Lovely Casita nestled in the Foothills of Tucson. City lights and spectacular mountain views! This original 1930s Perkins Addition guest ranch adobe casita has been lovingly restored and features 2 ft. adobe walls with true lime plaster (just like San Xavier del Bac Mission). The home has retained all the details of guest ranch charm but has been updated with the modern amenities of European appliances in the kitchen and laundry facility and upgraded spacious bath suite. Mesquite wood and copper countertops complement the original ox blood concrete floors and Douglas fir wood ceilings and doors. The views are panoramic and the home sits on a two acre hilltop lot above the hub of the River walk and the St. Phillips Plaza area. You will feel like part of the old west, but will be conveniently located to the University of Arizona and Downtown Tucson with all of the nightlife, culture and dining at your doorstep. The "chicken coop" features a lighted outdoor entertainment area complete with gas grill and nearby hot tub (great for star gazing).
King-sized bed with upgraded linens and high speed internet complete the adobe retreat. You will never want to leave.
Do not feed wildlife...Javelinas are cute but can be unpredictable!
No glass in Hot Tub Area
Use cutting board when cutting on counter tops (Custom Mesquite wood counter tops)

We have stayed here before and love coming back for the relaxation and ambiance at the casita. It is our late summer get away and never disappoints. The amenities are excellent. We will book again in the future.
We had a wonderful stay at the casita - great location and amenities as well as relaxing time away from home. We have stayed in the foothills before and this is our favorite spot with great city views. Good neighbors to tell us of restaurants we had not found on our own. Best spot to stay!
This is an exceptional adobe home overlooking the desert and mountains in all directions. All the comforts of home with great restaurants close by. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to return some day!
We had a very nice 2 week stay and the house was just as shown in the listing. The house was very clean and relaxing. Neighbors were friendly. The only issues were the toilet room fan (had to turn on twice to run) and the oven (difficult to figure out even with instructions). Overall it was a very good experience and we would certainly go back next year.
This is the real deal. Views from property are breathtaking. The house is comfortable and has everything you need. Location is great and owner was very pleasant and responsive.
We have been to several places over the years and this place will stay with us as one of the best places we have been to! It has such awesome views and it's nice and private. I enjoyed all the wonderful extra amenities, like the hot tub, filtered water, BBQ and so much else! We would love to come again!
My wife and I just came off a 16 day stay at this very special authentic Adobe casita. Everything about it was fantastic, with its old world desert charm. We look forward to returning again.

Beautiful!
I was expecting this property to be great, just from the photos, but it exceeded all of my expectations! It is immaculately maintained, well appointed, and so welcoming! The location is perfect for my needs - and that view! I look forward to staying here again. My new favorite in Tucson!
The casita is in a pleasant neighborhood perched on a ridge at the very end of the street. At times you can hear some traffic from below, but not enough to bother the tranquillity. There is a city view with distant mountains from the back patio and a stunning mountain view from the front. Unique style in furnishings and design. We did have to get used to the kitchen utilities! There is no oven; instead, an induction stovetop and a "very smart" microwave. Once mastered, no problem. Desert hiking trails are nearby and also all town conveniences. We enjoyed our stay!

Spectacular and Memorable Experience
Jose's adobe was amazing and fabulous. The adobe itself has been renovated with the utmost detail and with all topnotch appliances and amenities one would need.
The property itself is large and very private. The outdoor grill / picnic area is a great place to enjoy eating outside (nicely tiled picnic table) - there were other areas to lounge / relax. It is also close to many good restaurants and many superb golf courses within a twenty-ish minute drive.
Jose was a gracious host - easy to contact and responded always immediately. He was very welcoming and made check-in and check-out easy.
All in all, we had a wonderful stay that well exceeded expectations. It was the best VRBO/Homeaway stay and definitely looking forward to coming back in the near future.
I would highly recommend.
My second time staying here, and I love it! It is now my home away from home in Tucson. The house is immaculately maintained and clean, with all of the amenities one could ever need. I love the fully-appointed kitchen, with the tools to make anything from a cup of coffee to a full meal. The owner clearly loves this house, and each of the little touches in every room and on the grounds make it feel like home - if I had better decorating taste and an awesome house on a hill. lol. I am moving in, J! Just kidding...sort of. :) Thank you! I will be back!

Absolutely lovely!
This was our first stay in Tuscon and I hope it won't be our last. The casita was immaculately clean upon our arrival, and it is beautifully designed and decorated. Such a sweet bungalow! The furnishings are elegant but comfortable, and the bed linens are luxurious. The kitchen has brand new appliances and is adequately stocked if you prefer to prepare your meals at home, and there is an outdoor grill. Our host even included dishwashing soap, paper towels, and bathroom toiletries, all of which were very much appreciated. Although the property feels quite private, there is easy access to restaurants and shopping and the AMAZING bike path that runs throughout the city. We enjoyed postcard-worthy sunsets from the back porch, and our host graciously came to our rescue when we couldn't figure out how to operate the hot tub. We highly recommend this intimate setting!
Beautiful well outfitted Adobe House with stunning views of the Catalinas from one patio and downtown Tucson from the other. Located near East River Rd and N Campbell with easy access to restaurants and shopping. Would stay here again!
The casita was the perfect blend of simplification and appointment. The outside areas are positioned well to view the lights of Tucson and the mountains to the north and east of the property. The landscaping and plants are perfectly placed to allow privacy (hot tub) without sacrificing the views. J (the owner) was super-responsive and we couldn't have asked for a better "home base" to explore the area. All-in-all, one of the top VRBO properties we've stayed in.
We loved this neighborhood, with its dirt road and fun places to walk. It was very convenient, fairly centrally located to hiking that we did every day. We loved the hot tub and outdoor fireplace, and had guests at the outdoor table by the chicken coop. The house looked exactly like the photos and the bed was quite comfortable. Working with the owner on a couple small issues was super-quick. Hope to stay again!
The word Casita doesn’t quite capture this place. It’s more like a small luxury residence. The architecture, quality of the materials, interior design and furnishings are luxurious. We highly recommend this place. We enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset from the hot tub. It’s conveniently located to everything. Thank you
The casita was the perfect size for two people. Fully equipped. Great location , close to hiking, shopping, golf, etc. lovely, authentic furnishings. Felt we were part of a real neighborhood.
We had a wonderful time in Tucson and Jose casita was just perfect. The house is well appointed and had everything we needed. The nice detail of pastries and beverages was a treat. The hot tub was perfect for relaxing after a long day in the city or parks. We would love to visit again and would definitely book the casita again.
Fantastic time in a beautiful location. Surrounded by mountains and stunning sunrises and sunsets. Long hikes and home cooked meals in a well stocked kitchen yet, close enough to delicious tacos and margaritas. We spent three weeks and wished it could have been longer. Excellent hosts! We Thank you
Wonderful Casita with great views, location and privacy
House was lovely and even better than the photos. Owner and property manager were attentive, checking in regularly via messages. We highly recommend and would stay there again if/when back in Tucson.
If you’re looking for an escape you can’t find a better place in Tucson. Immaculate, tasteful, fully stocked, all the amenities you could ever ask for, and views to die for. I absolutely loved staying at this location and will stay here every time I visit Tucson if I can help it.

Elegance and sophistication meets Old West charm!
Good Wi-Fi and smart TV, all the latest European appliances in a wonderfully restored 1930’s era home, with exposed beams and roof boards, thick adobe walls, and period furniture. Spacious, accessible home, with three patios (one covered), outdoor heater and grill, in-ground hot tub, this place has every accoutrement.
But the best part are the views. Sunrise over the Rincon Mountains? Check. Sunsets over the Tucson Mountains. Check. Panoramic view of the city of Tucson and the distant Sierrita and Santa Rita Mountains. Check. Santa Catalina Mountains so close you feel like you could reach out and touch them? Check. Everywhere you look, gorgeous views are right there.
Close to the city, fairly close to shopping and dining (including the El Corral and Anthony’s Cigar Emporium within walking distance. We loved our stay and would stay again when we return to Tucson.
Thanks Jay! It was really difficult returning to snow covered Minnesota!

About the host
Hosted by Jose Kovrig "J"
I am a designer and home builder. I am a native of Tucson and love the desert and all it has to offer. I am delighted to share my special and unique home with adventurers that enjoy unusual and historic properties (but also like the comforts of upscale amenities).
Why they chose this property
This property was shown to me by the owner, a 90 year old gentleman, who enjoyed it as his winter home for many years. He was the second owner after the Perkins'. I was given the opportunity to purchase it from him because he knew I would honor and restore the home without losing the history or charm of the original dude ranch beginnings.
What makes this property unique
A mud adobe house is a living breathing structure. The mud came from the Rillito river and the property itself. It is cool during the hot days and snug and warm in the cool desert evenings. The house has no paint on the walls, rather lime plaster was used to restore the walls to their original luster. The lime plaster, hardens and resists water, but allows the home to breathe as latex paint would not. The cabinets, though new, were hand built by craftsmen and the doors and ceilings are of Douglas fir native to Northern Arizona and are original to the home. Mesquite and copper countertops (also native to Arizona) were also hand crafted. Water, being the most precious resource of the desert is conserved through a gray water system on the property. This home is perfectly suited to the Sonoran Desert environment and the lot has many old saguaros. The original "chicken coop" has been retained and is now a wonderful outdoor dining space. The high quality doors and windows provide great insulation, but are situated to proved cross breezes during the delightful 75 degree winter days. I hope you will enjoy the thought and detail that was given to this restoration as much as I have enjoyed making it happen.
