About this property
5 Bed in Wigton (oc-b34111)
Brimming with character, this recently renovated Cumbrian longhouse offers the perfect base for families and groups of friends planning days of outdoor adventure across the dramatic Cumbrian countryside. With walks in the Lake District National Park from your doorstep, guests are spoiled with an endless choice of scenic tracks and trails for walking and cycling. For more national park outings, the bustling market town of Keswick awaits 10 miles away, home to a wide range of outdoor equipment shops, plenty of handy transport links, supermarkets and even more places to stop for Cumbrian food and drink. The village of Bassenthwaite (2.5 miles) also charms with its dramatic lake providing opportunities for water sports and scenic strolls. Slightly further afield, the Georgian market town of Cockermouth (10 miles) celebrates the area’s history with attractions including the National Trust’s Wordsworth House and Garden, the ruins of Cockermouth Castle, and ancient Insel Hall.
A half-mile track leads down to this charming property, setting the scene for a remote stay surrounded by nature. On arrival, take a moment to soak in the surrounding scenery of looming mountains, distant fells and Dash waterfall at the head of the valley. Inside, original features dating back to the 17th century blend with modern comforts to provide a comfortable base for your adventures; exposed beams and farmhouse stylings combine with up-to-date appliances and home entertainment. Kick off muddy walking boots in the entrance hall and walk through to the well-appointed kitchen to find everything needed for brewing well-earned hot drinks and cooking up feasts. Enjoy the chef’s work at the dining table or eat alfresco out on the patio. For some post-dinner relaxation, a choice of comfortable rooms awaits: the main lounge with its soft seating and crackling wood burner, a conservatory with peaceful garden views, and a quiet snug with an open fire and Smart TV. At the end of each busy day away, retire to a choice of five restful bedrooms: two king-size rooms with one that converts to a twin room on request, one double room, one small double room and one single room. Serving the bedrooms and completing the interior is a family bathroom and an additional shower room.
Outside, there is an enclosed garden area featuring a lawn for children to play on and a patio with outdoor furniture, ideal for quiet morning coffees and al fresco evening meals together. As well as the impressive Cumbrian views, guests will also benefit from parking for up to three cars on a driveway shared with the neighbouring holiday cottage.
