About this property

Remodeled Barn in Champlain Valley, Essex, NY

The barn that is attached to my 200 year old home was rebuilt in 2019 into an amazing 1 bedroom, 1 bath retreat. It is spacious, well equipped and dreamy. After the full re-build, the barn is now a highly efficient timber-frame hybrid living space using both original, re-claimed materials and the latest in energy-efficient products.

I now raise Norwegian Fjord Horses on the property and they love visitors! The farm is serene and surrounded by beauty yet close to of all types of excitement. There are well maintained hiking trails within walking distance, you can take the ferry to Burlington for restaurants and shopping or hop the train to Montreal. The food movement is in full swing up here and that is another enjoyable attraction. In the town of Essex, there is a wonderful yoga studio, the Lake Champlain Yoga & Wellness, several restaurants and interesting history.

The barn is a quiet and private getaway with mountain views, 3.5 miles from the Town of Essex and Lake Champlain--comfortable year round, with A/C in the summer and efficient heat and a wood stove for the cold months. The photos say it all!

I live on the property with a variety of animals, including my horses. A dream come true!

Why they chose this property

The first time I saw the views, the old stone home and that barn, I was hooked!

What makes this property unique

The whole property is very beautiful, but the remodeled barn is now incredibly special--everything is brand new, while keeping it's old charm and barn feel. I think the addition of my adorable horses really makes this destination unique and fun. Trails surround the property, the lake is there to be used, the ferry to VT is so handy, the antique and historic town of Essex and the mountains, all conspire to create a sense of rural peace with modern amenities.
