CASETTA DELFINO - Marinella Pomonte
LOCATION:
Casetta Delfino is a charming holiday apartment in the heart of the village of Pomonte.
Convenient and private, just steps from the town's main amenities: a bakery, ice cream parlor, bar, newsstand, tobacconist, and grocery store; just a 2-minute walk from the free granite pebble beach of Scalette and the smooth cliffs of Calello. We are on the Costa del Sole of Elba Island, on the border between the municipalities of Marciana and Campo nell'Elba on the western coast.
We also have other larger properties for rent throughout the town.
THE ROOMS (24 sq m):
The apartment is on two levels and can accommodate families of up to 4 people (recommended for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children):
- On the upper level, reached by a wooden ladder, is the bedroom with a French-style double bed (140 x 200 cm wide).
- On the ground floor, there is a living room with a double sofa bed (when opened, it becomes a 140 x 190 cm bed), a kitchenette with an induction hob, a convection oven, a refrigerator, a freezer, a full set of dishes and cookware for 4 people, and satellite TV.
- The bathroom is on the ground floor, complete with a toilet and bidet, and a small window. It has a floor-level shower with a pebble mosaic tile floor and a convenient folding door, a hand shower, and a waterfall feature.
PLEASE NOTE THE HEIGHTS: the house was originally an ancient wine press where grapes were pressed for winemaking. During the conversion, the bathroom and kitchenette (located under the bedroom) were lower than usual (about 2 meters). Therefore, to avoid inconvenience when using the waterfall shower and kitchenette, we recommend booking only for those under 193 cm tall. Alternatively, we suggest you take a look at our other, larger apartments in Pomonte.
THE PORTICO (8 sq m):
The apartment is accessed from a private pedestrian alley between the ice cream shop and the bakery. It is located in a private internal courtyard that leads to Casetta Delfino's enclosed porch of approximately 8 sq m, where you'll find a dining table and loungers for relaxing outdoors.
COMFORT AND FACILITIES:
Casetta Delfino offers, despite its compact size, all the amenities for a relaxing holiday, just steps from the sea, mountains, and the town's amenities.
The apartment has air conditioning in both the bedroom and living room, a TV with Tivùsat satellite decoder, and Wi-Fi (a satellite connection using repeaters on Monte Capanne. Unfortunately, there may be days when the signal is poor or completely absent. For those who need to work online during their vacation, we recommend bringing a cellular connection with unlimited data as a backup).
The house is fully electric; there are no gas tanks or storage facilities.
PARKING:
We have a parking space reserved for Casetta Delfino guests just under 50 meters away (the parking lot is not shaded).
PET FRIENDLY
Pets are welcome if they are accustomed to living in an apartment; they cannot be left alone in the house or on the fenced porch without their owners present. On Elba, you can bring your dogs to almost all beaches, including private beach establishments, by following a few simple bathing rules (which vary by municipality, and we'll provide more information on them). You can take them with you to shops, restaurants, and our beautiful trails, where they'll be delighted.
FERRY DISCOUNTS:
After booking, you'll be sent information on how to book ferry tickets at discounted prices.
POMONTE
Among the most charming and authentic villages on the Island of Elba, located on the Costa del Sole on the western side of the island, bordering the municipalities of Marciana and Campo nell'Elba.
Pomonte is a picturesque seaside village, nestled between the sea and the mountains, appearing like a nativity scene on the water. It is quiet, not overly touristy, and maintains a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a more authentic vacation, with a slow pace, immersed in nature and tranquility, for those who prefer the crystal-clear sea and outdoor activities to the social life.
In the summer, for generations, local children and teenagers have mingled with tourists from all over the world, playing beach games and competing in cliff-diving competitions. They meet in the square in the evenings for other entertainment, and new friendships and companionships are formed that often last beyond the holiday period. Adults can savor local cuisine in family-run restaurants, enjoy an aperitivo on the rocks, relax while sipping excellent cocktails, or wake up with an espresso or cappuccino in the bars in the square. Or, take a pizza to the beach for a smart dinner at sunset. In Pomonte, you can taste one of the island's best artisanal ice creams, and buy bread, schiacciata, pizza, groceries, meat, and traditional products. There's a tobacconist, a newsstand, a pharmacy, a beachwear shop, and a vital emergency response center. In July, August, and September, unmissable village festivals are held, where you'll find local fish and game dishes prepared by the villagers.
Pomonte is one of the best spots on Elba to watch the sunset; the sun dips into the sea just behind the silhouette of Corsica, painting the sky orange and purple, offering unforgettable moments.
THE WRECK
Pomonte's main attraction is the Elviscot Wreck, a merchant ship that sank in 1972 near the Ogliera Rock. Just 160 meters from the shore, it's easily accessible by swimming and offers an unforgettable experience for adventurous adults and children alike: perfectly visible even with just a mask and snorkel, the two halves of the wreck lie at a depth of about 12 meters, but in some places they reach almost 2 meters from the surface. The wreck has become a true marine ecosystem, home to a wide variety of fish and marine flora, and you can enjoy a unique spectacle swimming among the fish in the crystal-clear water.
POMONTE'S BEACHES
Pomonte doesn't have sand, but several pebble beaches of various colors and sizes and flat granite cliffs, all easily accessible on foot from each apartment. The pebbled seabed ensures exceptional water clarity, perfect for those who love to observe the seabed.
"SPIAGGIA DEL RELITTO" (SHIPWRECK BEACH): dark basalt and serpentinite pebbles of medium to small size, it is mainly occupied by a beach club (open from June to September).
"SPIAGGIA DELLE SCALETTE" (SCALETTE BEACH) is the closest to our apartments. It is composed of white granite pebbles of various sizes. It is free, with easy access to the sea, even for small children, thanks to the shallow, gently sloping seabed, and is therefore the most popular with families.
"SPIAGGIA DELL'OGLIERA" (OGLIERA BEACH) is the wildest and least crowded, even in August, as it is the most difficult to reach. It is composed of dark pebbles.
The northernmost part of the Pomonte coast is characterized by a large, smooth, light-colored granite cliff, "IL CALELLO," ideal for sunbathing and diving, with gently sloping seabeds in several places that allow for easy entry and exit from the water. This is the area most popular with young people, especially the rocks around the "MOLETTO," a pier 3 meters above sea level once used as a dock for boats loaded with granite and wine, now used primarily by young people as a diving board.
All this is just minutes away from other towns with sandy beaches, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
HIKING AND OUTDOOR
Pomonte is more than just "beach and sea," it's a favorite destination for those who enjoy combining time on the beach with hiking or mountain biking: behind it lies the Pomonte Valley (the largest on the island), which extends from the town to Monte Capanne (1,017 m). The valley is crisscrossed by ditches, streams, and old mule tracks. Once entirely cultivated with vineyards on stone terraces, it has now become a hub for hikers of all levels, allowing you to immerse yourself in the scents of the Mediterranean scrub, including strawberry trees, cistus, mastic, myrtle, lavender, and broom. Climbing the mountains offers wonderful views of the rest of Elba, the Tuscan Archipelago, and Corsica.
THE WEST COAST OF ELBA
Don't miss the Costa del Sole's famous beautiful sandy beaches of Fetovaia, Seccheto, Cavoli, and Sant'Andrea, as well as the long beaches of Marina di Campo and Procchio, are just a few of the many options. For a touch of historic atmosphere, visit the medieval villages of Marciana and Poggio on the north side, and San Piero and Sant'Ilario to the south. For an evening stroll through the shops, spend an evening in Marciana Marina, a charming town with a marina, and Marina di Campo, larger towns with great nightlife.
These are just a few of the highlights of your vacation in Pomonte. If you're sure of your choice, we'll send you even more details so your Elba vacation remains one of your most cherished memories!
We look forward to seeing you in Pomonte!
