the 180. Close to restaurants/ shopping. The open living area consists of a living room with a television with cable, Apple TV, and a dining area and a kitchen with a stocked pantry baking and cookware I could think of. Spices, vinegar and oil, baking supplies are in the kitchen. The A frame type wooden ceiling in the living area has 3 large sky lights which offer light, warmth, a view of the trees, and falling snow or rain. 2 Primary Bedrooms with en suite baths (one on each floor), 4 bathrooms (3 full and one half) and a studio with kitchen/bath which can be used as an office and/or bedroom (with queen sofa bed) . There is high chair, crib, and porta crib (enough for 2 babies or a toddler and a baby) easily available . Each bedroom except for one is has its own tv. The upstairs Master is very quiet and private. The downstairs Master is very large with a large bathroom. The other two bedrooms are each on diagonal corners of the house and share a bathroom. The cabin is very relaxing. The stove fireplace is cozy. The separate studio can be used as an office or a fifth bedroom. The deer which often hang out on the property are entertaining to watch. The goats on the adjoining property are fun for the kids and adults. The pool room is a gathering place before and after dinner. There is a mini fridge by the pool table for goodies. For hikers there is a path along the east side of the property which goes directly into the forrest. Another route to the forrest is straight up Magdalena for a private neighborhood gate to the forrest. This is used by hikers and mountain bikers. Shopping is a short drive away. Bashas is down the 180 and Frys, 2 Safeways and Whole Foods are a short drive. Restaurants downtown, skiing, Bearizona, the Grand Canyon, Indian ruins and other sights. Staying in is fun too.
