We had a lovely long weekend getaway in the beautiful northwoods! We loved having the sauna, and an endless supply of board games. Close to some trails for a nature walk and a relaxing space to hang with friends!
Great property! Very quite lake with no other traffic while we were there. Great to have the use of the fishing boat and paddle boat. Cabin is very nice and 2 kids enjoyed the loft space for sleeping. Also super nice to have a high quality Weber grill to use.
We took advantage of this rental to relax & rejuvenate.
If you are looking for a location that provided many activities, this property also provides those opportunities.
This property delivered everything stated.
Property was awesome. Lake has plenty of fish and love how it is catch and release fish will only going to continue to grow. Plenty to do from heyward to superior.
My friends and I enjoyed our short stay at this location. The weather and view were perfect! We enjoyed a sunset bonfire using the convenient fire pit. The home was well-decorated, spacious, private, and comfortable. Lake amenities were available but it was a bit chilly to use them Note: Be prepared to complete the owner's list of "chores" before leaving the unit. Enjoy!

Thank you Marilyn for the kind words regarding your recent stay at the cabin. Sorry the weather was unseasonably cool when you visited. As noted in your rental agreement, you can’t simply pack up and leave the cabin without doing some basic cleaning. There would be no way to properly sanitize the cabin between renters if this was not done. See you next year!
This is a beautiful cabin that is very comfortable for up to 8 people. We stayed over the holidays and enjoyed cooking, relaxing, and playing outside in the gorgeous snowfall. The woodburning stove is awesome in the winter. I can imagine how great this property would be in the summer, as well, with the dock and lake access.
We were quite disappointed that the sauna was not in working order (it broke shortly before our stay). I know that the owner was working hard to try to get it fixed, but I still find it unprofessional that he was not willing to give us a discount when this is one of the main reasons that we booked this particular cabin.
Also heads up that there is a lengthy cleaning list required of guests before they leave: including vacuuming, mopping, etc. So budget time for that on your last day.
Overall a gorgeous location and cabin for a winter getaway!

Thank you for the kind words regarding our lake home, and so glad you enjoyed your stay. I would like to comment on the sauna. It broke down right before their stay and I was unable to get it repaired in time for them. I warned them 1 week before their stay that it was broke and that I was trying my hardest to get it fixed but this was over the week of Christmas and finding an electrician and then getting the required parts was nearly impossible. I offered her to check in early which she did. In addition, they broke the coffee machine and a ceramic decorative spoon which I did not charge them for. I felt like I was more than fair. I am happy to note that the Sauna was repaired and is working good as new!

Beautiful house but cleanliness was an issue....
The house was beautiful and our kids had fun with several of the amenities(pool table and basketball hoop). However, the overall cleanliness when we arrived was not to the level we would have expected. Bathrooms had hair in tubs(rust stained tubs), throws rugs in bath were also really dirty. There was no hand soap in either bath or the kitchen(we bought our own and left for next guest). We also had to buy trash bags for kitchen trash can(also disgustingly dirty). There was no water softening here which results in a "camp" feel. That is fine if you are paying "camp rates", but we were not. We bought extra bottled water for toothbrushing, coffee making(coffee maker also required a degree), and cooking. Adding the cleaning fee, while asking us to vacuum, clean the kitchen and remove linens just added insult to injury by the end. We ended up feeling like we left the place better than what we recieved and got charged for it!

Hi LIsa, I sure wish you would have made those concerns before you rented. There are garbage bags provided with each rental and hand soap. You must have used all of them. There are extras in the linen closet or under the kitchen/bathroom sinks. The water is from a well so it does have a hint of rust to it, which does over time stain the bath tubs a little. We do in fact have a water softener and softened water and filtered water built into the fridge. You are not in the City anymore, this is the woods. The house was left for you spotless, I personally was there to ensure the house was clean. You are expected to leave the cabin as you found it when checking out, except for the laundry or in your case you paid extra to not have to clean the bathrooms. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the cabin and it's amenities. I sure do wish you would have expressed your concerns before or during your stay as I strive to ensure everyone as a peaceful and enjoyable vacation.
Great time in the Northwoods!! All amenities you would want for a great family vacation. The lake is small but extremely quiet and peaceful. Highly recommend Brad’s getaway. Thanks
We had a wonderful time at the cabin and on the lake. It was amazingly peaceful. We loved kayaking the lake and fishing for bass. The cabin was clean and quiet and the screen porch was a great space to hang out. Thanks for a great vacation!
Had a great stay at Brad's Bass lake cabin! Came to town to visit family and see the Spooner play which was excellent! We had problems getting the Badger basketball tournament game and Brad was awesome walking us through it! But they lost...
Looking forward to next time and the possibility of fishing the lake when it is warmer.
Had a great time at the cabin. Perfect for our stay. Beautiful front porch and screen room to enjoy the lake view. Sat down by the water and enjoyed the quiet private lake. Went into Spooner for shopping and drinks..
This is a phenomenal property. Area is beautiful. Home is amazingly well equipped, better so than any VRBO I have stayed at. The only exception was no really good sharp kitchen knife but no VRBO has ever had that. Bring your own if you want one. Otherwise really well equipped. Their huge griddle was perfect for pancakes and fish fry!! Lake there is catch and release but we had really good success. Most bass smaller but a few big lunkers. We brought Kayaks and went to Lipsett lake 1/4 mile away. Had fantastic success there. Huge fat bass, lots panfish and one pike. Only went there for keeper fish for one fish fry, otherwise really enjoyed fishing right there. at Bass lake. Grill was fantastic. Had a nice fire one night. Went to 26 Lake to beach one day. All in all one of the best trips we have ever had together as a family. Cabin has wonderful screened in area which was well used. Kids enjoyed the pool table and basement. Super comfortable bed in Master. Can catch fish right off dock including a nice sized bass. Could not have been better! A little pricey but so worth it!!
I spent a week in June at this cabin with my daughter and son-in-law. The cabin was in good shape-all appliances functioning - we especially enjoyed the screen porch, the swim raft and the canoe. The lake was clear, no power boats spoiling the tranquility. Close enough to Spooner to enjoy some restaurant meals - WiFi good enough for Zoom business meetings - a lovely week.
Beautiful location, beautiful house. Everything we needed for a relaxing and fun family vacation. Loved the 3 season porch and the lake. Fishing was incredible. Quiet, we hardly saw anyone besides nature the entire week.
Everything we were looking for- beautiful, clean, comfortable place!

I rented this property with a small group of friends during NYE. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience - starting with the close proximity to the Twin Cities. The common areas were ideal for our group size of 6 (3 couples) and the kitchen area & appliances has everything we needed to prepare big group meals. The area is beautiful and secluded enough from neighboring properties for a genuine “cabin escape” vibe. It’s also close enough to get to grocery/liquor stores, bars & restaurants. The only gripe we had was the hot water heater not keeping up after we had a couple showers in a row in the morning. Overall, our crew would strongly recommend this property to others and we would strongly consider staying here again!

Thank you for the kind words and so glad your group had a great time. As with any home, it has a water heater and as such does not produce unlimited hot water. It is an extra large water heater so it has enough hot water to fill the oversized jacuzzi tub. Like all water heaters, if several people are running extended back to back showers it will eventually run out. The cabin is on a septic system, so taking extended showers is frowned upon and could overwhelm the septic system.
We were looking for an alternative to a hotel while staying in town for a hockey tournament. It was perfect for our family of five. Plenty of space to spread out. The only thing the teenagers wished for was more TVs. Ha!
Had a relaxing stay at this cabin property. Check in was smooth. No issues. Looks like it would be even better in the summer with a nice yard and small lake.
It is a beautiful setting and cabin. It was very nicely appointed.
It is as nice as the pictures showed. The cabin was not super clean and the arrangement with the owner is that you clean the cabin before you leave. So, one persons idea of clean is different from another persons. Especially, with today's need for disinfecting.

Thank you for the kind words about our beautiful cabin. The cabin is always left spotless and disinfected for each rental. You are correct that we do expect the cabin to be cleaned prior to leaving. This allows us to have enough time to wash the towels, linens. and fully disinfect the cabin. Can’t wait to have you back again!
We enjoyed everything about the cabin, the location and the lake. Here was each of our absolute favorites: Mom - the boat on the lake, Dad — how nice the cabin was, Anthony — the lake, Madison — the screened in porch and Sebastian — the lake. We range from 58-21 and we have to admit it was hard to come up with the number one thing. We took advantage of all of the wonderful things about the cabin — the sauna, the nice kitchen, the jacuzzi, the paddle boat, the kayak, the games in the cabinet, the wood stove, the fire pit, the dock, and even Spooner itself was so enjoyable.
Brad was great to plan with and all of his tips of things to do were right on.
Highly recommend!
Perfect for a larger group with different age groups. Everyone found something they enjoyed doing, from fishing to spending time in the wonderful screen room. I would definitely return with my family again!

About the host
Hosted by Brad Newbauer
We have dreamed of owning a cabin in the Spooner area for over 15 years. When we found this place we knew it was special and felt like we had to share it with the world. We hope to retire to this place in the future. Our kids love the outdoors and this cabin allows them to experience the the true beauty of Mother Nature and the wonderful seasons of Wisconsin. We live and work in the Twin Cities so this cabin is our get away from it all place.
Why they chose this property
We choose Spooner because we have family in the area. As an avid fisherman, this area is outstanding for all types of fish...from trout to musky, they are all nearby. In the winter we have access to some incredible snowmobiling trails.
What makes this property unique
Our property is unique in that it offers great swimming and fishing but has all the comforts you would expect in a luxury home. From the Bose stereo system that plays in every room of the home (even outside), to the sauna. I think the best feature is the fact that it is so peaceful and serene. I like that we don't have jet ski's and loud boats to listen to or worry about when using the lake, but we have lakes very nearby to go it if we want to partake in those activities. You can count on a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at what we call our Bass Lake Retreat.
