Perched on the cliffs of Hawaiian Paradise Park, this oceanfront escape offers sweeping views of the Pacific and an expansive wraparound deck perfect for grilling, dining, or spotting whales, turtles, and dolphins. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors let you enjoy the ocean’s beauty from nearly every room.

Perfect for a family getaway or a romantic retreat (proposals have even happened on the deck!), Hale Kai is a peaceful haven with easy access to nearby attractions. You’ll be just 17 miles from Hilo, 12 miles from Kapoho, and minutes from a local park, scenic jungle trail to Ha‘ena (Shipman) Beach, and Orchidland’s cafés and shops. Pahoa’s charming town center is 10 miles away, and Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is about a 30-mile drive.

Very nice spot for vacation!

Beautiful home and views

Property manager was so helpful in getting us into the home when the door code didn’t work. The sea turtles and dolphins were the best surprise! We loved the view of the cliffs. Only drawback is no AC even with all the fans but they had so many items ready for a vacation outside, we didn’t mind too much.

First, the location and the view from this home is spectactular! The waves crashing off of the lava cliffs is beautiful and a reson we always stop through Hilo on a trip to the islands.Unfortunately once you get inside the house the experience changes. The house is clean and safe but looks to be in the same condition today as it was when built many years ago. The amenities are dated and the house needs updated in most ways.A major issue that I had were the excessive fees so please look inot these before booking. The expenses were lumped into two categories, fees and the VRBO fee. The two fees accounted for 86% of the total bill and this did not include taxes, if you include taxes the fees and tax were 117% of the booking fee for the house. Another home we stayed at had a fee ratio of 29% vs the 86% here. I don't know if this is the owners or their rental company but I would either reduce the fees or take some of that money and upgrade the place.It is a beautiful view though!

The perfect oceanfront retreat awaits! This home has a wonderful covered patio that runs the length of the ocean side of the home. It’s a perfect place to hang out in the shade and take in the spectacular view. The home is nicely furnished and very comfortable and family-friendly. Great views

While the interior was a bit dated and beds not too comfy, the views were outstanding. Sunrise never got old even on a cloudy or rainy morning. We’d choose this again if we return to the big island.

Lovely home

Lovely home on quiet street. This home is nestled at the back edge of the enormous neighborhood of HPP. It is directly on the ocean cliffs with dramatic views of the ocean. The whole house opens up to let in the cooling breezes and sounds of crashing waves. The home is very well equipped (kitchen, laundry and comfy beds) and lots of privacy but a short drive to grocery stores or downtown Hilo.

Great ocean front property.

This property has everything you need. Great cooling breezes off the ocean front deck keeps the entire house comfortable and makes for great sleeping. The home has everything you need if you want to cook in and is very well maintained. Thanks to the owners for providing such a great rental.

Loved the quiet

It is a well-kept property. We really enjoyed the sunrise and the view from the terrace.You do need a car and it is quite far from all amenities, but if you don't mind, it is really a nice place to stay. The beds are comfy, we didnt need aircon, as there was always a breeze, only at night, the mosquitoes can be a little annoying outside, but all windows have mosquitoe nets.Lighting could have been a bit better in the second bathroom, but that is complaining on a high level. We would definitely recommend it for couples.
