Breathtaking views, very accommodating and comfortable. Everything stated on the website was exactly what it was and then some. A lot of thought and detail was given to all guests needs-from kitchen utensils to baby gates. There were ample linens and towels. We truly had an amazing time and made great memories! Our only regret was not booking a longer stay!

We had a wonderful time at Cedar House on Lake Lure. The house is beautiful, clean and was large enough for the 11 of us. The 5 grandchildren loved the bunk room so they could all stay together. Katie, the owner was great and responded quickly with any questions we had.

Hi Annabella! Thank you again for staying with us, taking such wonderful care of our home, and your review! We strive to provide as close to a *perfect* vacation as you can get, but those big storms and Direct TV had different plans that evening. We were happy to help sort that out :) If your travels bring you back to Western NC, we would love to host you and your family again. All the best, Katie & family
If we could give this property more than 5 stars we would!
The home is in perfect condition and very well stocked. Comfortable beds, sheets and towels. The boat house is a little bit of a walk (as others have mentioned) but we were well aware and made the most of it. Would DEFINITELY stay here again. You won't find a better view on Lake Lure!

The host (Katie!) was incredibly gracious and communicative and the house provided us with all of our needs.

Owner was very responsive. House was perfectly furnished. We could not stop looking at the views from most every room. Active Cameras inside the living room, and kitchen was a little more disconcerting than I thought. We shared our concern ahead of the booking. It’s a family retreat and this was to insure property was safe. Would stay there again.

Hi Leon! Thank you for staying with us and leaving a review. We were honored you picked our home for a "staycation on the lake" as a local! I'm glad the views and full lake experience didn't disappoint! As we chatted about when you booked your stay, the closed circuit camera system is in place to protect the property, monitor maintenance vendors, and for emergencies. The cameras are purposefully in plain view (never hidden) and contain no audio. We try to be as transparent and forth-coming as possible in the listing/lease/welcome email so that everyone is on the same page. We understand and respect that our home may not be a fit for everyone! Thanks again for the wonderful review and feedback. Hope to host you again one day! All the best, Katie
This property has it all! You can feel the love the owners put into it. The mountain views from the house rival any in the area. The lakefront boat house is on a quiet cove and has tons of toys. The house is well stocked with anything you might need and Katie was so easy to communicate with. We're taking tons of great memories with us and hope to return to the Cedar House again.

About the host
Hosted by Katie Miller
Hi! We're the Millers. Nice to meet you! We understand renting a property from strangers can feel a little strange so we hope this little biography can put your worries at ease. We think we are pretty fun and are excited to share the Cedar House with you!
The Cedar House is owned by four of the crazy Miller Clan: Jim Miller, Donna Miller (Jim's wife), Katie Miller Fosnaugh (Jim and Donna's daughter), and Shawn Fosnaugh (Katie's husband). The greater Miller crew began vacationing at Lake Lure in the 1960's, with the purchase of a family summer cabin. Generations of family and friends have enjoyed trips to the cabin and it is still family owned. Fast forward to 2018, we purchased the Cedar House as a place to comfortably house multiple generations of our family. It is within walking distance to our original family home and it means so much to us to be able to continue the family legacy in the immediate area.
A little more about us...
- Our main residences are in Columbus, Ohio. OH-IO!!! to our fellow Buckeyes. Jim and Donna reside in Worthington. Katie and Shawn live in Grandview.
- Jim is a veterinarian and a Donna manages the family owned vet practice. It is a well known fact that their German Shephard named Mitchell (after Mount Mitchell) is their favorite child.
- Shawn and Katie were married at the Lake Lure Inn in May of 2015. Shawn works as a financial analyst for a large pharmaceutical company. Katie works in real estate investment, owns, and manages rental properties.
- We are admitted "Beer snobs." Craft beers, especially a good citrus IPA, are our jam.
- We love hiking and travel. In the past few years, we have been fortunate enough to summit Half Dome (Yosemite), cross off many of the Presidential mountains (New Hampshire), and venture through Gulfo Dulce in Costa Rica.
Any other questions for us?!? Please feel free to ask. The Cedar House is an amazing place and we hope to share it with you.
With ♥️,
The Millers
Why they chose this property
We simply love this property and the surrounding area! We have deep family roots in Lake Lure and we are so excited to share our home and love for area with family, friends and guests.
So, why this property?!? We have lots of reasons, but here are a few of our favorites: 1. THE VIEWS, the views, and did we mention the VIEWS?!? The home was built to allow views from every room and the sunsets from the deck are simply spectacular. From the moment you arrive, you will be wrapped in the breathtaking views. 2. The open floor plan is ideal for large family gatherings. Everyone can comfortably be together in the home. We have a big family who really (REALLY) likes to eat. The open kitchen with double appliances helps us feed our passion for food. 3. The home encourages FUN with whimsical touches throughout. Enjoy s'mores by the fire pit, watch the stars, and listen to the cascading waterfall. Sling some drinks through the pass through bar windows and have a memorable happy hour in the sun room. "Rock" (pun intended) your worries away in the deck chairs while listening to your favorite tunes on the outdoor speakers. 4. You will sleep like a baby here. After a day full of fun, you will nee a good night's sleep. We invested in Nectar mattresses for the beds and we regret NOTHING. They are super comfortable and promise you a great night's sleep. Additional touches like ample soft and firm pillows, throw blankets, and fluffy duvets allow everyone to customize their beds just how they like them. 5. The Views (Yeah, we know... we already said that.). Once you see them, you will understand why it received two spots on the list.
What makes this property unique
- The Views. Everything about the property was designed to capture the surrounding landscape. The home has one of a kind views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Lake Lure. Watching the sunset over the Sleeping Lady Mountain is a gift. (High five to the architect) - The Experience. This is a custom, luxury home designed to serve multiple generations. Open spaces. Ample relaxation areas. High end beds. The sounds of the waterfall. The crackle of the fire pit. You will leave the Cedar House well rested and well fed. - The Location. Surrounded by mountains, Lake Lure is truly stunning. The water is fresh and clean. The lake is private. The owners and residents take pride in the lake. It is a wonderful spot to clear your mind and recharge.
