Beachfront palapa cottage with heated pool , sunsets and tropical gardens

Cottage Sam is a private beachfront Palapa styled cottage with 22' ceilings just steps from the beach and the soothing salt water heated pool. Once inside the gated and walled enchanted Villa Makax, you’ll be in a world of your own choosing.

Located on the west side of Isla Mujeres overlooking the turquoise waters of the Cancun Bay beautiful views of sunsets and the twinkling lights of Cancun in the distance. There are restaurants and beach clubs within walking distance and the Turtle preserve is a short walk south down our beach. Our guests can be picked up for their Isla Mujeres water tours at our private dock on the laguna side.

Villa Makax's four cottages are very cozy and tastefully decorated. Each cottage has a king sized bed, seating area, smart TV, fully equipped kitchenette, refrigerator, full bathroom with shower, air conditioning and ceiling fans. Imagine relaxing on your private sea-side patio while listening to and watching the waves, just sitting here will take your breath away.

We stayed here for my wife's birthday this year, and everything was wonderful. If you're looking for a more chill and relaxing place to stay, it doesn't get much better than this. The host was magnificent, and we felt so welcome.

Perfect Quiet Spot

Quaint little bungalows with little kitchenette, 20-30ft from ocean or pool. On west side, away from busy Central. Grab a golf cart or moped, and the island is yours (restaurants, pubs, grocery). Little property dogs to keep you occupied (they love treats). Steve and his wife are great hosts.

Mimic-Isla Mujeres

We had a fabulous time at Steven and Lindell’s property. We rented a golf cart and really didn’t even need it. Great location, great people, and great times that will never be forgotten.Steven and Lindell were absolutely amazing hosts. We wish we could have stayed longer, but life gets in the way sometimes. We are already thinking about when we can go back.

Peaceful Villa

What a perfect little palapa on the Caribbean for a relaxing and fun vacation! Saw the pics and knew I needed to stay here. Had Isla Delivery do some grocery shopping for our arrival. Loved meeting Steve and Lindell, learning about their time on the island. Booked a golf cart tour our first day to get the lay of the land and had our own golf cart delivered the next day for lots of adventures! It was great fun! From coffee on our patio, sunning and reading, to watching the iguanas, birds and all of the boats going by, this is a great place to just hang out! Comfortable bed and AC. Short walk to Velavento Mangle for breakfast or lunch.

Fabulous!

My boyfriend and I loved the beautiful slice of beach, sunsets, and chill atmosphere of the palapa as it is removed from the main downtown. One of my favorite vacations of all time! Highly recommend.

I’m reluctantly leaving a review for this little slice of heaven because I want to keep it all to myself. I could’ve sat on that gorgeous beach forever. Room was clean and well appointed. Bed was extremely comfortable. Owners and caretakers were friendly and accommodating. We all hated to leave.

Absolute Bliss

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Palapa Sam! Cottage had everything we needed. Access to beach and lovely pool was just what we wanted, no crowded resort with people staking our deck chairs at 7am! The location right on the beach with evening sunsets was absolutely perfect. We really enjoyed the island and made use of a golf cart to bomb around and explore. Our hosts were great as were all the locals who made us feel welcome everywhere we went. We will definitely be back!

Private Paradise

Really loved everything about the property. So private. We stayed in Cottage Sam which was amazing - from the bed you can look out to the sea and listen to the gently lapping waves. The pool was also amazing with lots of chairs and floating devices as well as a outdoor living space. A really rare find and would highly recommend Villa Makax

I can’t say anything bad about this place!! Unique place to stay. Perfect spot away from the busy Centro area. Peaceful, great view, nice pool. Friendly owners. Let’s not forget about Juan who can help you with many questions, taxi ect. Golf cart was a must for us because we like to get out and explore. We would stay here again!

Peaceful Paradise

What a dream to wake up to turquoise ocean views. The property was quiet, peaceful, and well maintained. The caretakers are very warm and friendly, and responsive. My wife and I enjoyed the salt water pool and tranquility of being on the quieter side of the island. There is a nice little restaurant walking distance, and we had a golf cart to get around. It was a perfect trip and we can't wait to go back! It felt like home when walking in the door after a long day of exploring the island.

Wouldn't stay anywhere else

Steve and Lindell are the most outstanding hosts with an amazing property. The property is beautifully maintained by the caretakers who live on site and are always ready to lend a hand with your luggage and whatever else you may need. They'll even pick up your groceries for a minimal fee. The pool is great, the beach is great, the places to rest and relax throughout the property are amazing. We can't think of anywhere we'd rather stay.

Loved it!

Spent 10 nights in Palapa Lee and loved it. Fun to rent a golf cart and explore Isla, but we always headed back 'home' to watch the sunset. Our favorite spot (4 times) was the Soggy Peso. Great daily specials and killer margaritas. Steve and Lindell were a gracious host/hostess and we definitely plan to return. Isla is a beautiful island with friendly people, great scenery and great restaurants.

We fell in love with Isla in 1972, purchased our property in 1975. Our home, Villa Makax, was an unfinished partially built building. We arrived here when there was no Cancun airport.Steve and Lindell, the owners of Villa Makax are from Wrightsville Beach, NC. They arrived here in 1972, and fell in love with Isla Mujeres. In 1975 they purchased an unfinished house on Sac Bajo and over the last 45 years, their love for Mexico and particularly Isla, is shown through the manner in which they carved out this piece of paradise.

Every stone, every block, every tile was placed with care and love for the land. As pioneers of the North American community on the island, they have experienced and participated in the tremendous growth and prosperity of the community. The depth of their combined love for Mexico and Isla Mujeres is reflected in all corners and crevices of the cottages.
Steve and Lindell are best known on Isla for their dedicated work with the challenged children of the island. Commonly known as The Little Yellow School House, Amor a la Niñez (Love of the childhood) was established in 1998 by local women in a small 6 by 8 foot classroom. The school is supported by donations only, there is no cost to the families.
