For the price I think it could include toiletries, Road leading to property was washout. Some areas were difficult. Overall, cozy.

Thank you for staying at Ash Creek Hideaway, and we’re glad to hear you’d be willing to come back!
I’m sorry we didn’t exceed your expectations. The flood a couple of weeks ago left our little county road in pretty rough shape. We received 20–25 inches of rain in Ash Creek Canyon, and, for the first time since we built our home here in 1981, the road sustained some significant damage. We’re on the county’s list for improved road repairs, and we’re very appreciative that our neighbor and guests are now able to access their homes.
Regarding the price, we feel our nightly rate is quite reasonable for a three-bedroom, two-bath home with all of the amenities we provide, especially given our beautiful country location. When hotel taxes, the VRBO service fee, and cleaning fee are added—particularly for a two-night stay—the total can be more than we would prefer as well. Unfortunately, we don’t have control over much of those additional fees.
I’m also sorry you missed the information we provide about what is included and what guests may want to bring during their stay. We’ll take another look at how we can make that information easier to find.
Thank you for taking such good care of our vacation rental. We truly appreciate it and hope to have you back at Ash Creek Hideaway soon!

Very clean, lovely yard, and close to Garner State Park. We loved watching the birds and being outside on the porch. My dog was thrilled with the yard and the fence was sturdy enough I didn't worry about him being outside.

We had a wonderful time. The fenced in yard allowed us to let the dogs roam and explore. We enjoyed the fire circle on the cool nights. The proximity to Lost Maples and Garner State Parks was perfect. We took the dogs hiking at both State Parks. A good time was had by all.

The property was a perfect peaceful getaway for my husband, sister, brother-in-law and me as well as my sister's dog. We greatly enjoyed the hummingbirds on the many feeders on the porch. The dog loved running around the fenced in yard. It was quiet, a perfect place to hang out and talk and play games. I was initially nervous about finding it when i learned cell service is spotty out there, but the owners written directions were accurate and easy to follow. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, dishes, pots and pans and serving bowls as well as appliances that were in great shape. A very enjoyable time!

Thanks Lisa, glad you gave us a try! And more happy that we exceeded your expectations! There is always the good old landline still hooked up as backup and then wifi is pretty reliable. When we first moved to Ash Creek, we had 8 different households who were on our party-line, luckily most were only visiting on weekends! Life sure has changed!
We had a wonderful time during our stay. The weather was horrible and we were at the house for days but we got to enjoy the home and it was perfect for us.

Rain, rain, rain just kept coming for these guests! The first time in years for that much rain! As much as I hated to see the rain for y’all, the area needed it so bad that we are glad you put up with it and enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and listening to the rain on the metal roof!
Thanks for staying at Ash Creek Hideaway for a peaceful stay! Remind me for your next trip and I’ll throw in an extra night for free!

Maggie,
Thanks for taking time to write a review! I appreciate how you and your friends took care of Ash Creek Hideaway and the stories your guests told me about how they enjoyed seeing the wildlife, laying on a blanket for hours looking at the stars, the peacefulness and quiet of the place, and hanging a hammock under the pecan trees and relaxing! We look forward to your return.

This is the second time we've rented this cute 3 bedroom house. That's a wonderful place with great amenities. Lots of parking, washer dryer, fire pit, wildlife, lots of stars... I could go on forever. Wendy is a fantastic hostess and make sure all the details are correct for a wonderful stay. Look forward to doing it again soon.

This was our second time staying at Ash Creek. Such a beautiful and peaceful getaway from the city. We love the large porch for relaxing and birdwatching. The fully fenced yard is a huge plus for our dog. The house itself is comfortable, clean and well maintained. There are lovely new showers installed since our last visit. Our favorite activity is chilling by the fire with a good book. The host is lovely and makes the entire process easy and welcoming. We definitely recommend Ash Creek and look forward to visiting again!!

Hurry back soon! The birds and squirrels will be waiting for y’all and the dogs!

About the host
Hosted by Wendy Smith
Living on our family property in Blanco, just west of here, we truly enjoy making the drive over to ensure our little piece of heaven on earth is ready for your stay. We’ve always called the Texas Hill Country home, where wide-open spaces, abundant wildlife, and small-town charm make life special—much like Leakey. We love spending time outdoors, watching the deer, hummingbirds, and purple martins, gathering with family and friends, and appreciating the simple joys of country life. Hosting gives us the opportunity to share a little of this peaceful lifestyle with others. There’s nothing more rewarding than creating a warm, comfortable place where guests can relax, make lasting memories, and experience the natural beauty and genuine hospitality of our area.
Why they chose this property
As a newlywed couple looking to grow in the coaching profession, my husband accepted a position with Leakey Independent School District as head basketball coach and science teacher. The small Class A school immediately felt like home, and the community warmly welcomed the new teacher and coach in town. Housing was limited at the time, but through a wonderful connection with a sweet, retired teacher who owned this beautiful ranch just a few miles outside of Leakey, we were able to purchase three acres of this gorgeous, secluded property. It was there that we built what is now Ash Creek Hideaway. For several years, we were the only full-time residents along this four-mile country road and loved caring for and watching over the surrounding properties. Although life eventually led us closer to our aging families, Ash Creek Canyon has always held a special place in our hearts, and we continue to treasure the peace and beauty found here.
What makes this property unique
What makes our property truly special is the peaceful beauty that surrounds you in every direction. From every window and across all three acres, you’ll enjoy relaxing country views and the quiet charm of the Texas Hill Country. The front porch is lined with comfortable chairs and rocking chairs—the perfect place to sip your morning coffee, unwind in the evening, or simply take in the scenery. A fenced yard provides a safe space for children and outdoor pets to play while you relax.
Inside, the cozy fireplace creates the perfect atmosphere for quiet evenings, while outside, the fire pit offers a wonderful place to gather under the stars. If you enjoy cooking outdoors, you’ll find a barrel BBQ pit, an additional grill, and three picnic tables ready for family meals and gatherings. For a little fun, guests can enjoy ping-pong, cornhole, horseshoes, and washer pitching.
Nature lovers especially appreciate the wildlife that often visits the property—deer, squirrels, armadillos, bluebirds, butterflies, and depending on the season, purple martins and hummingbirds. It’s the perfect blend of comfort, outdoor fun, and the natural beauty that makes this little getaway so memorable.
