About this property

Historic Inn on a 100 Acre Organic Farm with Lake, Private Pool & Gourmet Food

The Inn at White Gate Farm is located in southeastern Connecticut on 100 acres of growing fields, woods and ponds, with extensive lake frontage. In these pandemic times, we offer the 7- bedroom farmhouse and/or cabin on the lake as a glorious safe retreat. We request a 3-night minimum.

White Gate Farm offers a wide array of tasty, nutritious produce, eggs, chickens, prepared foods and pastries. We would be glad to assemble special orders for you to enjoy as is or cook in your kitchen. Or the farm chef would be glad to make you dinner.

You are invited to explore the grounds, hike the trails in the woods, and visit the farm animals. One of the farmers will be happy to give you a tour, explaining our organic growing methods or highlighting whatever you are interested in. Summer visitors can enjoy the swimming pool with its own pool house and the glorious lake + dock.

The core of the house was built in 1765 and features the original fireplace. Each room has a private bath. There are 2 working gas fireplaces.

Overall, the house was perfect for our family of 13 Thanksgiving! Kevin was wonderful with helping with any little problems we came across. My sister and I visited the Gillette Castle, which is only a 30 minute Back road drive! I highly recommend it!We cooked a beautiful turkey Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey was delicious and raised right there on the white gate farm. I also ordered two gluten-free pies. The pecan rum was out of this world! I need that recipe!We hope to come back to this beautiful setting perhaps next Thanksgiving or the year after

The Inn and all the staff went so far beyond our expectations. Our daughter and son in law had their wedding celebration on the farm last week. The inn itself is absolutely beautiful. The surroundings are idyllic. We couldn’t have had a better experience staying here.

Wonderful stay!!

We had such an amazing time here and are planning to return for our next family vacation! The house was clean and spacious and the communication was phenomenal. Everyone we interacted with at the farm was kind, caring, and helpful. There is so much to do at the farm and in the surrounding area. We could not recommend this place more! Best vacation ever!

The Farm House was the perfect setting for our family reunion, 10 adults, 4 children. Most of our time was spent in the pool area, which is very family friendly. The house is very comfortable, bed rooms are large and many bathrooms throughout. The kitchen is very well stocked, plenty of service for 14 people and all the gadgets we needed. The kids also enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the animals on the farm.

Perfect destination for active families who love outdoor sports and relaxed comfortable evenings. Wholesome organic foods with incredibly delicious baked goods. Lots of hiking, swimming, kayaking. The small army of staff who sustain the farm are uber friendly and willing to answer questions and show off the critters . A nearby trip to Mystic aquarium should not be missed.

Great Family Getaway

This was such a central location for my East coast family to meet up. Perfect lodging for folks coming from lots of different areas and spatial needs. We had a lovely time going to the farm stand and made a beautiful meal from the produce we picked up. Thanks for an amazing stay!

White Gate Farm was purchased by the owner's mother Ruth Lord in 1974. The daughter of HF duPont of Winterthur, Ruth was drawn to the beautiful land. Her house -- now the inn -- has antiques from her father as well as artwork by her friends Andrew Wyeth and James Stevenson. In 2000, Ruth's daughter Pauline moved with her husband David Harlow from California to begin farming the land. With their crew they grow 55 different crops, all organic. They also raise turkeys, chickens for eggs and meat, and lambs. Chefs make prepared foods and pastries for the farm's online store, open year round, and they are happy to discuss preparing private dinners for Inn guests.

Why they chose this property

The comfortable inn has beautiful views in every direction and features several gathering spaces, a full kitchen and spacious bedrooms. Outside gathering spots include the front porch, the pool with patio and pool house, and a stone terrace on the back side of the Inn -- perfect for grilling and outdoor dining. The surrounding farm is immaculate and offers hiking, swimming, lake activities and visiting animals. We have passes to Niantic beaches for your use. Ask about Critter Tours, Geology & Bird Walks in the Woods, Astronomy Night and/or Kids' Camp!
