All rooms are on one floor. You can drive right up to the front door. Great for older people or families with little kids.

The Living room dining room combination is knotty pine finish with a 14 foot stone, wood burning fireplace (decorative only, not used for heating). The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove (built-in air fryer) dishwasher, microwave, toaster, refrigerator and coffee station. This lake front cottage has it's own private dock for swimming and boating and has a beautiful grass lawn in front. Located on a 3/4 mile private dirt road just off Lake Buel Road with a short 10 minute ride to Great Barrington that has the best shops, restaurants and theaters in the Berkshires .

Breathtaking, tranquil Summer lakefront getaway. You will truly fall in love with this amazing summer home. It is a family friendly environment and home.

The Red House is a Summer Cottage and it is available for rent only during the Summer season.

The Red House is part of our 4 acre family compound on Lake Buel. Our family has owned this property since 1935. Generations of children have had their whole life defined by our Summers at the lake. This house is one of four on the property. The other three are occupied by the extended family members.

You are right on the lake, beautiful screened in porch, one floor, no stairs in or out. Parking is on the same level as the house. You will spend much of your time lounging around or enjoying your meals on the 30' long screened-in porch that runs the width of the house. Plenty of comfortable seating on the porch and a dining table that seats 8. Bring your own boat and tie it up your private dock. When not enjoying the screened porch, the Great Room will be the activity center of the house. It starts with the Fireplace area and our friend 'the moose'. The great room sliding glass doors open to the screened in porch to bring the summer breezes into the house. Use the two ceiling fans or the room air conditioner to make it comfortable on the warm summer days.

This house is five feet from the water and has boats and a dock to enjoy. The great room is well"great" we had meals on the dining table and deck and had all of us on the water in different boats at different times. Great sunsets and sunrises. The layout of the bedrooms may not work for all but was great for us.

we had a great week. the red house with all it's amenities was above our expectation. after meeting our host, jerry, upon our arrival we didn't want for anything during our stay. the place was immaculate and the lake was beautiful. the area (ie: great barrington and stockbridge) is close by along with many accessible golf courses. with a family of 5 adults 2 older children and a dog we never felt crowded especially with the large screened in porch and great room. i would certainly recommend the red house to any family with or without children or dog. we hope to return next summer. thank you jerry for a great week.

I’d give TheRedHouse 10 stars if I could!! It was incredibly comfortable, with lake views that were nothing short of extraordinary. The kitchen and house were fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. With four bedrooms and two and a half baths, it was wonderfully spacious and neat, Everything from the couch to the bedding and towels was clean and felt brand new!For outdoor fun, there were plenty of “toys” to enjoy — two kayaks, a canoe, a row boat, and a stand-up paddleboard. The house even comes with it’s very own dock to just hang out on, Jerry, the owner, was wonderfully accommodating and just a genuinely delightful person to talk to.My only complaint? One week wasn’t nearly enough — I wanted to stay all summer! Already counting down the days until I can book my next stay. Thank you Jerry for making my stay at TheRedHouse a summer to remember ;-)

The Red House was a great house!!!

Starting with the friendly and helpful welcome, our stay at the Red House was fantastic!!! The beds were comfortable, the house was spotless and well-maintained. Although it was only just the two of us, the common area (living room/dining room) would be a great place for a family to hang out. For us, the best part of the house was the screened in porch overlooking the beautiful lake. Even in the rain, we were able to enjoy the view of the lake. Jerry couldn't have been more helpful. It was a wonderful long weekend and we'll definitely go back.

One of the most picturesque locations in the berks

Rustic setting, but the view of the lake and watching the kids from the summer camps water ski and sail made the home exceptional. Close proximity to GB and easy access to rt 7 a real plus.

Best Rental We've Ever Had

The Red House is remarkable. We are a senior couple whose 2 sons and their families come to the Berkshires for a week and stay with us. We had plenty of room for everyone. The bedrooms are in a separate wing, so we didn't feel that the house was too big for just us. The best part of the house is the enclosed porch, which runs the entire width of the house. We ate all our meals out there, with a lovely view of Lake Buell. In addition, there are wicker chairs and sofas on the other side of the porch, a lovely place to sit and read or just have conversations with our family. We loved the house so much that we're renting it for the month of July next year! We love the Berkshires, as we used to camp there for many years. One of the appeals of the Berkshires is the cultural attractions. If you like music, dance, theater, art museums, you will love the Berkshires.

Red House cottage

The house was a wonderful place to stay. Everything was provided for the month rental. It was clean and efficient with lots of room for our children and grandchildren to come and visit. the screened porch facing the lake was the best part. The owners of the cottage live next door and were the most welcoming family we have met in a long time. Our experience there was memorable and we would do it again.

Thanks for staying with us. The Red House on Lake Buel does have one of the best screened in porches with a lake view in the Berkshires.

The Red Cottage

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the red cottage. It was spacious, clean, as close to the water as you could possible get and in a postcard setting. The cottage is old and decorated in a manner that gives you the feel of being in a lakeside cabin in the backwoods of Maine. At first blush it appears a bit primitive, but that quickly changes as you settle in. It is well stocked and provides all of the creature comforts that we consider essential. The location is sufficiently private to give you the solitude you sometimes desire on a vacation, yet close enough to downtown Great Barrington and Stockbridge to provide you with more than ample dining and shopping attractions. Our stay was primarily two adults and two large dogs (we had friends visit for a couple days), but the space was sufficient for three times that number. Suffice to say this is a good size cottage. I think the most important factor in making this an exceptionally enjoyable experience was the kindness and hospitality showed by the owner and his family. They own the contiguous properties and could not have been nicer landlords. The houses are all situated so as to provide a good amount of privacy. On our first day we met several of the family members and found them to be gracious and cordial. The owner was kind enough to provide us with a tour of the lake in his antique and pristine mahogany Chris-Craft boat. He and his family were also kind enough to invite us to accompany them to an evening performance at Jacobs Pillow. We couldn’t imagine any nicer people to deal with. We would highly recommend the red cottage to anyone wishing to experience the Berkshires. We are lifelong New England residents who had never previously experienced the attractions and beauty of this region. This is a very special area and an extraordinary vacation house that has earned our desire to return.

The Red House is part of our 4 acre family compound on Lake Buel. Our family has owned this property since 1935. Generations of children have had their whole life defined by our Summers at the lake. This house is one of four on the property. The other three are occupied by the extended family members.

Why they chose this property

The Red House is one floor with ground level access. It is great for the elderly or families with children.

Conveniently located, one of the best views on Lake Buel. The screened in porch is wonderful. And the great room with the moose head over the fireplace is just what you want in a cottage.

What makes this property unique

Use the two ceiling fans or the room air conditioner.
