Very good

We enjoyed our time here with our young kids! It was the perfect place for a relaxing weekend! It was spacious and clean (a little rustic, but overall what I expected from the listing and pictures). We loved the lake and the sandy beachfront.
The lawn and lake view were very nice. The property itself was a bit worn. The beds were standard size and the linens, especially the towels were substandard. That said it was a very comfortable place to gather with family with a large family room and open kitchen dining set up.

Needs work
Had a similar experience to recent review. Disappointingly the carpets and floors were still dirty but not the musty smells. They said they were getting cleaned the day we checked out so hopefully that really happens. This place is definitely outdated but was ok but fortunately we didn't have to use the old pull out couches so I can't speak to them.
The no refund policy is unfortunate and should have been a red flag. Wouldn't stay there again.
Perfect set up for a small reunion. 2 identical units each with air conditioning and kitchens. Perfect for short stays. Lake is fantastic for young swimmers. Beautiful sunsets!!
The Ohana resort was a perfect spot for our family vacation. The kids loved all the toys and beach area by the water. The manager went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and was always readily available.
We would husky recommend staying here!
Stayed overnight for a golf trip. Had a great time. Very nice to have restaurant on the property.

Dirty property
This is also my Yelp review: June 30-July 2: The only reason Ohana Resort is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the sandy play area my grandchildren enjoyed. I wish I had done more research and read the reviews prior to booking this place. Our penthouse and studio units were filthy and run down. I wish I had taken a picture of the kids' feet after walking around the unit. They were black. All the posts are accurate. I even messaged Chris asking her about the reviews: "Hello! My family and I are excited to vacation at Ohana Resort starting the 30th. I wanted to touch base with someone who could explain a little bit about the negative comments I've been reading about the lack of cleanliness there. That concerns me a great deal. There are comments about dirty carpet, musty smells, broken furniture, etc. I saw some great comments about the staff which is great, but I need to know if things are any different than the comments I've been reading. My family would never want me to book anything that is not clean and for the rates charged, we should expect clean, odor-free rooms. Can you speak to all of that please? Thank you for your time!"
Her answer: "Cindy Our place is clean, we are doing upgrades all the time. Our staff works very hard to maintain the whole Resort. Thanks Chris" . Had it not been for the reviews asking to cancel and their policy stating NO REFUNDS, we would have turned around and walked out. We made the best of it by washing the minimal kitchen items they had, everyone was forced to wear their sandals the whole time and we put our own sheets on the old, dirty couches. There were window handles broken, some the windows did not have screens and couch was rigged up with wooden blocks. Because of the broken and bent cookware and limited dirty dishware, we bought plates, bowls, napkins, plasticware, paper towels and cleaning supplies. The 2 kitchen towels in the unit were so heavily stained, we only used them to clean. Unlike other VRBO units, we were disappointed with the lack of amenities. Very few kitchen utensils, minimal broken and beat up cookware, no S&P shakers, no napkins, no cleaning supplies, etc. The units were dark, dirty and musty. I would not recommend staying here. My lesson... vet these places sooner and thoroughly, and believe what you read, especially if it's listed more than once. (Zoom in on some of these to see t the filth up close.) I have photos to add.
The lake and area were beautiful. The only downside was the cleanliness of the carpets and the older couches and beds. Other than that we had great time there!
All of the staff was extremely nice and helpful. The property was in a great location. It was right on the lake and had plenty to do close by. The property itself had plenty of room for all 11 of us to sleep. We would definitely stay here again if we are back in the area.
This was absolutely disgusting! The kitchen had food on fronts of cabinets, sticky floors, and pots and pans that were unsafe. Barely enough silverware and thank God we brought our own cooking utensils. The carpets throughout the house were damp and sticky. Holes in doors. Bathtubs has mold. Showers had broken bar. Broken windows, on a second and 3rd story unit you have to remove the screens to close the windows. Which is dangerous! The porch has outdoor carpet that isn’t glued down. The pull out couch beds were not clean. The couches are so worn down you can’t sit on them. The oven didn’t work. The garbage disposal didn’t work. Overall if the Lake wasn’t so beautiful we Definitely Would NOT have stayed here!!!
Had 9 of my friends stay here for a night and it was a great experience. We reserved the middle and lower unit with absolutely 0 issues in regard to cleanliness, staff communication, etc. This is the perfect place to reserve if you're trying to get away for a weekend/week and want to chill out on one of the best lakes in Michigan.

Nice and spacious waterfront location that requires renovation
This is a nice location in front of Houghton Lake with diverse activities.
The house is however really old (bathroom, kitchen) and not sound proof (you can hear people from the other floors, it is a 3-floor house) hopefully it was our family staying on the 2nd floor.
The bed was small and not confortable, some sheets were not cleaned, we asked to have the bedding changed. There are 2 beds and the 3rd one is a convertible sofa bed , very old, flat , only a child could sleep on it but definitely not two adults.
I will not stay in this house again.

Relaxing
Somehow it wasn't clear that our units were separate, but connected. We might have been able to squeeze everyone in one unit. It might have been that we missed something; it might be that your description is a little misleading.
It's a great site. Wish there was a sandy beach. That was a little bit misleading also.
