About this property
Stunning Renovated Victorian
Located in the beautiful Berkshires, MA, the 5000 sqf home is located in a desired neighborhood known as "the Hill.” The sun filled house is on a quiet no outlet road and sits on 2.5 acres of landscaping including blueberry bushes, maple tree, lawns, mature flowers, and custom cobblestone. In spite of being only a 15 min walk from downtown, it feels very away from it all with trees in every window and privacy.
Connections to the Appalachian trail within 10 minutes. Lake Mansfield is a 15 min walk. The Green River, with a swimming hole, is a 15 min hike through the woods. The Mahaiwe, a movie theater and the great thriving restaurants, boutiques, toy stores and coffee shops of downtown are a 15 minute walk. Tanglewood is a 20 minute drive. Butternut is a 10 minute drive.
The historic home was built in 1905 and was one of the first in Great Barrington to receive electricity. It has been lovingly renovated and restored from the ground up. Many original details were restored to new condition (windows, radiators and the like) and modern conveniences added. There is central air conditioning, whole home audio system, movie room w/ mounted 65 inch 4k television, surround sound, double pane windows, heated floors in the bathrooms and kitchen. There is a second 4k television in the den for when the kids don't want to watch the same movie as the adults - also with high end surround sound. Sony Playstation and multiple streaming devices all updated to 4K technology. The gourmet cook's kitchen includes a large granite prep area, 2 deep sinks, Wolf Stove, large SubZero, and 2 Bosch dishwashers for easy clean up.
The house is oversized but still cozy with brand new sheets from Brooklinen, new towels, lots of blankets, and well designed locally bought furniture and rugs. There are games and a library of classics and NYTimes bestsellers for ages 2 - adult. In keeping with the classic feel, there is a high end record player in the library for afternoons playing chess and cards. Two large wood burning fireplaces make it homey during the winter.
Enjoy the fresh summer air on the large screened in porch, play ping pong, or enjoy a meal in the fresh air on the screened porch dining table. Ample lawns and private outdoor space, especially for an in town property. Weber Grill on large stone patio for for preparing summer meals, nine person sunken hot tub on mahogany deck and a wood swing set and slide set up for the kids.
Nursery was painted and set-up in 2022 and has toddler toys available for use. Farrow and Ball paint and natural fiber rugs used throughout most of the house. Fragrant free and organic or non-toxic cleaners used. Plates and serving ware for 12 from Crate and Barrel, new in Fall 2024.
Also available for seasonal or year-long rental.

Amenities were in reasonably good condition. The host was cooperating on the issues we needed assistance with. The facility was near downtown Great Barrington.
On a quiet street and walking distance to town, this renovated Victorian was a great place for the family to relax. Many alcoves for privacy or work were a real plus. Only issue is slow Wi-Fi, but a great overall stay.
Beautiful house with plenty of privacy while still being a short walk into the town of Great Barrington. Great for families or groups of friends, with plenty of clean, well-equipped bedrooms and living spaces. Didier was an excellent host, super communicative throughout and helpful.
The home is beautiful and very well maintained. The kitchen is large and functional- beds and linens are comfortable and generous. Overall a great stay in a beautiful home, Host was easy to communicate with and attentive.
I loved staying in this house for a month. The large screened porch was my favorite place to sit in the morning with a good cup of coffee and a book. Extremely well equipped with kitchenware, it was a joy to cook, there was plenty of space for me and my guests, and I enjoyed the proximity to Great Barrington restaurants and stores and Lake Mansfield. Didier was always responsive and helpful.
Gathered here for a 60th birthday weekend with siblings and kids. Plenty of space. Great kitchen. Love the outdoor porch and the hottub. Walking distance to town with lots of great restaurants
Really loved the property! Was returning to Great Barrington for a reunion of sorts. The house was a perfect spot to relax and reconnect. The space is very well appointed. The fab kitchen and outdoor / porch areas were perfect for the occasion. Very peaceful and welcoming place. We were a group of ladies in our 40s, but well stocked with things for littles as well. Highly recommended!
My family and I found this house to be a pleasure. It was extremely well-appointed with amazing attention to detail from tea bags to extra blankets and beyond. The living areas were super cozy and spacious and the porch is perfect for mucky ski boots. The home has lovely finishes and I highly recommend.
Two families rented this lovely home with our children ages 6 and 8. It was well appointed and cozy even though it is a rather large size home. Easy access to town and groceries as well as to butternut skiing. Very responsive host.
My family of 6 had an excellent stay at this house during the winter. The house was clean, spacious, and comfortable. It's decorated like a charming, cozy home. The kitchen is well-stocked with modern appliances. The location is excellent, less than five minutes from Great Barrington's main street and ten minutes from Butternut ski mountain. The owner was very accessible and responsive. I look forward to staying here again soon.
Wonderful house for getting a group together for a weekend get together - plenty of space and common areas to gather and talk, fantastic location, and the owners were very helpful. Everything was ready and easy for us.
This beautifully restored property has great bones with plenty of space to not get in each other’s way. We were 4 mature adults who love culture…..about 12 miles to Tanglewood or take a nice drive to Williamstown/MassMoca, Pittsfield Barrington Theatre et al. Easy access to center of Great Barrington. House is well kept - could use some redecoration but I was an interior designer so I’m fussy!!!
We loved the home. It was very conducive to relaxing and spending time with family. There are many spots to hang out in, nap, or read. We enjoyed walking to town for coffee at Fuel each morning. We also did some fantastic hikes. We also loved the fancy appliances and gadgets in the kitchen. And the ping pong table was a nice distraction during the warmest part of the day. The host was very responsive and we will definitely return.
Nice large house. Comfortable furniture. Good location - a short walk into town or to McAllister Nature Preserve. House could have been better prepared - when we arrived there were dishes in the dishwasher, towels in the dryer, and the garbage can and recycling can were full. Most of the bedrooms have no closets or drawers available to unpack clothes- the dressers that were there were mostly full. Could also use an investment in new pots and pans and more bowls.

Hi Gary,
Thank you for the feedback. We are proud of our 5-star ratings and try to make everything perfect for our guests. We have spoken with the cleaning crew - this has never happened before and the owner of the crew is taking it seriously, as otherwise they are excellent. Most guests comment on how clean the property is and everything from deep cleaning to mulching was part of our summer prep. We’ve implemented all the improvements you suggested. including all new pots, pans, kitchen goods, dinnerware and serveware. Thank you again and hope you got some good hiking in.
We recently enjoyed a delightful stay in Great Barrington, MA, that exceeded all expectations. We arrived to a beautiful home that was exactly as pictured — charming, well appointed, full of books, games, movies, and records, and both spacious and comfortable.
The kitchen was nicely organized and had everything we needed to cook and eat in when we wanted to, and Great Barrington has wonderful restaurants to try.
The bedrooms allowed us to spread out, with comfortable large beds and tastefully decorated rooms. Bathrooms gave us privacy, and the bonus space on the third floor became a hideout for the kids. The house had two desk areas, allowing us both to “work-from-home” on the days we did need to connect with the office.
Our stay was further enhanced by the variety of entertainment options available. From the PlayStation to the streaming on their SmartTVs, to the hot tub and ping pong table, there was never a shortage of activities.
Strongly recommended - thanks for a great stay!
The home is in a lovely and somewhat private location, and it is only 1.0 miles into the center of Great Barrington, which is a wonderful town with everything that one would need. We took walks every day, and we even discovered a nature preserve only a half a mile away, where we walked quite often. The home not only had plenty of bedrooms, but its common rooms were numerous and quite spacious. Also, our 3 year old grandson loved the very expansive swing/slide/climbing set. There were a couple of issues with the fridge and the air conditioner on the third floor (which we ended up not using), but the owner immediately took care of those issues and was 100% responsive. In fact, he kept reaching out to us to make sure we were OK and satisfied, and he even gave us a partial refund as an accommodation, which he did not have to do but which very much was appreciated by us. Overall, it was a great home to stay at, and the owner could not have been more helpful and gracious.

Thank you David for the kind review! It was a bit of a perfect storm with the refrigerator and upstairs a/c going at same time. We have since replaced all the mechanicals for the sub-zero refrigerator, and it is like new again, and the new a/c unit is working fine now.
This Great Barrington house is wonderful! It is one of the few times we have rented a place and the reality is better than the pictures. The kitchen is terrific - well equipped and easy to understand. There are great spaces to chat, read, relax or watch a movie. We walked into town every day, and the nearby trails for hiking were a treat. Our host was easy accessible though we did not need to contact since everything in the house worked. Highly recommend!
Didier was extremely responsive, and the house was all we had hoped it would be for our family gathering. Everyone was grateful to spend time playing chess, eating together, walking to town, listening to music, and playing games. Linens, pillows and mattresses were top quality, crisp and clean! We loved our stay!! Thank you!!
Second time we and family (10 of us) have stayed here. Spacious. Comfortable. Quiet neighborhood. Hosts extraordinarily helpful and thoughtful. Just a great property and location.
This was a fantastic house for adults and children. Everything was so clean, lots of supplies, well-stocked kitchen (now that I left a garlic press), and lots of space everywhere. We spent a great deal of time on the lovely screened-in porch and outside. Loved the laundry room and huge 3rd floor especially. The owners could not have been more helpful and responded quickly to any of our questions. The area is great--close to town. Lake is a good 20 minute walk (at least with kids).
We had a great time and were very pleased with the location. My family had never been to the Berkshires so they were delighted.
Our hosts were extremely responsive as some things weren't ready like the air conditioning system and the grill didn't have gas in it. Who'd have thought we'd have July weather in May? Once the aircon got repaired we were very comfortable. My sister and her husband decided they want to move to the Berkshires from Texas!
We had a great time staying at this property. Unexpectedly, we spent at least 75% of our time in the screened in porch. It was the perfect gathering place in warm weather. There was plenty of room for our large group, and the hosts were very easy to work with. The only thing I’d add is that most of the yard is quite sloped. If you have young toddlers/new walkers in your group, you’ll need to be careful/attentive about letting them play outside.

What makes this property unique
This was the first home in Great Barrington to receive electricity. Renovating and upgrading has been an ongoing labor of love, from landscaping to adding heated floors to restoring ornate original radiators, French doors and molding.
