Stinson Lake is remarkable for its cleanliness and quietude. This house is perfectly situated on it. The property gives you privacy, amenities (washer, dryer, d2 kayaks, 1 canoe, 1 paddle board, a sailboat, a firepit, and an outdoor grill), and a chance to really slow down and enjoy the outdoors. There is nothing fancy--the house is a well-used, old-fashioned lake camp with charm (or quirks, depending on your outlook)--but it works for our party of 6 adults and two dogs. We are on or in the water every day, and love hanging out on the screened-in porch when not outdoors. The beds are comfortable, but the walls are thin. We have seen bear, bald eagles, loons, and hummingbirds. Rating: 5 stars on location, 3 stars upkeep (it's clean, but old).
Stinson Lake is peaceful and the water is absolutely beautiful.

It is clear the cottage is well-loved by generations of the owners family and the memories that can be had here are plentiful. This review is not intended to be negative or warn off others from booking, but to inform.
The good: beautiful lakefront, large lawn, clean interior, decent privacy between the house and neighbors, dock has been updated since listing pictures taken, front porch is awesome and given a lovely welcome gift.
The not-so-great: only 2 kayaks provided when listing says 3, unable to bathe for first 2 days due shower drain inoperable-no compensation offered, but did send plumber out on Tuesday, downstairs bathroom is not 1/2 bath, but 1/4 with toilet only (its more of a closet), stairs to 2nd floor very steep, narrow (only a concern if you have mobility issues or little kids), lawn was overgrown and needed mowing, driveway extremely steep and narrow, parking area could only comfortably fit 2 cars, oven intermittently worked-pilot would not light most of the time and had to be lit manually, communication from owners was a little slow when we had issues.
While we feel it is slightly overpriced for the condition/quality/features, there are more positives than negatives. Overall the house is quirky/old, but clean, and despite the relatively minor hiccups, we had a nice week and appreciate the opportunity to enjoy the Roitman's lovely cottage on Stinson Lake.
This spot is incredible. Beautiful views on (in my opinion) the best lake in NH. Everything was described accurately and this week was exactly what our family needed. Thank you, Roitmans!
Great, secluded spot right on the lake. The view is incredible. The Mountain View’s and rustic, cabin feel is exactly what we wanted. We had a great time.
The house is rustic, but that's what I want when I go to the mountains. The lake and surrounding area were amazing, the hosts were super friendly and helpful.
We had a very relaxing week! As it was the end of the summer, the weather and water was beginning to chill down a bit, but that was just fine. It allowed us to take advantage of some swimming and kayaking in the sun, warming up as necessary in the sauna, and building a toasty fire in the big, stone fireplace in the mornings and evenings. The house was spacious and clean, the beds were comfortable, and all necessities were well provided for. The location of the house provided lots of privacy, just the right amount of sun, and easy access to crystal clear water either by stairs or a leap off the end of the dock (a careful leap, as the end of the dock is a little unsteady). We took advantage of nearby hiking trails, tried our hand at fishing off the dock, and enjoyed many a meal and card game on the awesome screened in porch. Our golden retriever was in her glory as well - swimming, hiking, and boating with us, or chilling on the porch and in the spacious front yard. One definite highlight If our week was seeing a bald eagle up close as we kayaked to the south end of the lake. Got some amazing pics as it circled above us, perched itself atop a tall pine for a bit, then took flight again.
A couple of things to be aware of: the driveway is steep, windy, and narrow in places, so drive with caution; the stairway to all of the bedrooms is relatively steep and wouldn’t be easy for someone with limited mobility to navigate; finally... the old, woodsy, cabin feel of the house comes complete with visits from little critters of the deep woods, so come knowing that you need to store food in tightly sealed containers.
We loved our week! Thank you for everything!!!
The magic starts as you head down the long private driveway that winds its way to the charming rustic cottage. The location is perfect with amazing views of the lake and local mountains! The lake was wonderfully clean and surprisingly warm and the dock allowed an easy access for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. We brought our own kayaks but it was such a perk having the additional kayaks available to use. The house was a wonderful fit for our family and 2 dogs, but when we weren’t in or on the lake the screened porch was where we loved to hang out. The porch was the perfect place to gather for eating or game nights and large enough to get some privacy to read one of the books available on the living room shelf. We are so grateful to the Roitman family for sharing their wonderful family cottage. It was a magical vacation and the only disappointment was that we couldn’t stay longer! We definitely hope to return in the future!
Our extended family had a wonderful time here. Enjoyed the kayaks every day. Beautiful clear lake. The owners were so helpful with area amenities & advice. The screened -in porch was the perfect place for meals and games 😊
Our family of 4 people and 3 dogs had an amazing week at this rustic cabin on Stinson Lake! It was a little hard to get to, down a steep and windy driveway ( 4 wheel drive came in handy here). The cabin was very clean and well set up with everything needed for our stay. The lake was clear and warm, great for swimming.
This lovely rustic home with modern conveniences was the perfect place where my family's vacation. We had our children and grandchildren and everybody was nicely accommodated. The kitchen had everything we needed, the easy access to the lake in the backyard was perfect for entertaining everybody, access to hiking trails was great for Grandma and Grandpa cuz we love to hike. We are right now in the process of planning when we can come back.
Three generations of our family had a great time - the lake is gorgeous for swimming in the summer, and the kayaks and canoe make exploring the lake really nice. We spent most of our time in/on the lake or on the screen porch. The house is old and crooked but quite charming. A big fireplace with a bountiful supply of nice dry firewood made it cozy on a rainy night.
We had a great time... on the lake and on the porch looking at the lake!
House had the basics we needed. Thanks to our hosts for sharing their home with us.

About the host
Hosted by Michael Roitman
The Roitman family has owned this wonderful vacation home for over sixty years. The current generation of owners grew up spending all summer at the house as well as weekends throughout the year. For the first time, we are renting our summer home.
Why they chose this property
This is a rustic over 100 year old summer cottage on Stinson Lake in Rumney, NH. The lake is approximately 2 1/2 miles long and 3/4 of a mile wide at the widest. It is spring fed with deep clear water. The lake is located within the White Mountain National Forest at approximately 1200 feet above sea level. There are no stores or commercial business located at the lake. Compared to many of New Hampshire's larger lakes it is a bit off the beaten path. Our house is located off a dirt road, with a steep driveway down to the lake shore giving it a secluded delightful location. Lake access has a sandy bottom and drops off quickly.
