Key Biscayne is situated on a barrier island just a short and gorgeous drive across the Rickenbacker Causeway from Miami. It is known for being a low-key tropical oasis, with quaint neighborhoods and palm tree-lined streets. Key Biscayne is home to some of the most brilliant, white sandy beaches and offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities, including bicycling, tennis, golf, fishing, kite boarding, windsurfing, boating and sailing. Besides the beautiful beaches, there is also a nature and visitor center, state parks, the Miami Seaquarium and local eateries famous for their cuisine. It lies between two large parks—Crandon Park and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park—each with long, sheltered beaches, mangroves and tropical forest inhabited by birdlife, butterflies and loggerhead turtles. The latter is home to the 19th-century Cape Florida Lighthouse. Or you may want to explore the many intriguing attractions nearby, like South Beach, Jungle Island or Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Key Biscayne was rated the safest city in Florida in 2019.
