The "Ray's Random Point" is a quiet, isolated oasis on 300 feet of Lake Superior beach, trout pond, and 10 wooded acres. *Please note*… We offer two different lodging experiences on this property. The main home and the apartment above the detached garage.
This is the U.P. at it's finest. This enchanted location is only 5 miles from downtown Marquette with easy access to Northern Michigan University, numerous restaurants, shops, hiking & biking trails, and regional events. After turning off the main road, you will meander 1/2 mile down a paved and gravel driveway through the woods and down toward majestic Lake Superior. Upon arrival, you will hear birds, the wind through the trees, and the water lapping (or crashing!). We adore this place because of the peacefulness and isolation, yet convenience to town.
The house is accessed via a short walking bridge over a constantly-running stream. This stream flows out of the spring-fed trout pond.
* This house was built by our parents. It is now a multi-family-owned treasure. All of the siblings still use the property periodically. This means that unlike a hotel, we are sharing our HOME with you. The goal is for you to feel welcome and at home. Our parents loved to share this special place with many people. We purposely leave clean slippers and jackets at the front door for your comfort. You will see family photos on the wall. Two closets hold family items and are not to be used by guests. Otherwise, please make yourself at home and enjoy!
* Please be cognizant of the signage defining the property line. Our property line is defined by either end of the private cove. Please do not go beyond that as it is our neighbors' property.
*Please note: For November-April rentals, 4WD or AWD vehicle is REQUIRED to navigate the steep hill. * The main living space is on the 2nd floor (which means amazing views, and also stairs). * You will have a fully stocked kitchen to prepare all your meals. Fully stocked means high-quality pots, pans, appliances, oil, spices, coffee, and tea. * Sleeping set-up: Bedroom #1 s on the 2nd floor, and has a king-size bed, with French-door access to a deck overlooking Lake Superior. Bedroom #2 is on the 1st floor, has a queen-size bed, also with French-door access to a deck overlooking the lake. There is a large loft running the entire length of the house which is accessed via a sturdy ladder, and has two, single mattresses. Maximum number of guests is six. * All linens are 100% cotton. And there are plenty of comfy pillows. * Vaulted ceiling, and lots of windows. * Water: The tap water is perhaps the best water you will ever taste. Comes fresh from a well and springs on the property. (tested regularly) * Two outside decks (one with a roof) with outdoor seating and grill. * Wi-Fi and cable TV. The system was recently upgraded so you have very good internet access. Cell reception is spotty. Texting works fine, but phone calls may be challenging. * TV in the livingroom. The downstairs bedroom also has a TV. (But the Lake may be more entertaining) * Short, sandy trail down to the beach. Shallow, sandy cove for swimming. There is currently a small sandy beach. Please know that Lake Superior is very dynamic. We have had a huge beach and we have had a rocky beach. Literally, because of the high water, the beach now changes week to week depending upon water and wind movement. We can not guarantee what the beach will look like. Talk to Grandmother Gitchee Gumee (Lake Superior) about that. * We do NOT provide kayaks or any watercraft. You may bring your own. If you do, please bring life jackets as well. * A/C * For November-April rentals, 4WD or AWD vehicle is REQUIRED to navigate the steep hill. * There is a beautiful, new sauna that is shared between the two rentals on the property. It seats 6-8 people and has large picture windows with stunning views of Lake Superior. Please be considerate and keep the sauna clean by using a towel to sit on and leaving your shoes outside the door as the sauna is shared between the two rentals. Please be conscientious and respectful of the other guests when using the sauna. * The fish in the pond are like pets. Please, no fishing. * Only two vehicles allowed. * Please remove shoes at the door to minimize sand and dirt in the home. * Absolutely no vaping or smoking indoors. * Maximum number of guests is six. * No parties, events, or gatherings beyond the number of guests staying unless approved by the owners. * No bonfires on the beach unless ok-ed by us as there are times fire danger is very high. * Please put all garbage inside the garbage cans and the recycling inside the containers right inside the garage door next to the stairs on the west side of the garage. When leaving, please put all garbage up in the bin on the side at the entrance off of 550. * We love dogs, but if you are traveling with your dog, please do not let them run freely or onto the neighbors property. And, please be conscientious of other guests possibly staying at the other rental as not everyone Is a dog lover. Lastly, please wash and dry them off before letting them in the house, if they are muddy and no pets allowed on the furniture. * You will likely be overwhelmed by Lake Superior expanding in front of your house. However, you may also be enchanted by a spring fed pond resting alongside the driveway with Blue Heron, Mallard Ducks, Kingfisher, and Bull Frogs. Yet of more interest to some are the Brook and Rainbow trout hidden within the pond. We have provided fish food pellets and feeding them is a delight. (Please, NO fishing)
Access to trails: 1 mile to Sugarloaf 2 miles to Hogsback, North Country Trail and Noquemanon Trails 4 miles to Little Presque Isle and Harlow Lake And many, many more....!

Jen and Lizzy were EXCELLENT hosts and the property was FANTASTIC!Our weather went from extremely hot (100) to downright cold by the end of the week (50s). The views and the SAUNA were excellent!
This is our new go to in Marquette! We love seeing and talking to Jennifer and Lizzy. The house and grounds are so quiet. My favorite spot is up the hill on the rock looking out over the bay while listening to the wind chimes.
The home captured what anyone would want when they are vacationing in the UP. The views of the lake are stunning and the house was very comfortable for our family to stay in. It is far enough from town to be secluded but in a location that everything is easy to get to. We had a fantastic stay!
Have been coming to Marquette with a group of friends in September for the past ten years. This is easily the most beautiful property we have found to stay at. Could not recommend this property enough to anyone who is in need of either a quiet secluded getaway or has a large family (if you got the apartment garage rental that my group did not need) that wants bonding time with a private beachfront.
Beautiful views surround this UP jewel. So great to watch Mother Superior shift her moods whilst in the protection of a sturdy "treehouse". Quality products throughout esp in the kitchen & bath. Beds were very comfortable. Living room furniture was a cool modern look, but a physical challenge for tall folks with bad backs (low to the ground & not comfortable). Overall great location!
Immaculate property with a view to die for. Pictures do NOT do it justice!! My friends and I had planned to go to downtown Marquette but the home and property were so beautiful that we ended up staying there the entire time. We were nervous that the beach may be rocky, but it was one of the sandiest beaches I’ve ever been on, even pretty far out into the water. Great home for any group of people to enjoy. Quite a few small trinkets in the home so beware if you have little ones (mine were not with me so it was a non-issue). Truly my only complaint is the kitchen table and the chairs with it just do not work together, your legs can’t get under the table. However, that was a VERY minor blip in an otherwise perfect long weekend. Thank you to the owners for sharing this beautiful property.
The view is outstanding! We loved sitting out on the covered deck and listening to the water. Made for a very relaxing week. The owners were very responsive and friendly. The wifi was great and worked well the entire time we were there. The house is very private and quiet yet is close enough to Marquette to drive into town for dinner or to pickup something from the store. We would definitely come back here again!
Incredible location, beautiful house, only 4 stars
The online photos do not really show how incredible the view and location are. It was stunning! Location 6 stars out of 5. The owners were very responsive and helpful in all communications.
So why not 5 stars?
When we arrived at the house there were shoes at the front door, coats on the rack, fresh meat in the refrigerator, mail on the counters, jewelry in the bathroom, and clothes in all the closets. I phoned the contact number as I assumed there was a mistake with the booking and someone else was staying in the house. I was reassured they were expecting us and this is the way the house is as the owners use it regularly. Like other postings, I found this a bit weird and strange. One of our party had no issues with this at all, but i always felt someone else was staying there. The downstairs wing was nice with the bedroom having it's own bathroom, but no closet.
That said, I would request stay here again! That view........

Our goal is to balance an 'at home' feeling with a little clean, pristine hotel feel. The slippers at the front door are for guests to use as we ask that people remove their shoes in the house. We do wash the slippers. The coats are also for guests to use since many people underestimate the cold wind around Lake Superior.
The walk-in closet is closed off for guests as it has clothes that family uses when they visit. There are two other closets for guests to use. One in the master bedroom which has only linens and the front entrance closet which has coats but space that guests can hang other things.
Our stay at this quiet, isolated oasis on Lake Superior was very peaceful and relaxing. The location was convenient to things we wanted to do and the home provided a great place to rest and enjoy the view which was beautiful. The beach was rocky while we there but it was enjoyable to walk around and look for unique rocks. Swimming was refreshing! Feeding the trout in the nearby pond with the food provided was also fun. There was a brief water supply issue, but the owners were very responsive and it was fixed the next morning. I would recommend this spot for anyone looking for a peaceful stay on the lake shore.
The setting of the house and overall location were beautiful! However, there were a couple of negatives about the visit. The first was that the VRBO listing showed a trout pond, but said nothing about the fact that you were not allowed to fish in it (which we learned once we arrived at the house). The second was that the house was filled with the personal effects of the couple who had lived there. From what I could glean from some Google-sleuthing, it is my understanding that the couple passed away about a year and a half ago and that the house was currently owned by the children of the couple. However, the couples' personal effects had not been fully removed from the house. There were clothes and jewelry in the closet, a fridge full of outdated food items, personal banking information and even medicine cabinets with medications in them. Though this might seem like a trivial complaint to some, it made myself and my family feel as though we were intruding as unwelcome guests into someone's home. For this home to be a successful vacation rental, I would strongly suggest that the owners remove the personal items from the home. I understand that it can be a difficult thing to go through a loved ones things after they have passed, but I feel that it is worse to allow strangers to traipse into a loved one’s home without first removing all of the personal affects. Additionally, there were some maintenance items that should be addressed - there was a light bulb burned out in the shower, a non-functioning drain in the bath tub and the kitchen appliances could use some upgrading. The final negative was regarding the check-out process. In my stays at other vacation rentals, there is always a notebook with the dos/don'ts of a property and what to do when leaving the property (where to take the trash, etc). The only "rules" I could find were, "don't fish in the trout pond and don't climb on the island off the coast". However, I will say that the property manager was very quick to respond to the 2 text messages I sent regarding whether the alcohol and food left in the fridge was available for our use and where the garbage cans were. All in all, the rental could be a great choice for a stay in Marquette as long as the above is addressed.
What a fabulous place. I brought two teen boys, both over 6' tall, and my teen daughter and we had the greatest time. Plenty of fabulous beds , and the boys took the loft aka "bro zone" . Pictures cant show how amazing this place is. The house was seriously thought out and from what I can tell, this was a family's dream retreat. Kids really enjoyed the pictures everywhere of the owners with all the people and kids. The beach is classic Lake Superior, crystal clear and the views off the rock outcrops are unsurpassed. My eldest loved to sit n have coffee on the Adairondaks up on the cliff. Fish pond was great they come right up to be fed. We hiked the rocky shore, spent some time in Marquette ( minuits away and a vibrant exciting town). Hiked Sugar loaf mtn trail and just enjoyed the rugged Superior setting. We had read bugs were going to be bad but we only had minor bugs at dusk and the rest of the time nothing, so don't let that throw you off. The house is totally set up, especially liked the beds. Kitchen was clean and cool, kinda retro too. Internet was great. Views from nearly every window and the breakfast view is superb, we watched the sun come up over pancakes. Cannot say enough about this place, and what a great family place this must have been for years! Hope to get back, marked on our favorites
The house was simple and tasteful. No phone signal inside the house (calm down, there's wifi) was an added bonus. There are board games, a large basket of toys, binoculars, and numerous other little things to keep you occupied in case you get bored of staring at the lake. I'd definitely consider a trip up to Marquette to stay in Christopher's house again.
