An Adventure of a Lifetime - Modern Adirondack Yurt/Cabin on 15 Acres
Enter the magical world of Yurts and the High Peaks! Stay in our Ranier Yurt with hiking and snowshoeing right on the property and close access to the adventures and romance of the High Peaks region. Now with wireless internet. Have breakfast gazing at Giant Mountain and then take a short climb to the upper property for views of Elizabethtown and many other peaks. You feel deep in the woods with only the sounds of nature to soothe you yet you're a mile from town. If you have never stayed in a Yurt you will be enchanted with living 'in the round' - windows are all around you and you peer up through the enormous dome to see the treetops, stars and moonlight. The Yurt stays warm and dry in any weather - from 30 below to hurricane winds. Lincoln Pond is 15 minutes away for lake swimming but there is a secret swimming hole right around the corner. Put your kayak in at Lake Champlain in Westport. Hospital, grocery store, drug store are 5 minutes away. Autumn and Winter are gorgeous.
More information on our Adirondack Yurt: The Yurt is heated with a large propane heater which together with the ceiling fan keeps the place warm in even the coldest Adirondack winters. In the summer the dome, french doors, an A/C and windows open to cool the place down. Although the yurt is fully inspected and equipped with smoke alarms, smoking inside is ABSOLUTELY prohibited. We have a full compliment of maps and guides for nearby hiking trails and we made a list of our favourite trails. The road up to the Yurt is approx 300' and is dirt but easily accessible with any car in the summer. Our land is surrounded by 85 acres and we have permission to hike/snowshoe/ski on it. The views are incredible. We will NOT allow any parties that will hunt, snowmobile or drive motorized vehicles on the property. We have cable TV, internet and wifi free of charge and a large collection of movies at the property. There's a great firepit and endless wood for marshmallows. It is very important guest conserve water as our well is shallow.
The surrounding area: The High Peaks area of the Adirondacks is known as one of the most beatiful landscapes on the planet. Elizabethtown is uniquely situated 15 minutes east of Keene Valley and 15 minutes west of Lake Champlain. Hike one day and kayak the next. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Whiteface Mountain are a short drive away. You can easily walk or ride a bike into town for groceries, hardwares or the drug store, pizza, and a great restaurant. In the surrounding villages of Westport, Essex, Keene Valley and Keene you'll find high-end eateries and shops, the famous Mountaineer Outdoor Store, a great gym and bakery, farmers markets, etc. Adventerous souls can take the ferry in Essex across the lake to Burlington, VT. Lincoln Pond is a great state park and only 10 minutes away. There, for a fee, you can spend the day at the beach, boating and swimming.
Other Policies: We are very selective about the friends and 'friends to be' that we allow to rent our Yurt. It is best as a retreat for a couple with children or two couples but no more than four people will feel comfortable here. For sleeping arrangements, the bedroom is private, the loft is best for kids because of low headroom so extra adults will use the futon in the living room.

My husband and I thought the yurt was great. It is tucked back in the woods, but still close to stores and restaurants. It is a perfect location for exploring the ADK high peaks region. The yurt was very clean and cozy, with great views of the mountains and the stars at night. We would definitely stay again!
We enjoyed the Yurt. It was a good comfybstay with all the amenities one would expect.
The location was good for exploring both Lake Champagne and the Lake Placid area.
Would highly recommend a stay here.
We had a great stay at the yurt. The location is perfect, tucked away from the crowds but with so much to do in the area. The cabin itself is very comfy with gorgeous views of the mountains. Loved the swimming hole too!
The yurt is a nice place for a getaway in the Adirondacks! Property is very secluded and private, and has a great view! Close to town and near lots of hikes and attractions. Perfect if you want to go exploring the mountains, or head up to the near towns. Lots around to do and very pleased with the stay!
My husband and enjoyed our stay. We loved the quite abd secluded feeling. Yet, it was the perfect location for day trips to Burlington and Lake Placid.
The yurt is spacious, filled with light and beautiful views of the majestic high peaks. We have been staying here for years as the simplicity of the setting and the yurt is so restorative. Doug is a wonderful and responsive host and has provided all the amenities needed to have a special getaway!
My husband and I made the yurt our basecamp for our ADK adventure! It was in a perfect location, not too far from all the fun places to explore, but also not so close that we couldn’t feel “disconnected.” Be sure to hit the amazing trails, visit Lake Placid, and venture over to Burlington, VT if you stay. We are already hoping to make a trip back soon - we loved every minute of our vacation!
This is my 2nd time staying here and as the first, its perfect. You cant beat the views and the setting itself. The bed in back bedroom is ridiculously comfortable and I got some great sleep! The kitchen has everything you may need, as with the bathroom. Communicating with Doug was easy and he was gracious with the short notice. 12/10 would stay here again.
We had stayed in Doug’s yurt 6 years ago and now had another opportunity. We were pleased the first time and everything was very much the same now. It’s a unique experience in a beautiful spot — feeling very isolated but still conveniently close to services. We would come back again anytime. Clean, well equipped and everything in good condition. Highly recommended.
Good location in high peaks area, comfortable bed, very well cared for property with responsive owner. Only suggestion is if you want to watch tv at night take your favorite DVDs or be sure to have your logins for netflix etc. Owner did a great job of providing info//maps for local hiking areas. Two worn out senior citizens and senior canines had a very good time!
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Yurt.
We are retired people and enjoyed this new amazing experience.secluded location in the middle of Adirondacks.
There are tons of trails to choose from.
The host, Doug, was very responsive.
The instructions abut the yurt were very clear and well communicated.

YURT is a four letter word...lol !!
When we arrived we weren't inclined to like the yurt very much at all because it was stiflingly H-O-T inside. We opened every window, rolled up the plastic covers, turned on the fan, opened the doors...Whew...now I'm not just hot I'm exhausted too! The roof dome did not appear to be open, so we diagnosed this as the BIG problem but had difficulty discovering how to open it or figuring out IF it WAS open or not. We called our host but no pickup or response until 17 hours later. By then, we had figured it out, as eventually we came across a notice left in a pile of papers and leaflets that weren't apparent on arrival that told us the dome was open. Sundown brought more tolerable temps and the overnight hours were downright cool-ish--HOORAH!
It is an interesting but definitely not a totally delightful structure for us, especially with the mid-80s indoor temperature in the daytime.. Think tent stretched over a wood frame. The decor and ambiance are not modern, and I would classify as "worn" and DIY grade with weathered upholstery and stained chairs and mattress pad. It's basically a "one-ply" establishment. We're fully aware of when to flush and how to save water by taking short showers(to conserve limited well water)...maybe we're extraordinary but, I don't think so. These things should be stated in the initial rental posting if the hosts are serious about their guests complying with them. Also, before booking one should know that the host requests that you bring your own bed linens.
The town and the area are quaint. The views from the yurt are beautiful and the lot itself is really nice. We were able to explore the Lake Placid area and Lake Champlain.

In my email to all guests it clearly states that the dome is open and should stay that way. This guest did not read the email carefully. In the property description is states that water needs to be conserved because the well is shallow. In the property amenities it shows that linens are not provided. I appreciate the feedback on worn items and they will be replaced this winter.
Our stay at the yurt was just magnificent this fall. This is our 5th stay and we love the comfortable, open and spacious feel of the yurt. The fall colors were so vibrant and the views of Giant Mountain were spectacular. The fire pit and walks on the land topped off a great stay!
The views from the yurt were amazing. We had a lovely time staying here for a couple days. Even with the weather getting chilly at night, it was always warmer than expected in the yurt. Lovely property with hikes right out the front door. Would gladly come back and stay again.
We had such a great time at the Yurt. The view was amazing and my kids loved the unique structure they got to sleep in. The yurt is extremely close to countless trailheads, climbing, restaurants and a few markets. During our stay we checked out the following….
Owls head lookout
Poke-o-moonshine fire tower
Roaring brook falls/nubble/giant washbowl loop
High falls gorge
Paul smiths VIC
The Wild Center
Big slide brewery
We would return to all of the above but there is so much to do in the area (if you are looking for outdoor activities).
The yurt served as a home base for us - it was equipped with everything we needed for our week stay and Doug was a great host who made himself available if needed!
Loved staying here- it was hot when we were there but the yurt was sufficiently cool. The bed was comfortable and everything you need home from home is there to use.
