Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Communication, location
Great views but hard to enjoy with all the bugs
Pros: The house was pretty and the private salt water pool was great. Nice views of ocean.
Cons: It was a bit further back from the beach than we thought and hard for my older parents to get up and down the stairs and to the beach. The house sits between 2 empty lots that are overgrown and the bugs on our deck were unbearable (think flying ants). The internet did not work at all and we had to use our own data and hot spots which was frustrating. Overall it just was not a good experience because the rental company for the owner, Oak Island Accommodations was extremely unresponsive. You can never get a live person on the phone, are forced to leave a message and messages are never returned.
We tried to be understanding of the hurricane that came through weeks before but that is no reason not to communicate. We were not told until 9 days before our rental if we even had a house to rent. This was after they initially told us the house was NOT rentable, to file a claim with the insurance and find another vacation home. Then they called the next day (after we frantically tried to find a place to vacation) and said oops, we were wrong, the house IS rentable (and in fact we found out later there were already renters there). This did not set a good tone.
When we arrived, the soiled linens (several bags) from previous renters were left on the steps you had to go up to get inside the front door. I finally had to call and ask them to send someone to remove them. I called every day to complain about the internet and tv's not working. On Saturday they claimed to have put in a maintenance ticket and would keep us updated. This did not happen, and after several messages left for them, I finally physically went to the offices of Oak Island Accommodations. They claimed they get 150 calls a day and just unable to handle it all. They did give us a hot spot so we had internet (not tv) for the last 2 days of our rental. Thye did give us a discount on our rental for our trouble. Nice but we thought it should have been more considering the unresponsiveness and inconvenience of no tv and internet.
We would definitely return to Oak Island but unfortunately will never deal with Oak Island Accommodations again. I hope the owner of the house sees this review and addresses the issues.
