About this property

Lovely Renovated Cottage with Privately Owned Beach

Experience "old Florida" at its best: pristine beach with sugar-white sand, loggerhead turtle nests, dolphins, and exotic birds in your front yard. Walk one-quarter mile on a beautiful boardwalk to the WindMark Beach Village Center. The cottage is recently renovated, with a gourmet kitchen, oversized corner soaking tub, Sony Bravia TV, and fully furnished. You need only bring your clothes! You can fish, walk the beach, or watch the dolphins all from your front yard. Sit under the 90-year-old oak trees (The Grand Dames) that shade the house and watch the woodpeckers, bald eagles, and other exotic birds from the screened front porch. Enjoy the pink-orange sunsets and see the stars as you have never seen them before. Watch the moon set on the bay.

The house has one bedroom (a second room functions as Owner's closet), one full bath, and one powder room. Master bedroom has a queen-size bed and two closets, and features a large, corner soaking tub.The front of the house is a great room, with a dining table for eight, living room seating for six, and designer furniture and accessories.

Kitchen amenities include a Bosch dishwasher, Jennair duel fuel range, and refrigerator with ice maker and exterior water feature.

Australian cypress flooring extends throughout the house. Washer and dryer are in the utility room at the covered carport.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate pets.

Keywords: An Old-Florida-style beach bungalow just steps from beautiful St. Joseph Bay. See shrimp boats and dolphins from the living room window and sunsets that last for hours. Loggerhead turtles nest on the sugar-white sand. Peaceful and exquisite.

Mary and Bob Herdegen have family in the area and have been vacationing in nearby Mexico Beach for over 25 years. While this property is new to them, they purchased it from a family who had it in their family since 1938. The new owners hope to honor and maintain the tradition established the family and provide the same wonderful experience for their guests as did the previous owner.

Why they chose this property

When people visit Port St. Joe, they seem to leave a part of their heart is, quite simply, a very special part of the world. Maybe it is the authenticity of the town. Maybe the Southern hospitality. Maybe the amazing shrimp, oysters, and fresh-caught fish. The historic Cape San Blas Lighthouse was "rescued" from imminent loss along the Gulf and now stands proud and protected in the City limits along St. Joe Bay. A full-moon climb will never be forgotten.

What makes this property unique

Some favorite things to do are to walk the beach, which takes an entirely different feel at different times of the day. At night, take a flashlight on the beach and see thousands or thousands of "ghost" crabs scurrying around the sand; it looks like a far-away planet! Sit on the porch and watch the dolphins swim by. The seafood is amazing, and you can buy shrimp and oysters that were taken out of the water the night before. If you think you do not like oysters, you have never tried an Apalachicola oyster! Sleep with the windows open to hear the din of insect noises and to watch the fireflies from the bedroom window. The board walk to WindMark Beach Village Center is beautifully landscaped, and the Village Center has some amenities worth exploring. If you are inclined to pursue other outdoor adventures, less than 30 minutes away you can enjoy Off the Map Expeditions kayak tour of the Dead Lakes in Wewahitchka and the Estuary Tour of the Apalachicola River. Both are a must-see!
