Welcome to La Vista Del Mar (the view by the sea), where we have two separate studio apartments (The Views and The Nest). Each unit has a queen bed, fully equipped kitchen, couch, TV, wifi, private patios and travel cooler and beach chairs. Property is located on the ocean with private beach entrance, beach shower and spectacular ocean views. Lounge on your private patio or snooze on the beach in one of our several hammocks. Walk along the beach and hunt for sea shells or sea glass.
Each unit accommodates 2 adults comfortably, however, arrangements can be made for a separate bed for a third person.

Relax and enjoy

Enjoy the beauty of the Caribean from the lounge chairs on the porch. Be soothed by the waves, entertained by the pelicans doing their ballet as they dove for food, enjoy the amazing sunrise and sunsets. The host are generous and gracious and the apartment is welcoming and comfortable. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

Quiet Retreat

A total pleasure

Can't wait to go back!

We could have stayed here twice as long and still have wanted more. Such a beautiful, peaceful spot, right on the ocean. The owners are gracious and kind and a joy to talk to. The apartment was clean and comfortable, but the veranda is where we spent most of our time, with it's amazing view of the ocean. Loved watching the pelicans fishing and the boats going by. Just beautiful! We could not have found a better spot to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Can't wait to go back!

Memorable

Everything about our stay was wonderful and more so than we could have imagined. Jim and Teresa are exceptional hosts who immediately made us feel at home. They created a comfortable, warm and welcoming experience for us. Oh, did I forget to mention just how beautiful the location is with everything you could hope for to have that memorable time away and be soothed by the sound of the ocean, the warmth of the sun, delicious food, and the company of new friends.

Our slice of paradise

This trip was about unwinding and slowing down. Walked the beach, searched for sea glass designed small pictures with the sea glass, read several books, sat on the balcony and enjoyed the sea breeze and natural beauty surrounding us. The visit by some dolphins passing by was a special treat. Enjoyed time with our host, Teresa and Jim and met new friends. All in all a great time in our slice of paradise.

PR Oasis

It was cozy. Just enough room for two people. It had everything we needed, even body wash, shampoo, and a hair dryer in the bathroom. There were cameras everywhere. Not sure why. Probably security. The owners were wonderful. They have two dogs that didn't bother us at all. You cannot swim there, but the view is spectacular. We found a lot of sea glass right on the property. Filled a half of a ball jar. It was beautiful.

Little slice of paradise

My partner and I booked this stay after deciding to try out a different area of Puerto Rico (we’ve always stayed in the northwest). So thankful we did!! The area is very non-touristy, everyone is very friendly. I did some research on things to do in the area prior to going - there is not a lot of information online, as again, it is not a touristy area. We explored a few local nature preserves, found many beaches we had just to ourselves, and explored the mountains. It is shortly over an hour drive from the ferry at Ceiba to Culebra, so we did that one day, but next time we would not do that again. There is so much to do locally, as well as relaxing! Jim and Marilyn are amazing hosts-we felt right at home. From watching sunrises and sunsets from the front deck, to stargazing from the hot tub at night, to collecting shells along the beach…honestly we could have stayed in one place the entire time. We highly recommend staying in this little piece of paradise.

Beach front paradise!

Peaceful, beautiful, private, clean property. Nicely decorated and well stocked. A bit off the beaten path which we loved (not the built up crowds of San Juan). Loved the ocean front setting, views and sounds. It was like we owned this private corner of paradise for the week. Loved the oceanfront hot tub with a frozen drink to end the days. Saw some neat birds in the side water way towards sunrise and sunset. Owners made all efforts to make sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable and happy. They provide you with beach chairs, beach towels and a cooler, and try to accommodate any other desires/needs. We took several day trips to see some wonderful sites on the island, and were always happy to come home to "our private corner of beach". The only negative to share is the beach is rocky and you cannot swim (but there are beautiful local sandy beaches close by and we practically had them to ourselves!). Also it's hard to walk the beach because of the uneven rockiness on neighboring properties, so if you like to take a nice long walk along the beach, make sure you have sturdy shoes. Everything else was perfect! Would stay here again!!!!!

Magical Spot on the ocean

You can't get closer to the ocean with its constant soothing sound of surf and breezes throughout the day & nite at this magical spot. Sun and moon rise from the deck is mesmerizing. There were no mosquitoes or other bugs as the deck is around 10 feet above the sand but they do have bug spray available if needed. Their 2 dogs made our stay even better with visits to our side of the deck. Jim & Teresa live in the main unit which is connected, but separate from the rental unit. Jim & Teresa are the consummate hosts- everything is immaculate and they will do anything to make your stay more comfortable - beach chairs, towels & cooler are available, provided us with the first day's breakfast food, gave us a table lamp when I asked since the overheads were too bright, and, to top it off, invited us out for a meal and to meet some friends ! They were respectful of our privacy but were at the ready to help out. Having a washer, dryer and clothes line, was also a plus since we were there for 3 weeks. While the accommodations were superb, we had hoped to be able to walk into a town which is not the case. You definitely need a car. It is not in the usual "touristy" area which we appreciated. You cannot swim at the beach in front of the unit as it is rocky and rough, as is walking on the beach. The closest lovely "swimming" beach is about 75 minutes north and east. The Patillas town beach is only 10 minutes away and is very nice but shallow and lots of sea grass- so hard to swim. Lots of locals hang out there which is great, as is Calixo's Restaurant. While we would give Jim & Teresa and their lovely home a 5+++ rating, I chose a 4 given the location (not walking distance to a town or swimming beach), which is no fault of theirs. We spent time exploring the southern coast, read a ton of books while lounging in the deck chairs, and relaxed & renewed in this marvelous "home away from home" .

Peace, Tranquility and Good Fishing!!!

My husband and I had the privilege of staying at Jim and Teresa's property for one week. Upon arrival, Jim and Teresa greet you, along with their two fur babies, Suzie and Gigi, who are so very sweet :). They were very thorough in showing us around and explaining everything. The property has three units. Jim and Teresa live in the center unit, with the other units on each side. Jim & Teresa are not intrusive at all. My first impression of the unit was that it was very clean, nicely decorated and had ice cold air. The bed linens and towels all smelled fresh too. The outside grounds are also nicely kept and clean. It is obvious that Jim and Teresa take great pride in maintaining their property. The evenings were nice and quiet. All we could hear were the waves. We enjoy fishing very much, so we spent most of our days fishing in front of the property. If you are into fishing, directly in front of the property it is shallow and there are lots of rocks. A local told us a good spot is between Jim and Teresa's property and the neighbor to the left. Right under the palms. That's where I caught my PB snapper. We're from Florida, so to catch big snapper you have to go off shore. When I felt that bite and drag, I knew I had something good on. It was night time, so I couldn't see anything. Had no idea what I had hooked or how it was coming in. Little by little, I brought it in and when I finally saw what it was I was ECSTATIC!!!! I couldn't believe it. I was SO EXCITED!!! It was a 25" Dog Snapper. One of my best catches to date. My husband filleted it and we had it for lunch one day. Teresa kept the head and rest of the fish and made a tasty fish soup. It was yummy! We also caught other different types of snappers (Mahogany, School Master), but they were all undersize. Beware of the Eels - OMGEEEE! They are there and they are a nuisance. They can be difficult to get off your line or they get wrapped up in your line and you have to cut everything off. I'd rather catch ten saltwater catfish than one eel - LOL. In sum, we love the property, loved the fishing, loved the fur babies, Suzie and Gigi, and absolutely loved Jim and Teresa as hosts. Would definitely rent this property again and most definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys Peace, Tranquility and Good Fishing!

Quiet getaway location

My wife and I wanted a getaway for our 25th wedding anniversary. We spent 9 nights with Jim and Teresa. Their location is specifically set up like you are visiting family. Jim greeted us and showed us the unit. Bear in mind that they live at the same property and you walk past their house to get to yours. At first, I thought this was going to interfere with our privacy, but they work very hard to give you your own space and there is a balcony that overlooks the beach that is yours, they don't come onto it. I found myself seeking out Jim and Teresa after a while, just to chat. They are amiable people. They also have two adorable pups that greet you when you get out of your car. Being dog people, we spent a lot of time petting them. If you are not a dog person, there is a gate that you can close to keep them away from your rental area. (we left it open for 9 days) The unit has everything you need for an extended stay. I would caution that if you are looking for a place to party or have night life, this is not for you. If you love watching the sunrise over the water, quiet walks on the beach, evenings sitting on the deck sipping rum drinks, local food and great views... this is your place. I took a star off the listing accuracy, because they are constructing a second-floor apartment at the location and have not yet updated the website pictures... it was not a problem for us. You are very close to Maunabo, Arroyo, Guayama, and Naguabo. You are also only 1.5 hours away from El Yunque by car. My wife and I actually went there, then went to Luquillo beach for a couple of hours on the way home, still got back around 8pm. You are about 2 hours from San Juan or Ponce. Adventure is yours if you look for it. This area is very much the real deal and not a tourist trap. We enjoyed local foods and local beaches. We enjoyed nature reserves and the local wildlife. It is all in what you are looking for. Thanks Jim and Teresa for being such great hosts.

A real gem!

This is a beautiful property with absolutely lovely hosts. The unit we had was ocean front - and it looked exactly like the pictures. It was very comfortable and the hosts go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome. Highly recommended.

Fabulous stay!! Teresa and Jim were amazing and available if we needed anything. The place was immaculate! The area is quaint and easy to get around, good restaurants just a few miles away. This is the perfect place if you want to relax and listen to the ocean.

Jewel by the sea

James and Teresa welcomed us as guests of their property with great kindness and hospitality. Our week's stay at Barrio Pueblo / La Vista Del Mar was comforting and restorative. This dwelling is right on the ocean! The accommodations are clean, well provisioned, safe, extremely affordable and comfortable. Most enjoyable was relaxing on the terrace after a full day of activities. The location- Patillas - in laid back southeast region of the island kept us off the beaten path and within short driving distance to experience a variety of activities, unexpected discoveries, delicious food, fantastic beaches, mountain life, historic sites and stunning panoramic ocean views. James and Teresa are generous in sharing their knowledge of the island and recommendations regarding best driving routes, restaurants, and not-to-miss- explorations. You have family in Puerto Rico

Honestly the hosts here are fantastic. We arrived on Teresa's birthday and her husband Jim invited us to the party, so an hour after arriving we're at this big party with food and drinks and music like we'd known everyone for years. It's not just a business to these folks, they actually care about their guests. You won't want for anything during your stay. The map on VRBO is misleading, the property is right on the beach. Jim will send you directions from San Juan and my heartfelt advice is that you follow them to the letter. GPS will get you into places in PR that it won't get you out of and there are roads in the mountains that don't deserve the name, so trust Jim's directions and you'll be fine. The property is clean and beautiful, they're continually improving it, and we hated to leave. It had really begun to feel like home. You absolutely won't regret staying here. We can't wait to get back.

Beautiful oceanside stay

The apartment and property were both incredible, with a fun and inviting interior and well-designed outdoor spaces. Just outside the door is a beautiful rocky/sandy beach, and the sound of the ocean was a treat to sleep to. Teresa was travelling when we visited, but Jim was a very kind and considerate host. In short, my wife and I were very pleased to have chosen this as our honeymoon stay! One note for first-time viewers: La Vista Del Mar has 2 units (with a third in progress). They both look beautiful, but this one with orange walls had the closer ocean view and access. I'm looking forward to seeing the third unit if/when available, as it may have even more expansive views from a second story.
