Amber was great … because she responded to questions almost immediately and we felt cared for. The house was awesome … because it was clean, organized and the attention to detail was obvious. The breakfast snacks, English muffins, bagels and cream cheese were thoughtful. Overall, the house definitely added to our memorable weekend.
We were in town for a wedding and this was a great spot to stay the night. Clean, plenty of room and next door to a coffee shop. Would definitely recommend!
We really enjoyed our one night stay, what an interesting and beautiful house! We would like to come back when we have more time to stay. The house was huge and everything we needed was provided for us
Two mummies and two sets of twins.
We stayed one night so that we could be close to an event the next day.
We had a great experience - the building is huge - tons of space for the kids to play board games; big comfy sofas for the mums to have wine and coffee; very close to a few places for dinner. We went to Hound Song as suggested by our friendly host.
100% recommended as an overnight or weekend stay.
I was pleasantly surprised with our family stay at The Carriage Step!! Our family is all spread out between Austin, Houston & San Antonio. We picked Columbus as a mid point to meet & have our early family Christmas together here. We walked to the Santa Museum & antique shops. We opened our gifts around one of the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. We watched Christmas movies & drank coffee & tea with one of their many gorgeous tea sets in the sun room. The beds were comfy & everything was clean. We will most definitely be back soon!!
This is a beautiful old home. The owner is nice but very hard to communicate with unless you call her, I do know she is busy and the house is for sale. My experience probably isn’t normal but I had to call to get my check in information. I did have a question about breakfast being included but never got an answer. There was some packets of oatmeal and continental stuff on the counter.
My sister-in-law and I were delighted the moment we laid eyes on Amber’s Carriage house. It is charming both inside and out and provided the best weigh station for us as we toodled around Round Top. We had so much room to relax, whether in the Tv room with a glass of wine or on the back deck with a cup of coffee. The beds were comfortable, the ambience was perfect, and Amber was accessible to us when we had questions about local restaurants or needed help at the property. We definitely recommend you visit!
This was a lovely and historic home! It has old world charm yet it is totally updated. Our rooms were beautifully decorated and so very comfortable. The back porch was spacious and my granddaughter was delighted to find a bowl of snacks and treats provided by the owner. As we were leaving one evening I thought the keyless entry lock might be acting funny. I contacted Amber and she immediately replied and had already changed the batteries before we returned. She responded promptly to all my messages before, during and even after our stay! You will love staying here. I highly recommend !!
This is a beautiful, very spacious old home that has almost been totally updated. Was very surprised to see that the master bath has a walk-in shower - a welcome sight for a gimpy old lady. On the other hand, about the only thing not updated is the old tub in the other bath. It would be difficult for some of us to “ climb “ in and out of it , and it has seen better days. It has, however, been retrofitted to serve as a shower as well.
A word of caution to those with mobility issues : there are a number of varying floor elevations throughout the home - none very steep, but a possible trip hazard for some. Having said these things, we thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend. The home is very comfortable and family friendly. There’s a beautiful kitchen and areas to spread out and relax. Your host is very generous with snacks and beverages - more than any place we’ve previously stayed.. There’s a large back yard.
The location is at the edge of downtown steps from a fairly busy street. There are trains passing frequently which bothered a few of us. Having grown up near RR tracks, I enjoyed it myself. Our 15 year old grandson was fascinated with the construction of the house and the architecture of it and many of the surviving old buildings in town. The 11 year old enjoyed the yard, porches and goodies.
I highly recommend the home and the town, as well as several nearby small towns . Good food and friendly people to be found - a welcome slower pace of life . We hope to return .
We loved our very short stay. We needed a place to stay for one night, to rest as a family, and to do laundry. It was exactly what we needed and more! We loved the charm of this home, and the kids loved exploring every little unique corner of the house. Their imaginations were running wild while they were there! The house is creaky (built in the 1800s!) and the train will wake you up if you are a light sleeper, but they provided ear plugs for that if you need them. Would definitely stay here again with our family of four!
Property is lovely - Amber was the hostess with the mostest! I celebrated my birthday in Columbus and enjoyed the brewery and a local restaurant. Relaxing and fun... will come back asap. 5 star stay.
The pictures of this property cannot possibly capture all of it’s charm and history !! We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy this darling home filled with so much character.

About the host
Hosted by Amber Becerra
Columbus is my hometown, which I moved back to in 2013 after living in various towns and cites. I moved back to start a local event venue and in 2017, I purchased this gorgeous home as part of that venture. I love live music, animals, and travel. I am the mom of a spunky 4 year old and live just outside of town with my husband on a small farm with a variety of cows, horses, chickens, ducks, guineas, dogs and cats.
When not involved at home or my two businesses, I also serve as Vice President of our board of directors for our Chamber of Commerce, and am chairperson for our large Magnolia Days Festival.
I love this community and this town, and I also love seeing the world and do it as often as I can. I hope you find the same love of our town as I do and enjoy its rich history and great people
Why they chose this property
The Carriage Step is full of history and charm. Its spacious enough to relax, but comfy enough to feel like you never left home. I love this home, and I so proud to be its owner, and hope you love it as much as I do.
