We loved the space the seven of us had in the seaside home - even had room for my morning yoga.
Great location for getting into Ventnor on foot and Bonchurch beach was easily walkable. Only downside was the road leading to Shanklin, but that was also handy for our day trips.

Thanks for being great guests and pleased that you had a wonderful stay.
Very attractive property with lots of room and best of all, one bedroom in which the 3 boys under 8 could all share. Well equipped, lots of stuff you don't need, but nice to know it's available. Huge fridge and freezer. Nice dining area in the conservatory which we used all the time. Some minor niggles, and let's face it, there are always some! Curtains/blinds let the light in very early, making it harder to sleep a bit longer. There was a lot of dust not cleaned as well as dog hairs , and the garden smelled very badly of urine after the rain. The en suite shower does leak (uneven floor) so an extra towel for the floor is useful. Found Ventnor to be a little less attractive than expected, and probably wouldn't stay there again. Neighbours in the annexe were very noisy for 2 nights of our 5 night stay. Excellent communications from the owner, cannot complain there at all and kindly sent our left behind keys without delay, so thank you!

Thank you very much for your review & kind words but would just like to take the opportunity to respond to a couple of your niggles. The blinds are in fact newly fitted black out blinds, but of course some light will come in around the edges, as is the nature of blinds. We can assure you that the property has a two person 5 hour changeover clean after every guest leaves. We are pet friendly and obviously make every effort to ensure clear of all dust and hairs etc, but the nature of solid oak wooden floors is that the odd hair will blow under appliances etc and then blow back when doors and windows are opened and closed. The en-suite bathroom that you have refered to is in fact a wet room and it is intended to get wet and obviously some spray from the shower will come under the shower curtain, but nothing at all to worry about. Lasty regards the garden, as explained to you in my my email when you raised the issue, the grass has now been removed and we have lovely new artificial grass which is cleaned after every visit. please you received your house keys etc back, we posted them first class as soon as you mentioned having left them and pleeased that you had a safe journey home. Just a personal note, Ventnor has just been voted in the top 20 best & prettiest places to stay by a major nationwide poll with 150 resorts considered, we are always more than happy to offer recomendations of places to visit, dine & drink to fully experience all that the picturesque town has to offer.

Charlton House, Ventnor
Large house situated in a good position. The house has good appointments in regards bedding, seating and kitchen utilities. However, the armchairs are uncomfortable and one recliner broken. The property needs in TLC, with the flooring in the en-suite to main bedroom cracked, wallpaper coming away behind the bed in that bedroom and the King-size mattress badly spoiled. Also the curtains torn to the bottom. The frames to many of the windows are caked with spider-webs and general dirt and do not seem to have been cleaned for a time. The window glass also need a clean. When booking the holiday there was advertised a hot tub in the garden, this tipped the balance in our decision. There is a bar and wet room to facilitate this tub but we were very disappointed to find that the hot tub had been removed. We were not told this prior to the holiday and Steve, the resident caretaker, who is cheerful and helpful, just said 'yes, it will have to be taken off the internet'. This statement did not help us and, together with the tired state of the house (which definitely needs ceiling fans installed) the £2,000 hire for the week was overpriced.

I am very pleased that you had a great holiday and enjoyed the home and the location, which you certainly seemed to going by the conversations that we had. I can only apologise about the wallpaper peeling and faulty armchair. This is the first time that they have been brought to our attention and have been dealt with as soon as we were made aware. Regarding the mattress, they were brand new at the start of the season and would like to assure you that any marks are thoroughly cleaned and in addition have mattress protectors. You did mention a hot tub upon your arrival and I pointed out that the property has never been let with a hot tub nor ever advertised with one, but did offer you details of a local company that provided hot tub hire should you wish to have one for your stay. I can only assume that my property was confused with another property at point of booking and I am sure that the booking agent can confirm the same. We have never had a need for ceiling fans but I do appreciate that this August experienced heatwave conditions and hotter than past summers. I would add that we have only ever received 5 star reviews from our various booking sites so your points have certainly been taken on board and any areas that need to be addressed will be and feedback is always appreciated.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Not up to expectations
Check in was fine, disappointed when we walked in and the house smelt of dog! Shower, etc not clean with orange body fats 🤢! The annexe is actually being lived in and it felt like we were sharing the house with strangers! I did speak to the owner who was lovely but we cut our stay short and left a day early

Sorry that the house didn't meet your own expectations. Not wanting to take anything away from your opinions but think its only fair to I respond to your issues raised. As mentioned when you phoned me, I personally inspect the property on changeover and neither I nor the cleaning team have ever smelt a dog smell, on contrary the guests reviews in this respect are always very positive. I would also add that the mark you mention in the shower is actually discoloration of limescale in the corner of the tray, difficult to remove but 100% clean. The annexe property is actually a totally separate property, separate entrance and pathway and a lady was staying there during your stay. When you rang to say you could hear talking i investigated and transpires was her radio playing, she apologized profusely and ensured didn't use it again. When turned up with bubbly and flowers for any inconvenience you felt this caused you you responded by saying it was no problem and I really didn't need to go to any trouble as all was good now. So what I'm trying to say is that it is a family home that we strive to give the guests the best experience possible and encourage feedback during your stay to give us an opportunity to remedy if that is at all possible. The reviews across the various booking platforms are first class and we will continue to always do our best.
Easy to organise and lovely accommodation. Nice location and very handy for the beach and Ventnor. Great quick responses from the Manager from any questions we had. We had a lovely stay thank you.

We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the home. Hopefully the television did not cause a problem as it was just a case of the wrong source on remote selected. Hopefully you will visit again and for reference any issues at all just notify the house manager at the details provided and they usually attend and resolve any issues within the hour. Thanks once again for your custom.
Great location. Only stayed two nights. Large stove: made a great cooked breakfast, plenty of fridge and freezer space, plenty of cooking pots and pans. dining is in conservatory (seats 10)- not heated so may be cool in evenings and in winter. Wonderful large teddy bears in various locations give a welcoming feel.
Bedrooms ideally suit 4 adults and up to 6 children. We had 6 adults so two drew the short straw and slept in a twin children's room (uneven beds: one not very comfortable)

Overall view from all the family of 9
It was lovely and spacious and a nice location. Lovely big, well equipped kitchen although we really missed a cafetière. We all found the beds a bit uncomfortable too, but overall we really liked it.

Thanks for your feedback and always appreciated. I would just like to mention that all matresses are of a high quality memory foam and are all less than 12 months old. Obviously it is hard to gauge firmness etc for individual needs due to the nature of the business. Pleased that you enjoyed the house and the area and had a great holiday with the family.

Very comfortable house
Beautifully decorated, very comfortable house. Separate living room and conservatory so lots of space to spread out. Shortish drive to lovely beaches at Shanklin and Sandown, and everything on the island can be reached by car within 30 minutes so it's a perfect location for a family holiday. Highly recommended!

Lovely house, very well equiped.
We booked this house for 11 people (5 of which are children) owner had no issues with the number of children, which was great . All the party loved the house from my 3 year old right upto my 65 year old mother.
The house is in a lovely location, brilliant as a base point or fab for just chilling at.
