Another great time in Beautiful home & perfect location
This was our 4th year in this beautiful home that’s close to everything: Sponge Docks, Spring Bayou, Bike trails,Tarpon Ave shops & restaurant. Hosts are very responsive and great communicators. This is our home away from home every March & we can’t wait to return!
Always an enjoyable stay at the Captains Quarters! Owners are very responsive and keep the house neat and clean with everything needed for a wonderful stay. The location is perfect being within walking distance to the Sponge Docks, Spring Bayou and restaurants/shops on Tarpon Ave. Looking forward to staying again in March.
We loved everything about our stay! The house was beautiful and well maintained in a very convenient location. Easy to walk to downtown, quiet, and comfortable! We plan on staying at this house again.
Everything was spotless, the house was well furnished and there were a lot of essentials (if you forgot ) like shampoo and after sun lotion…. Really close
location to the sponge docks.
John and Lisa were the nicest host anyone could imagine.
We were a group of friends staying for a quick visit. It was beautiful, spacious, well equipped and perfect location. Also, it was a short Walking distance to restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again.
John and Lisa were great hosts. The house was extremely clean and perfectly located in Tarpon. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a location that is convenient and walkable to the majority of the down town area. Will definitely be visiting again.
Awesome Home, Located in the Heartbeat of Tarpon Springs
We were looking for a short getaway to meet up with Friends from Punta Gorda and landed at Tarpon Springs. While we had been through the area many times by boat hadn’t stayed on land. When searching for a home this one stood out, we found the home better than the pictures used to illustrate it. There was ample brochures and menus to use to help guide decisions, coffee (pods and grounds) to the day started with and a “Florida Wraparound porch” with rockers to enjoy each cup and conversation! AC worked great, the high ceilings and ceiling fans added to the era when the home was originally built! If you can book it, you will be a hero for your party, it won’t disappoint. One added bonus is the follow-up of the host John & Lisa to be sure your expectations are met!
We had such a lovely time in Tarpon Springs and the Captain's Quarters is a beautiful, ideally located place to stay. This home feels like home! The owners are wonderful, super responsive and are right on top of maintaining and caring for this property. The home is spacious, comfortable and perfectly furnished with everything you could possibly need. We would love to stay here again when we come back!
Check in was flawless, our stay was beyond easy.
The home had everything we could have though of needing. It was so close to downtown Tarpon Springs we walked every time we wanted to go down there.
The checkout instructions we clearly posted and easy to follow.
This is our 2nd stay at this well appointed and spacious home with a big comfortable porch. It has a well stocked kitchen and all the amenities one needs; including items for the beach. The location is perfect; very walkable to the Sponge Docks, Spring Bayou and Tarpon Ave restaurants and shops. The owners take great pride in their place and are very accommodating and responsive. We just love this place and are returning next year!!
Beautifully decorated but also very comfortable. Plenty of everything-supplies, very nice well equipped kitchen, lots of towels, and comfortable beds and bedding. Walking distance to anything you would want to do or see in Tarpon Springs. Great owner who checked on us. We would highly recommend staying here.

About the host
Hosted by John and Lisa Glenzer
John and I have painstakingly renovated this wonderful 100 year old house and have made sure everything has been done to impeccable standards. We took our time and made it a family adventure. There isn't one aspect of the property that hasn't been touched, upgraded or redesigned. There is a story behind every room and the decorating reflects our family's history. The reference to "Captain" has multiple meanings, John's Dad was a US Navy Captain, My Dad was an Airline Captain and the original owner of the house was a fishing Captain that allowed his crew to live upstairs, while he and his wife lived downstairs. All of our wonderful neighbors are of Greek heritage and most were born and raised in the house they still live in. They watched us bring this property back from years of neglect. John and I joke that we should've filmed a hit TV show, named "The Bickersons build a house". The end result is an amazing, comfortable home we are sure you'll want to come back to time and time again.
Why they chose this property
I am a licensed realtor in my "off" hours and had a client who was interested in flipping houses in the Tarpon Springs area because he knew the history and value of this remarkable area and would make any property a solid investment. I took my buyer to the house and he said " Wow, this is a really cool house, but there is just too much work to do here and it will take too long and cost a fortune to bring it back to life. " While he was saying that, I was falling in love with the house and wanted John to look at it. We instantly shared a vision. So we bought it and started the monumental task that became our dream and passion. 10 years later, we look back and know that we might've changed our minds many times and had many arguments between us that tested our love, but in the end, we both know the vision we had so many years ago has been greatly exceeded by the finished project. We both love smelling the nearby bakeries, walking through an art fair, doing a "wine walk", or taking our boat out into the Gulf. Someday, we will retire and call this our home base, but until then, we want to share it with people who will also fall in love with what we saw in the house, the neighborhood and the city. Enjoy! OPA!!!!!!
What makes this property unique
There are so many things to list as unique benefits, but one that most all of our guests will share are the outstanding selection of amazing restaurants all within walking distance, Our favorite is Rusty Bellies for seafood, and there are so many very authentic Greek restaurants to choose from along with brew pubs, tap houses and sports bars to fit anyone's tastes! Walking to everything will help you see all the sights and burn off some of the calories you'll be taking in!
