About this property

Tall pines & lake view. Perfect location ctr of MDI! Close trails. Local owners

Ideally situated in the center of Mount Desert Island, Echo Pines Cottage is the perfect "home away from home" for vacation activities. It's only minutes from popular "quiet side" trails, including stunning Acadia and Beech Mountains. The entrance to Acadia's pristine, swimmable Echo Lake is only 3 miles away. You'll enjoy a view of the northern section of Echo Lake from the cottage's front windows.

The house sits on 1.5 wooded acres, on a private road. The home is surrounded by tall pines and birch trees. Watch for deer that regularly pass through the yard, and listen for the call of the loons from the lake.

Enjoy eating around the wood- topped kitchen island, or sit by the bay windows looking toward the water.

The cottage is private, but close to all the activities the island has to offer. "Downtown" Bar Harbor is about 15 minutes away, and quaint Southwest Harbor is less than 10.

The house has been outfitted for your comfort, including premium mattresses and many kitchen conveniences and amenities. You'll love the whimsical, "Maine" character of the place. And we take pride in having a spotless cottage!

There are two bedrooms, both with queen-size beds, plus a queen-size pull-out couch with memory foam mattress in the living area and a full size futon couch / bed in the back reading room. The reading room can be closed off for privacy. There are two full bathrooms, both with showers and tubs, one upstairs and one down.

The kitchen is fully appointed, ready for family meals and gatherings! You'll find many basic kitchen staples, like standard spices, cooking oil, and storage wraps provided for you. We also stock condiments in the fridge.

In the basement there's a washer and dryer for your use. Laundry detergent is provided. There's also a ping pong table, ready for those family tournaments.

We, the owners, are local, living on the west side of Bar Harbor, so we're intimately familiar with the area and are ready if you have any issues or questions.

We make every effort to go above and beyond for visitors to MDI. We love the island and truly enjoy sharing it with those who come to experience this fabulous national park. Our goal is that you leave loving Acadia National Park and MDI as much as we do.

Our family of four had a fabulous stay here, and we would have loved to stay longer! The location is quiet and scenic, the kitchen is well stocked, the beds are very comfortable, and we even made use of the ping pong table one rainy afternoon. The location provided easy access to Acadia, Southwest Harbor (where we did a Sail Acadia cruise), Bar Harbor, and various other points of interest. The spacious, well stocked kitchen made for easy meal preparation, and we appreciated being able to use the washer and dryer as well. All in all, a perfect stay, and I would highly recommend this place!

There is traffic noise from route 3 which can be heavy during the day on weekend but not as bad at night. Hosts very accommodating and felt like they cared about your stay.

The cottage was amazing! Private and had a view of the lake. Super clean and had everything we needed. 15-20minutes to pretty much everything the area has to offer. The owners were quick to answer any questions and had great recommendations. I would give it more than 5 stars.

An absolute gem of a property! Located in the quiet woods with great view of Lake Echo yet a quick drive to the major Acadia locations. We were able to get to all of our destinations and find parking without issue because of the accessibility. The home has everything a family needs to have a wonderful vacation, including a mini-trail my kids loved. The owners have one of the most insightful packets we’ve ever had that helped us find new things to do with our kids. We plan to stay here when we return to Acadia again someday.

This property by far exceeded our expectations! The home was stocked with everything we needed. It was clean and just a beautiful setting. We enjoyed grilling after a long day at the park. We even saw deers one evening while sitting out back! The host was quick to answer any questions and had a welcome sign and chocolate blueberries upon arrival! I would absolutely recommend this location and home!

Great stay!

Excellent property, very clean and well stocked down to the details. Centrally located with easy access to Acadia, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor, etc. Gracious hosts who do everything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It was everything we wanted out of a vacation rental. Would highly recommend and we hope to be back!

We are lucky to be year 'round residents of Mount Desert Island, where we enjoy a huge variety of activities in Acadia National Park - hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming - even cross-country skiing in the winter! We live on the west side of Bar Harbor, in a home that we rented to summer guests for years, and we found that we love renting to folks who want to enjoy the wonders of Acadia.

We both love managing Echo Pines Cottage and gake satisfaction in providing a place for guests to connect, enjoy time together, and experience the treasures of Acadia National Park. Our goal is for guests to have a fantastic experience and to leave loving Mount Desert Island as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

As soon as we saw Echo Pines Cottage we knew it was the perfect spot for people who want to experience Mount Desert Island. The wooded property, the central location, its portrait view of Echo Lake... we knew vacationers would love it! We set out to outfit it with comfortable, fun furnishings and make it special. Curt loves to build furniture and he's had a blast making pieces for the house - everything from the kitchen island to the bedside tables.
This is a charming property on a private road, yet in a location that makes exploring the whole island easy. It's where we'd want to stay if we were visiting!!
